A Day to Remember

Pete Souza: “Ever since I began photographing then Sen. Obama in 2005, I’ve tried to keep my eye on how people react to him. At the town hall in Baton Rouge, I noticed this young girl in the audience. I hope she vividly remembers this day so that someday she can tell her kids that she saw, and later shook hands with, the President of the United States when he came to town.”

    GM TODville, gotta run, BBL (haven’t had chance to catch up here yet this morning), but as TOD basks in the strategic, hard-working glory that is the Obama-Biden team, consider John Kerry’s relentless, grueling schedule as the hardest working, most effective Secretary of State in modern times.

      In 2005, Mr. Pete Souza was then a staff photographer with a Chicago paper. his paper assigned him to cover then-Senator Obama with the expectation that the photos he captures will be crucial for history one day WHEN PBO became POTUS ….. they just didn’t know it would be that soon

          I don’t know if you recall seeing photos of then-Senator Obama:

          – walking on the streets of Moscow no one even paying him any to him ;

          – visiting the nuclear disarmament locations with Senator Lugar;

          – in his tiny Senate office in the basement;

          . these are some of the photos taken by Pete

        Afternoon, Judith. Only thing I can think of at the moment is that they have no wish to be accused of inhumane treatment should things turn sour. I gather it’s very cold there so despite the thought it’d be expeditious to freeze them out, maybe some FBI leader is simply thinking ahead. People tend to feel sympathy for the underdog and letting them freeze themselves to death might just give them underdog status to many.

        Maybe

        Thank you swbluega!!! That is a spot on comment. The thing we all know about PBO is his consistency, stability, and looking long range.

        • January 16, 2016 at 12:34 pm

          We are so fortunate that there was a Barack Obama in this time in our history and that we had the sense to elect him as POTUS. He is helping us to transition from the 20th to 21st century and teaching us that the US can no longer operate as an island unto itself; that we must learn to *work with* the international community. We can no longer bully them into conceding to our wants and demands.

          Some of us understand the lessons of PBO. Others are to stubborn to want to learn or refuse to be taught anything by this black man because that would be admitting that he is smarter than they are.

          • 97 vcprezofan2
            January 16, 2016 at 12:57 pm

            I also think PBO is a more insightful AND more courageous *leader* than many of those with whom he’s working, SW. In rare moments when I pause to consider, I think he’s surrounded by so many educated colleagues that there has to be some who are as smart as he is. So asking myself what has kept them from taking principled stands on some of the issues he has been focused on, has led me to conclude that they have likely been trapped in the here and now of politics, lacking insight, AND, in addition, they lack the courage to take a stand. Because IMO if they had had any courage at all, once PBO started to shine a light on the path forward, those who did would have stepped up to stand with him…unequivocally. VP Joe did!

            • January 16, 2016 at 1:18 pm

              That’s one of the characteristics of a great leader…surrounding yourself with intelligent people, all who do not necessarily agree with everything you say. PBO has says he likes to hear all viewpoints; pro or con. Knowing this, I feel confident that PBO’s decisions are not just knee-jerk reactions but have been given some thoughtful consideration.

              Why would anyone feel safer with someone in charge whose first thought always seems to be war/bomb/etc.?

    So let me see if I’ve got this right, Iran has closed down its nuclear power plants and shipped all of its nuclear material out of the country, released its American held hostages and rejoined the global community? Oh please, next thing you’ll be telling me is that America has normalized relations with Cuba and marriage equality is the now the law of the land in the United States.

    http://winningdemocrats.com/obama-blew-up-entire-building-full-of-isis-cash-gop-is-completely-silent-video/

    In an operation that might have done more damage than bombing a building full of fighters, U.S. forces dropped bombs on a building in Mosul, Iraq that was working as a cash repository for ISIS. Intelligence showed that there were millions stored in the building, all of which are now toast.

    Two 2,000 pound bombs completely leveled the place, and this one act cut off a great deal of funding from ISIS’s war effort. The U.S. intends to focus on more financial targets in an effort to destabilize ISIS’s ability to function as a “state” and break them economically.

    Yet again, Obama proves how soft he is on terror by working to bankrupt ISIS while avoiding a ground invasion. Republicans are likely furious no Americans died.

    ======

    “First on CNN: U.S. bombs ‘millions’ in ISIS currency holdings”

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/01/11/politics/us-bombs-millions-isis-currency-supply/index.html

    ——–

    In an extremely unusual airstrike, the U.S. dropped bombs Sunday in central Mosul, Iraq, destroying a building containing huge amounts of cash ISIS was using to pay its troops and for ongoing operations, two U.S. defense officials told CNN.

    The officials could not say exactly how much money was there or in what currency, but one described it as “millions.”
