may be, but bad optics. don’t know how this helps.

          January 17, 2016 at 11:05 am

Notice the President said individuals and companies, but it is a separate issue, I understand the optics might not be the best but it is a monumental step forward for Iran and the world.

            January 17, 2016 at 11:09 am

I think the sense of disappointment will be much deeper than the sense of achievement given the timing. What exactly was the urgency to do this now barely 24 hours after lifting the main sanctions? This is a bad tactical move with not much of benefit, imo.

              January 17, 2016 at 11:20 am

I wonder if it is also to curb the MIC from pursuing they bloodthirsty efforts to keep war an option on all tables in the world. By limiting these companies from using Iran surreptitiously, PBO keeps them on a tighter leash as well. Possible?? We know he does not voice anything by chance or mistake, and is very careful what he releases. Always.

              January 17, 2016 at 11:50 am

My take is that there’s always much more to these things that meet the eye. Yes, from our vantage point the “optics” may seem off. But from the vantage points of those whose knowledge and perceptions of what’s going on matter in the big picture – i’m not so sure. Remember PBO plays a long, long game. Plus he has certain insights into the situation that we are not privy to and that he may not be able to openly discuss at this very moment.

              January 17, 2016 at 11:57 am

I understand your point about optics, amk, but what isn’t an optical illusion is that 5 hostages are freed and Iran does not have a pathway to a nuclear bomb.

the second she declared i knew we were in big trouble. just a horrible, horrible candidate that has “the news” and establishment all treating her as inevitable, and she dropping to an angry, disheveled, 70-something self-decribed socialist. just astounding that we’re going through all this again. why on earth couldn’t she and her husband just go off and do nonprofit work and leave us alone?!? latest selzer poll (very respected) in iowa:

“The tightening race is not because of a surge in support for Sanders, the poll indicates. His support has risen just 1 percentage point in the past month. But Clinton has seen her support slide from 48 percent to 42 percent.”
    http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2016/01/14/iowa-poll-clinton-slides-leads-sanders-2-points/78738770/

her running kept out some others who might’ve jumped in and would be dominating right now. instead we have this mess. the clintons can’t seem to take a hint.

It is what it is…we need to work with what we have. The rest is noise and doesn’t matter. I wish for VP Biden, but that doesn’t matter now. Work with what we have…damn sight better than the poo flingers.

I’m sure at the end of the day we will vote for the Democrat, but dammint if Hillary doesn’t make it unnecessarily hard. Its like she gets off on saying dumb shit. And she knows better.

    • 54 Don
      January 17, 2016 at 11:28 am

4morefor44, I agree with everything you said, at lease Sanders and O’Malley had enough sense to let the President have his say before they made a statement. But no, Hillary just had to let it be known that more sanctions are coming for Iran, she got to let everybody know how tough she is, that one does.

    • 55 nospin
      January 17, 2016 at 12:57 pm

i believe those polls. O’Malley is my first choice at this point but I also know I would vote for Sanders over HRC any day knowing full well Sanders most likely will not accomplish anything at all as President. With not much to choose from….I believe those polls and it is the DNC’s fault.

All I could think of when he was being so clear about this….was that in the chaos of war, so much can happen and fall through the cracks, and be hidden from public view….President Obama makes transparency and accountability a cornerstone of all he does…..this batch of Republicans don’t want to be held accountable…would love nothing more than to start wars for their own agendas…the chaos covering the crimes….

I am intrigued to know more about Nosratollah Khosravi-Roodsari and his background.

      perhaps eventually he may choose to share why he decided he wanted to stay in Tehran;

in the mean time, I can only say that I wish him and his family and friends the best of lives and a chance to celebrate his release from the harsh prison

I often wonder is Hillary is overcompensating because she’s a woman….to show the men that she’s just like them…..she’s NOT just like them…and she needs to embrace that and run with it.

    • 72 Don
      January 17, 2016 at 12:13 pm

I always thought that she was just “Hawkish” by nature and not by some outside influence. Besides, President Obama isn’t “Hawkish” at all, by nature he seeks peace, but at a moment’s notice President Obama has not problem with dropping a bomb on you. Only a Sith Lord deals in absolutes.

      • 73 Judith Fardig
        January 17, 2016 at 12:18 pm

Don, now I will see John McCain, Tom Cotton, and their fellow warmongers as Sith Lords.

        • 74 Don
          January 17, 2016 at 12:25 pm

I wasn’t calling Hills a Sith Lord, I just like being able to use the word Sith Lord. Yesterday my wife and I had a disagreement about where to go for dinner and she said if we didn’t go to her favorite restaurant she wouldn’t go. So I said to her “only a Sith Lord deals in absolutes.” So I did what any married man would do, we went to her restaurant.

        January 17, 2016 at 12:19 pm

She IS totally hawkish all the time…which is why I have such angst and why she wasn’t my first choice when she ran against PBO…I ALWAYS preferred him right from the start….never had one regret about the best 2 votes I ever cast:) The rest of the votes until the day I leave this earth, will always have a caviat from now on….sadly.

I love, love, love that PBO followed the money in regard to Daesh and bombed thew shit out of their money warehouse the other day; millions if not billions, literally up in smoke. PBO is a cool operator and a total badass.

    • 79 vcprezofan2
      January 17, 2016 at 12:17 pm

Desertf, I don’t wonder at all – I’m convinced she overcompensates all the time. Truthfully, I do not see her as a woman of confidence, and IMO because she lacks confidence (yet for some reason desperately wants the WH) she blusters and blunders all the time.

      • 80 Don
        January 17, 2016 at 12:21 pm

Welp, she does have a nack for blundering. I mean how can Bernie f’ing Sanders be leading in any poll? She has a habit of using a sledge hammer when a fly swatter would be just as useful.

        • 81 vcprezofan2
          January 17, 2016 at 12:24 pm

Exactly! (But don’t encourage me, Don. I’ve been trying really hard to let her walk her path without me voicing my ‘fears’.)

      • 82 desertflower
        January 17, 2016 at 12:21 pm

We’re on the same page, vc:) That said…if she’s the Dem choice, she’s my choice. I wish that she would cut the crap and just speak from the same place that PBO speaks from….he has been a master at foreign policy, IMO

        • 83 vcprezofan2
          January 17, 2016 at 12:28 pm

‘just speak from the same place that PBO speaks from’

IMO she lacks insight/perception….and so do all her handlers. In the old playbook talking tough = being a strong leader (or so they thought). I think her handlers’ antipathy to PBO has blinded them to the fact the old playbook is faulty and should now be thrown out. Maybe they’ll wake up in time.

        • 89 Don
          January 17, 2016 at 12:32 pm

Exactly, ds, PBO gave the blueprint for how to win an election. Yes, the Clintons know how to win an election, but at times they make it so hard on themselves. Why make an enemy when you don’t have to, Hillary could have me and many more people eating out of her hand if she would just cut the bullshit out.

    • January 17, 2016 at 12:30 pm

When she blatantly lied about her Bosnia experience (and has never apologized for it), she revealed an exceptionally weak character – no different from her husband’s.

If stuck with her on 8 Nov 2016, she’ll get my vote. Prior to that she got, a week or so ago, the one piece of truly heartfelt advice I’ll ever give her.

Until it’s impossible I will HOPE that VP Biden reconsiders or that Martin out performs everyone’s current expectations.

good on you Bobfr because I can’t do it. If I have no other choice, (i.e HOPE that VP Biden reconsiders or that Martin out performs everyone’s current expectations)..then Sanders gets my vote. and that isn’t’ because of anything he has done.

      • 95 Obama Grandmama
        January 17, 2016 at 2:37 pm

I am voting for Martin first. Hope he stays in the Primary. He has supported most of what PBO has put forth for his entire two terms in office. I think he would continue on in that vein. Then I will vote for whomever the Dem candidate is.
I honestly have problems with both forerunners. Hillary, I do not trust to stay with Obama’s lead. She vacillates too much. Paying too much attention to what others think and poll numbers. I think she is too ready to jump into a war.
Bernie stays with his passion and has a vision, but to an extreme. He has not found enough people in all his years in the legislature nor convinced others to go along with him and get anything passed. He has openly said he will not follow Obama’s lead. I am afraid of him scrapping the ACA for single payer without having all the parameters in place so we actually lose the start we have made. My fears expressed.
I know it will be hard to replace our President. I just hope I do not regret who we have as our next president.
