BEAUTIFUL!! Best time of the year, but for March/April or October:) Temps are in the 70’s for the most part…cool mornings, cool evenings and glorious days. Sometimes the weather makes up for all the loonies here:)
Congrats on df. Good morning Ms. Chips and all TODers.
Well, it’s look like we have about 18″ of snow so far here in Silver Spring, MD (right outside of DC). It’s still snowing and will continue all day. I may not get out until April 😦
GM. Checking in from the frozen tundra to say that everything is white–the ground, the sky, the air–and its cold and windy. We are cocooned here until the plows come through, but at least the electricity is still working and the coffee is hot. Hope other Eastern TODers have power today and if you live where the sun is shining today, enjoy!
Now that would be fun, Chips, but you’d all have to helicopter in and, oddly enough, we don’t have a landing pad. As long as the powerlines don’t go down, I’m cool.
Roberta, we’re about 95 miles west of Philly, so we get slightly different weather patterns. I’m pretty sure we’ve already surpassed 24 inches and the snow keeps falling. The good news from our daughter in the DC area is the snow wasn’t as bad as expected, so she and our little granddaughter will be able to get outside later today. For a three-year old, that’s a big deal, as you know.
Good idea, Df, but right now, stepping outside is a little tough, since the snow is piled high against all of our doors. Will have to settle for leaning out of a window.
GM Jackie…sitting here…looking out the window…watching the snowflakes fall and drift against the window…about to have my 2nd cup of coffee..public transportation shut down as of 4 am this morning…won’t restart till 4 am Sunday…i just hope that the power does not go out
A hospital in Flint, Michigan, reported Friday that low levels of Legionnaires’ disease bacteria were discovered in its water system.
The discovery came after the city switched its water supply and the medical staff noticed an increase in people coming in for treatment who were diagnosed with Legionnaires,’ McLaren Hospital said.
Legionnaires’ disease is a respiratory bacterial infection usually spread through mist that comes from a water source.
McLaren Hospital said it has taken corrective measures with its water supply.
All testing shows the hospital water supply “is well within safety and quality standards,” the hospital statement said, and no tests show McLaren was the source of Legioinnaires’ disease.
The hospital report is the latest negative news about the Flint water supply and the second piece of news about Legionnaires’ disease.
I’ve been out of the loop this week and had not heard about this. Horrific. There are no “I made a mistake” or “I’m sorry’s” that will fix this mess! It was PURPOSEFUL!
I would love to see a massive class action suit on behalf of the people of Flint against the state of Michigan and every one of those state officials who caused this obscentity. These criminals should not only go to jail, they should be made bankrupt.
Congrats on #1, DF (amk must be sluggish this evening 😉 ).
Posted this on the overnight thread (wee am hours), and saw Kat4Obama reference JO’B, so this may have been posted yesterday (apology if link to @latimes Op-Ed was posted here already).
This is EXCELLENT, Arapaho! This needs to go all over the place and be read and UNDERSTOOD by everyone! You know how Republicans always say that govt needs to be run like a business? People with a brain cell could read this and understand precisely why that statement is so wrong! Thanks for posting this. It’s a MUST READ AND PASS
I have absolute disgust and rage about this whole situation! This is what their utter incompetence does to show that govt doesn’t work, leaving the part out where THEY fucked up the govt! This is the perfect scenario to make a political ad from…connect the dots! The same can be said of stupid ass tundra twit blaming her son’s drunken rage on PBO! I guess Donna Brazille ripped her a new one the other day…calling her a liar and pointing out that Republicans wanted to cut $1.4 BILLION from the budget meant for the CARE of veterans! But somehow, in some fantasy world that Republicans live in, PBO hates vets and does nothing for them, while Republicans are saints and love vets! Could not be further from the truth! Americans need to wake the fuck up and stop pretending that Republicans of today care a damn about them. They don’t. Never will. They’ve all turned into damn Chuckie and they’re coming for us. All of us. It infuriates me!
Df, I feel your fury and I get absolutely frenzied with rage when some Democrats actually repeat the garbage spewed by Republicans and act as if PBO could have magically fixed everything without the aid of Congress. Stupidity has become America’s greatest enemy. In the whole course of US history, we’ve never had better communication or more means to access knowledge instantly, but people seem dumber than ever. I loved your “they’ve all turned into damn Chuckie and they’re coming for us.” Great image and so true. It made my day.
desertflower, I know what you mean, I was so glad to see Donna Brazille call Sarah Palin what she is a dam liar. If there is anyone who could get her son help if he had PSTD it would have been a former VP candidate, a former Governor. If truth be told Palin’s son problem might be his Mother. These Republicans who loves to send the men and women into war, but they don’t want to take care of these men and women when they come back home.
Genesee county referred to above is the county Flint is in. This article details where the spike in Genesee county occurs. Hint: it’s Flint, with more than four times the cases reported in the second highest area.
“GeNESEE COUNTY, MI – Nearly half of reported Legionnaire’s Disease cases over a 10-month span involved people who relied on Flint water as their primary water source, according to a state health report”
Pretty! Morning, Donna…so glad that you still have your power…that means EVERYTHING in a storm:) Stay cozy and read a good book:) Hugs to you and everyone…stay safe
Yay Donna! West Coast time – woke up and having trouble getting back to sleep so checked in to TOD hoping to see that you still had power. I’m here snuggling with my girl kitty! who likes to spoon under the covers with her head on th pillow like mama 🙂 Can’t complain; it will be in the 60s today.
Like DF, love winter in coastal Phoenix (aka southern CA).
We’ve had spectacular sunrises recently (clouds unfortunately obscuring the planets visible before sunrise), with no temperature extremes. Lows in 50s, highs in 60s. Heavenly.
BTW the rain that has fallen on points south and east have pretty much bypassed Ventura county 😦 .
This has me yearning for a road trip — the last El Nino I was in Death Valley over President’s Day weekend (when LA had rain in biblical proportions I was told) — absolutely spectacular, with western mountains covered with snow and sprinkles at Badwater that evaporated before it hit the ground (although some drops did fall on my windbreaker).
Hi Arapaho,
Thanks for the reminder about the planet line-up. Next time I’m up too early I’ll hopefully be able to see them. You’re in Ventura county? I wanted to move there at one time but had a work conflict and had to stay put. Looking forward to lots of green on the hillsides into the summer, if this will be anything like the last El Nino. O.k. Off to work for me (never did get back to sleep until just before it was time to get up…..grrrr 🙂 )
Morning Donna. So glad you’ve still got power. It’s my biggest worry and I kept waking up in the night to check the electric clock to see if it still worked. We are completely socked in and could not even walk out the door without the hip waders that fishermen use. I keep thinking this is a good day to do all the “snow day” projects I imagine in the summer, like straighten drawers and organize the pantry. Funny how the chores seem less appealing when there’s time to do them.
Here’s a couple of lighter notes from #Snozilla (haven’t seen MSM grousing about no electricity yet this morning, so hopefully since this event is happening over the weekend, folks with food and shelter can chill out and enjoy the beauty of snow).
Hi Everyone, sending sunshine from Barbados to those in cold areas. Thought I would share this, it brought a smile to my face. Three new potato varieties have been developed to help sub-Saharan Africa to plant potatoes year round. And you guessed it, one has been named “Obama”.
Oh, Joy, thanks for the morning cheer. As the greatness of President Obama finally sinks into the heads of American knuckleheads we’re going to see a lot of things named after our beloved president.
Storks feeding on rubbish dumps instead of migrating are more likely to survive the winter, research shows.
The bird is among a growing number of migratory species that have changed their behaviour due to human influences, says an international team.
Until recently, all white storks in Europe migrated south for the winter, but now more are flying shorter distances to snack on food on dumps.
The white stork breeds from Europe to north-west Africa and western Asia.
White storks in Europe have traditionally flown south to spend the winter in Africa but in recent decades an increasing number have stayed closer to home, drawn to the food discarded at landfill sites.
We have that problem with Canada geese. They used to migrate but now stay year round they are nuisances on golf courses, parks and other own spaces. They cover the playground at my school with goose dung if not constantly shooed away. I seem to remember adv article several years ago about some biologists capturing them and driving them back north to see if they would start migrating again. All I can say is, thanks a lot, vc !!1!1!!
I just read what my tablet decided I wanted to say after I hit the send button! How that gives you a good morning laugh. Here’s the translation: And you don’t have hundreds of children tracking it into your house. Or probably your third hinge, either, come to that.
Exactly, Don. Sometimes you just gotta look Mother Nature in the eye and say, “You beat me.” She’ll always win out in the end anyway. We are inveterate walkers, but even we know to stay indoors today.
No. Not mocking them…just a fact. That seems to be what Ed Henry was doing from Boston…I just don’t like all those clothes piled on me…I feel like I’m choking to death
Newsflash: Progressives can honestly disagree with your candidates position:
“And the response of some — only some — Sanders supporters is disappointing, although I guess predictable given that somewhat similar things happened during the 2008 primary. There will, I guess, always be some people who, having made an emotional commitment to a candidate, can’t accept the proposition that someone might share their values but honestly disagree with the candidate’s approach.
Right now I’m getting the kind of correspondence I usually get from Rush Limbaugh listeners, although this time it’s from the left — I’m a crook, I’m a Hillary crony, etc., etc.. OK, been there before — back in 2008 I was even the subject of tales about my son working for the Clintons, which was surprising because I don’t have a son.
But I’m used to this stuff. It’s a bit more shocking to see Mike Konczal — one of our most powerful advocates of financial reform, heroic critic of austerity, and a huge resource for progressives — attacked as one of Hillary’s minions and an ally of the financial industry.”
Donna, I am so done with the Bernie fantasists. He tells them magical stories about how they can achieve single payer health insurance without bankrupting the country, how the stranglehold of big business will crumble before him and how all will be right and fair in a Sanders world and they believe him. And worse yet, they tell you there is something wrong with YOU if you don’t fall into line. They refuse to acknowledge one achievement of President Obama’s because he didn’t deliver them immediate gratification of all their hopes in his first 100 days. Instead of focusing our energies on defeating Republicans, we are wasting time battling idiocy within our own party.
Jackie, Hear-Hear. 👍👌👊 IMO, Bernie’s supporters are primarily Emoprogs, Irrational-Professional-Lefties, and RW astra-turf support from Repubs/Teabaggers/Conservatives that are financed by the political arm of Koch Industries (Remember the astra-turf financial support provided to Teabaggers by Koch’s political groups in 2010).
China doesn’t get involved in international affairs unless it affects their bottom line. President Obama is trying to do the same thing with his push for the TPP, he wants to open up the Asia Pacific markets. The Asia Pacific market is like a virgin waiting for someone of open it up. Trillions and trillions of dollars are just sitting their waiting for someone to take all of it home.
preference is for the world’s largest democracy getting a bigger footprint in global affairs …. abhor how China is helping dictators (especially in Africa) economically thrive and continue to hold onto power as they oppress their people
the problem is money, which chinese have sackfuls. heck, we can’t get a permanent membership in UN security council despite the fact we are the largest democracy. It’s all about money.
This is a statement that President Obama would agree with. A government that deliberately abandons, starves, or poisons its citizens through contaminated water can no longer claim legitimacy. This isn’t government of, by or for the people. It’s tyranny.
Hahaha! Verrrry funny. But actually I had a bit of a moment while considering this earlier this morning. When I was there, the building seemed ancient. Every once in a while someone would move a file cabinet and discover an old newspaper from the thirties or earlier and we would have a hearty chuckle at the gas prices. Many of the acoustic tiles in the modern dance classroom were either missing or hanging by a thread. Our dance instructor (so old she had actually danced in Martha Graham’s troupe) always assured new students that they never fell of during class. Ancient!! As I contemplated this anniversary, I realized the building was only built 48 years before I began attending…48 years doesn’t seem like so long ago now… So it was practically new when I went there, I guess. I’m still dealing with the repercussions of this thought. It was a huge school; there were 2,000 students in my graduating class. The building was
8 1/2 stories high. It took students from all over the city and had 28 different curriculums, from Science and Arts, Performing Arts, Chem Bio, Vocational Music, to Auto/Astro/Refrigeration. It was an amazing place.
woohoo happy Saturday blizzardy day TOD! 23 inches officially of snow at my back door this a.m. How official you ask… my dog was up to his chin in it 🙂 Lovely neighbor helped us with the mounds out front.. son still out shoveling away. And it is still coming down. Woke to thunder and lightening at around 9 this morning. But we still have a roof, no fallen trees or branches and the power is still on YaY Baltimore!!
Making pancakes for the shoveling teen son.. demands payment for his sweat 🙂 Come on over and join us!
dang I forgot to put that on my grocery list..! I do still have that wee bottle of Christmas wine, however. Off to take the old snow dog for a trot – he loves this weather.
Ha, Linda, my son takes plenty of breaks- never misses those! He’s in now, ate his pancakes and will continue to chill most likely for the duration 😉 And thank you, we are well snuggled in and all things appear to have survived the weather. 🙂 🙂 yay!
people in the media & punditry, most of which is based out of NY & DC, seem to thrive in a bubble and therefore feed on each other’s gossip to convince themselves about what the rest of the country and world is thinking about some personalities and events.
it appears that Bloomberg’s potential presidential run is going to be their new toy and headlines for the next few days ….. this is perhaps the ONLY time I will thank heavens that there is an active #Blizzard2016 to divert us from all the airtime they would otherwise be taking up with “what are the implications of a Bloomberg run”;
GM!
Goooooooooooooooooooood morning DF!!!! 🙂
Good morning to my favorite blogmistress in the world:) How’s things? 🙂
Things are mighty fine, my fave-est Desert Flower on planet earth! ❤️ How are you doing young lady?
gm df – you very chirpy – must be the weekend
You know it! 🙂 Still have to work, but the weekend is the weekend and that’s good by me! How are you, 99ts?
We’re good – no snow in my world – definitely a positive
Congrats on 1st-est DF. How is your weather in AZ? My Sister is still there will be coming back home next Saturday.
BEAUTIFUL!! Best time of the year, but for March/April or October:) Temps are in the 70’s for the most part…cool mornings, cool evenings and glorious days. Sometimes the weather makes up for all the loonies here:)
“sometimes” glad you added that word
Congrats on df. Good morning Ms. Chips and all TODers.
Well, it’s look like we have about 18″ of snow so far here in Silver Spring, MD (right outside of DC). It’s still snowing and will continue all day. I may not get out until April 😦
Congratulations on first df. Have a wonderful day.
Good morning again, Desertflower! You are up fast!
Just sat down with my coffee:) Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket today…. Good morning everyone
Morning Ms Chips & TOD. Hope everyone is surviving the big snow – tis the talk of our news.
Good evening to ya 99ts, no snowmen ’round your way I take it?
Very pleased to note – we don’t do snow. I cannot even imagine driving on snow/ice – as for clearing the roof and the paths – I pass.
Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Saturday morning. Congrats DF, on being first this morning.
To all, I hope that your dazzling, elegant, and majestic character is on full display today. ❤ ❤ ❤
Thank God that President Obama is still the President of The United States of America. ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆
Mooooooooorning RanMan!!
Wow. Some video in here, too

Catches win matches & we lost – that was a close call.
Yay, we finally beat the monsters. Too little, too late, but still.
took my advice this time
Good one 🙂
Ah Jackie, I wish we could all arrive and dig you out of there!! Keep cozy!
Now that would be fun, Chips, but you’d all have to helicopter in and, oddly enough, we don’t have a landing pad. As long as the powerlines don’t go down, I’m cool.
“oddly enough, we don’t have a landing pad”
😆 I thought every home had one!!
Hahaha Chips, are you implying you have a landing pad. ROFL I got a small drone, can I land it on your pad without Danny eating it? 😂😂😂
Glad you are safe and cozy. Heard Philly is going to get 24″ snow and high winds. (((hugs))).
🙂 Step outside just once before it gets ruined by the plows and the silence is gone…Listen to the quiet
Good idea, Df, but right now, stepping outside is a little tough, since the snow is piled high against all of our doors. Will have to settle for leaning out of a window.
🙂 Ha! I remember those days! Would open the door only to find the snow piled 3/4 the way up the storm window….not so fun:)
GM Jackie…sitting here…looking out the window…watching the snowflakes fall and drift against the window…about to have my 2nd cup of coffee..public transportation shut down as of 4 am this morning…won’t restart till 4 am Sunday…i just hope that the power does not go out
Wishing power to all of you on the East Coast! Stay warm and safe.
thank you Judith…all i well so…however….i was planning to make a pot of turkey black bean chili….but alas no chili powder….ohhh nooooo 😦
These are the same stupid jokes they dragged out when Boston drowned in snow last winter. They are nothing if not predictable.

Good Morning TOD
We made it through the night and still have heat. Yippee….!!!!
Just beyond the trees is suppose to be a road. I guess we’ll find that road sometime Monday 😯
jeebus. glad you got through the night.
Must be a Boston version of “pshaw” (don’t know what it is, though 😦 ):
Pretty! Morning, Donna…so glad that you still have your power…that means EVERYTHING in a storm:) Stay cozy and read a good book:) Hugs to you and everyone…stay safe

Ooooookay, you’re of the hook — this time! 😸😸
😀 😀 If it’s any consolation I don’t like them hanging around either; luckily I don’t live close to their hangouts.
And you don’t have hundreds of children taking the stuff into third hinge! 😼
what’s ‘third hinge’?
I just read what my tablet decided I wanted to say after I hit the send button! How that gives you a good morning laugh. Here’s the translation: And you don’t have hundreds of children tracking it into your house. Or probably your third hinge, either, come to that.

THIS!!!!! 100%!!!!!
AMENNNNNNNN
G’morning Chips & TOD! Congrats df on #1! 🙂
Donna glad that you made safely it thru #Snowzilla last night. Jackie G. and the rest of TODers here on the East Coast, be safe (and WARM)!! 🙂
Good morning TOD
Diplomacy has consequences …..
Many consequences …..
In_Deed …
the chinese are already moving in for the economy pie.
Roger that, amk … and, they have a clue, for sure ….
China is moving in for the economic kill as America sits back and worries about Sharia Law.
They do zilch on international affairs and yet they are the first to reap the benefits of diplomacy.
I wonder what the leaders of India are planning to try and challenge China … is this a priority within the foreign policy professionals in India?
We have our own fp problems with pakistan, nepal, srilanka, maldives due to chinese meddling.
ok. thanks for the clarification.
preference is for the world’s largest democracy getting a bigger footprint in global affairs …. abhor how China is helping dictators (especially in Africa) economically thrive and continue to hold onto power as they oppress their people
the problem is money, which chinese have sackfuls. heck, we can’t get a permanent membership in UN security council despite the fact we are the largest democracy. It’s all about money.
Truly hope that VP Biden met with the leaders of the HDP ….
For those of you experiencing extremely cold weather, I hope you can stay warm and safe.
bbl if I get a break ….
This is a statement that President Obama would agree with. A government that deliberately abandons, starves, or poisons its citizens through contaminated water can no longer claim legitimacy. This isn’t government of, by or for the people. It’s tyranny.
Elections are now a feast for billionaires!
Good Saturday Morning TODVille!
I will ask the same question I posted at bj.
Where does he think his votes will come from? Even in newyak, he had to scrounge for votes last time around. Just for mayorship.
Inorite? But even so, isn’t it too late now?
Doesn’t he do that about every 4 years? His $ is doing some good with Everytown. He should stick to that!
Shame works.
And then there’s this…. O.o.

Michael Bloomberg considering an independent run for president now???
Off to go celebrate my high school’s 100 year anniversary! See you later!
Oh my, Maryl, were you there at the beginning? Wow!
.
.
😀 Have a great time celebrating!
23 inches!!! OMG sherijr, it’s a white out!!! Keep safe!
Yes indeedy.. it’s a lotta snow Ms Chips 🙂 but it’s purdy alright… purdy hard work. Had to make really big pancakes today 😉
🙂 After all that digging, it’s a gin and tonic that’s required!!!
dang I forgot to put that on my grocery list..! I do still have that wee bottle of Christmas wine, however. Off to take the old snow dog for a trot – he loves this weather.
wishing you safety throughout this blizzard.
please remind your son to take some regular breaks during his snow shoveling … sometimes lots of snow coming down makes you just keep working
Ha, Linda, my son takes plenty of breaks- never misses those! He’s in now, ate his pancakes and will continue to chill most likely for the duration 😉 And thank you, we are well snuggled in and all things appear to have survived the weather. 🙂 🙂 yay!
This is the only way I will fall in love and in line behind Bernie. No Bloomberg for me.
Chat away!
http://theobamadiary.com/2016/01/23/chat-away-761/
people in the media & punditry, most of which is based out of NY & DC, seem to thrive in a bubble and therefore feed on each other’s gossip to convince themselves about what the rest of the country and world is thinking about some personalities and events.
it appears that Bloomberg’s potential presidential run is going to be their new toy and headlines for the next few days ….. this is perhaps the ONLY time I will thank heavens that there is an active #Blizzard2016 to divert us from all the airtime they would otherwise be taking up with “what are the implications of a Bloomberg run”;
