I love Propane Jane. She brings so much information to the forefront. I know that as part of the Obama coalition, we haven’t gone away. I don’t understand how Bernie can say that Obama’s mistake was not keeping the OFA going. Doesn’t he know it is still here?

Couple of things. For the entire seven years even during the election cycles with countless man hours being clocked no one in Bernie’s circle, the left cynics, had any awareness, it seemed, of the work being done. I am not surprised they don’t acknowledge that ongoing issues work now. Also I remember Chips talking about the ‘great erasure’ that she predicted and I have taken up my post among so many others to make sure that doesn’t happen. When Bernie starts taking credit for something he would not even acknowledge before while his followers still prop up his mythological purity and dismiss the President as they have for all these years, I am not missing the hypocrisy.

God BLESS this woman! I am now and more angry at Sanders for promoting this “break up the banks and all will be well” fantasy.

  14. January 30, 2016 at 4:09 pm

    from the essay:
And it is that idea of being purely symbolic that truly represents Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign. That’s what his campaign is: A symbolic wishlist of things he would like to accomplish. The problem is that when you overshoot the moon, you’re left feeling disappointed. A Bernie Sanders presidency would not accomplish anything he is currently proposing to do. Our system is based on incremental change rather than revolution.

Another Iowa caucus story that I found amusing: a couple from Illinois spends the week before the Iowa caucuses “on vacation” in Iowa seeing all the candidates they can. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/caucus/2016/01/28/illinois-couple-take-third-caucus-vacation/79388348/ – sounds like something I’d do. I actually took time out of my work day in 2008 to see Romney in the hospital where I worked. I know, I know. ๐Ÿ™„ Only 2 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes…

Why democrats do this to themselves is beyond understanding. They tried (& failed because PBO) in 2008 – but sure did it by staying home in 2010, 2014. Its like they just want the GOP in power so they can say how terrible things are.

“Its like they just want the GOP in power so they can say how terrible things are.”

99ts, I have had that very thought for awhile now. So many of my old lefty heroes lost me completely when, after PBO was elected and it was time to roll up our sleeves and get to work, the Professional Left almost immediately began complaining and criticizing. They would rather collect speaking fees, sell books and make TV appearances that do the actual work of improving the lives of the people.

    • January 30, 2016 at 8:00 pm

meta these are the type of people who gave the right wing tea party Republicans control of the House in 2010 and the Senate 2014. All the Republicans have taken control of local and state government, because people didn’t come out to vote.. If you would even consider voting for Donald Trump, something is wrong with you.

I could not believe what I read MadameSoph – but then I thought – well Bernie lost any remaining Obama voters with that publication – so sad that he has to be at the forefront of attacking the best US President for more than 50 years.

        • 57 MadameSoph
          January 30, 2016 at 7:32 pm

Any remaining Obama voters who weren’t already aware of BS’ history of calling for a primary challenge in 2012. How does BS expect to run as a Democrat while running against their (successful) leader? He’s using the party to mount a third party challenge and it’s not cool.

          • 58 99ts
            January 30, 2016 at 8:49 pm

I’ve never understood how he can run as a democrat – in my world you have to belong to the party (you can leave it after being elected – but then you won’t run for them again).

Is he likely to run 3rd party – and thus elect the GOP?

Propane Jane is a national treasure. I would prefer to get her perspective on what’s happening than anyone in the media and that includes Rachel Maddow. Although I retweeted everything she wrote, it’s not enough. I wish she had her own blog, her own column, her own radio or tv show. Vast sums of money are paid to morons like Maureen Dowd and Peggy Noonan and they spew utter tripe. Yet honest, common sense, passionate voices like Propane Jane’s would not be heard at all were it not for twitter. This is wrong.

    • January 30, 2016 at 5:41 pm

keep in mind, those other people are not paid to inform the electorate or educate people, so propane would never get a gig in our current major “news” outlets. they are paid specifically to promote republicans ideology by a handful of billionaires that now own all the major producers of “the news.” part of the big scam is to keep a few such as dowd around to act as if there is some balance, but ultimately they’ll play among with the “divide and conquer” liberals games. when looking at it with this context, the fact that none of these major “news” pundits ever lose their jobs, and in fact get promoted, decade after decade, no matter how wrong or insulting they get, then it all makes sense!

99ts wrote the other day about how Jan 25th, the current Australia Day, represents “Invasion Day” for Original/Native Australians, how painful that is, and how she would like the country to instead celebrate a date that includes all Australians.

Thanks for highlighting this Chips. It was timely to hear Stan Grant’s speech after 99ts’ comments the other day. That’s what I love about TOD. We have so many people of so many shades and so many cultures and backgrounds from all over the world. We have people who bring us news and different perspectives that we probably would not see otherwise. I’m so grateful to have found this place and grateful to you and your helper BTs like Nerdy for maintaining it every day, all day.

I don’t understand. Knowing how your ancestors have been treated, Why didn’t he marry an indigenous person? Wouldn’t one want to strengthen the blood line and keep it alive?

The parallels are so similar to the plight of the American black person. It makes me so sad.

Brava Nerdy! Thank you for highlighting this! Read her twitter feed late in the evening on the 26th and it (along with many of the responses) was amazing. Didnโ€™t catch the stuff from the 25th, so thank you Nerdy for bringing all of this here.

    Some of my favesโ€ฆ

    Thank you:
โ€œAll I’m saying is if your strategy for winning the Democratic primary is hoping you can cash in early before the POC show up, that’s a fail.โ€

โ€œSpeaking of insulting, the privilege of being able to campaign w/a Black rapper named Killer Mike as your surrogate when PBO couldn’t have.โ€

    This is me:
โ€œBelieve it or not, there are Americans who lack the privilege and cynicism required to see Obamacare as anything other than a blessing.โ€

So many of the single payer fanboys/ACA critics already have great insurance and have no idea how the ACA has saved those of us (like myself) who desperately needed it.

โ€œIโ€™m like “you and what Congress in what America?” to at least half of the shit these folk are talking about right now.โ€

โ€œSeriously, what is Bernie going to say in response to Trump demonizing Muslims, the undocumented, or “the Blacks”? Down with Goldman Sachs?โ€
