Aid could reach a besieged Syrian village as early as Sunday morning, the World Food Programme said.

A convoy will carry one month’s worth of food and medicine for the 40,000 people trapped in Madaya, a rebel-held town near the Lebanese border.

People there are reported to have been starving to death, with people eating pets and grass to survive.

A similar operation for two government-held villages in the north – Kefraya and Foah – is due on Monday.

Blockades have been a feature of Syria’s civil war but the plight of Madaya has drawn international attention, partly due to images emerging of severely malnourished residents.

Bob, thanks so, so so, much for sharing the desires of others, that we take for granted. I especially appreciate your shared tweets about the courageous Women (PK?) destroying ISIL in a significant boarder region between Turk and Syria.

However, I hope their notoriety is not filtering back to them. Because, IM Biblical “opinion”:which has been proven valid especially during GWP’s/Cheney’s Iraq; 1st Timothy: No Soldier Should Be Concern With The Affairs of The World”. The reason for that:

          > There is no nobility in communicating with you family/love ones during battle.
          >A distracted Soldier is a danger to not only himself, but to his brothers & sisters in battle.
          >The Bush/Cheney mantra has (excuse my choice of words, but it sig’s the point. I could have said, “coward”…). pussy-wooped majority of America to just blindly assign “Hero” status to everyone that serves in the military. Here is my definition/classification of a Heros:

Bob, it’s stunning to think of the mighty force that is yet to be unleashed in the world–the power of suppressed girls and women emerging into their rightful roles. The future will see these young women as leaders and it will change the way that people live and nations are governed. After millennia of male dominated culture and governance with constant wars, macho posturing and violence, it’s about damned time for a change.

      • January 9, 2016 at 9:22 am

      • January 9, 2016 at 9:03 am

I guess next Trump will be saying he spank his children when they lie, specially that grown daughter he made that comment about. And the media will have no problem with what he said and will give him 24/7 coverage.

What a misfortune for those girls to have such a father. Cruz is lower than pond scum and would justify any ugly act he committed because, in his mind, he can do no wrong. My advice to his daughters: learn never to tell your father anything.

        • 49 jackiegrumbacher
          January 9, 2016 at 9:29 am

Amk, I think these religious nuts who call themselves “Christian,” prefer the Old Testament God of swift punishment and unforgiving retribution. All the values associated with the Jesus in the New Testament–charity, love of neighbor, humility and compassion–are lost to them. I wonder if they routinely rip out and throw away the Jesus parts of the Bible

Good morning TOD. Yesterday we all heard the Sensational Jobs Numbers—exceeding expectations for December and readjusting the numbers for October and November up by another 50,000 new jobs.
New York City is also doing very well.
Unemployment rate in the city is 4.2!!!

Mayor de Blasio has signed contracts with all the unions. Something the previous mayor had failed to do. Under Bloomberg NYC workers got no new contracts and raises were few and far between.
Mayor de Blasio and Governor Cuomo have been using executive actions to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 for every group they can. Fast food workers, crossing guards, janitorial staff as well as people who work for the City or State.

Crime is down—way down—more people working, wages rose by $78 average per week in NYC this past year.

Good times and Good job. Thank you to our leaders.

    • 66 Don
      January 9, 2016 at 9:30 am

You talk about a moral buster, someone making less than $10.00 per hour going to $15.00 per hour is a big jump. I applaud the Mayor and the Governor for fighting for hourly workers. You want people to feel as though they have a stake in their community and that they are appreciated.

    • 67 jackiegrumbacher
      January 9, 2016 at 9:32 am

Thanks, Vicki. I hope the people of NYC recognize deBlazio’s achievements and give him another term as mayor. He will emerge as a future star on the American political scene.

      GM Vicki.

Love to hear great news (which of course ONLY comes from cities/states with Dem leadership, another fact that slips through the cracks of the GOP-propaganda machine known as the MSM).

From CA (and lauded by GOP state reps here):

A little comparison between KS and CA (which is in the local news here now because of the possibility that the St. Louis Rams (NFL) might return to LA, which IMHO they should never have abandoned in the first place):

and the kansans reelected their govnor brownback.

Many here in India are poor and uneducated. But they are more politically shrewd and demanding than in western democracies. There are no perpetual congress critters and state chief ministers.

      • 71 jackiegrumbacher
        January 9, 2016 at 9:57 am

Here’s a lesson that needs to be spread to every voter in the US–elect a Democratic governor like California and a Democratic legislature and you get an efficiently operated state AND a budget surplus; elect a Republican governor and a Republican legislature like Kansas and you get massive failure and budget shortfalls; elect a Democratic governor and a Republican legislature like Pennsylvania and you get gridlock.

        • 72 arapaho415
          January 9, 2016 at 10:38 am

Yes, Jackie, please spread the word among the good people in PA that you meet.

We’re partisan Dems because we *like* budget surpluses and fiscal responsibility (and also breaks our hearts to see truly needy people on the streets).

People have such short memories, but during the 2008 financial meltdown, school districts here were laying off teachers right and left. That’s why we need a rainy day fund, should the country/state elect another GOP President/Governor (shudder).

          • January 9, 2016 at 11:19 am

IN PA the GOP has control of the state legislator and is in constant battle with the DEM Gov Wolf…but we have seen in recent years many Dems who have been ensnared in the trap of greed and lack of accountability..who have been indicted and some have lost their seats…i seen some Philadelphia watchdog groups blame this on fact that in Philly…Dems out number GOP…by significant margins…they say that perhaps the decadence comes just having one party in control…i have written repeatedly to them that it is a lack of voter participation …active citizenry that is the cause of this more than anything else…

we need active citizens and better candidates…

hello…. look who we have running for the top job…Dem Hillary Clinton….and Non-Dem Bernie Sanders…

          • 74 0388jojothecat
            January 9, 2016 at 1:51 pm

Yep Gov Jerry Brown is a liberal who likes surpluses for rainy days and I believe we voted for a ‘rainy day’ fund to be at a certain level in case we get another GOP Gov who wants to cut taxes for the wealthy. Gov Brown tells our Dem legislature that the surpluses and the money is not their ‘candy’ jar to raid for whatever they want and ALL of us agree.

Vietnam has accused China of threatening regional air safety by conducting unannounced flights through its airspace to a disputed reef in the South China Sea, state media reported.

Forty-six such incidents were logged by aviation authorities in the first week of January, the reports said.

Protest letters have been sent to Beijing and the UN’s aviation body.

Vietnam is among several nations challenging China’s claims of sovereignty in the area.

China has been running test flights to an artificial island it built in the Spratly Islands, which Vietnam also claims.

The flights prompted Vietnam to complain its sovereignty had been violated.

As I mentioned before, am doing my best to play catch-up, here and see that amk himself posted the tweet I replied to him with this morning, LOL. Ah well.

The big news in SoCal yesterday was the re-capture of El Chapo — lots of reports from San Diego because they are neighbors to a nervous Tijuana.

Heard this morning on @CBSradionews that Mexico is reluctant to extradite El Chapo to the US for face-saving/embarrassment reasons.

    From last month:

Aside from @JamesFallows, have seen ZERO push-back against Marco Rubio on this on my Twitter timeline (obviously I don’t follow every person/entity in US media, but a fair sampling, I think).

I know the MSM is GOP propaganda machine, but they are also un-American, and reckless in what they don’t report.

    • 78 arapaho415
      January 9, 2016 at 9:37 am

Here’s just ONE reason US ambassador to Mexico would be useful along about now — our 3rd biggest trading partner, and a neighbor with whom we share a 2,000-mile long border.

Will MSM please wake up and at least MENTION this as they (poorly) cover what they treat as the “Presidential Sweepstakes” horserace?

I see both Hillary and Bernie campaigns are out in full force saying that there isn’t an inch of daylight between them and President Obama’s stance on guns. I guess the word is out that if you aren’t standing with President Obama then you might as well go pound sand.

    • 86 jackiegrumbacher

President Obama is a brilliant man. He boxed them into a corner and they have nowhere to go, although, to be fair, Hillary has advocated for stricter gun measures from the start of her campaign.

This weekly address is ostensibly about the auto industry, but it’s actually a review of the SOTU and something more. PBO is going back to the beginning and telling us that WE can do anything–change our lives, our country, our gun culture, our future because we have enormous power if we work together. He’s is going to come out like a force of nature this election season to show people that we ARE a great country and the possibilities for the future are limitless.

Just curious, is anyone experiencing any problems with windows 10? I recently bought a new laptop, and when I downloaded windows 10 onto my laptop it had a mind of its own. Whichever webpage I visited the webpage would change sizes all on its own, and the cursor would move on its own. I’m not sure if it’s the laptop or windows 10 that’s giving me problems.
