And she is absolutely right for tracing this transformation to Gov. Pete Wilson’s vicious attacks on Hispanic immigrants. What’s really ironic is that Pete Wilson was considered a Republican moderate when he was the Mayor of my beloved San Diego. But in order to win a second term as governor, he rode the wave of the anti-immigrants in California. The poor Republicans didn’t realize the demographic changes taking place in the state.
