President Barack Obama meets with Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Acting Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Thomas Brandon, and FBI Director James Comey to discuss what executive actions he can take to curb gun violence
That last photo of PBO is so poignant. If we had a sane Congress that actually reflected the will of the majority of the American people, every single burden would not fall on the President’s shoulders. Instead he has to get up every day acting as the only responsible entity of the federal government. Why? Because Democrats were too lazy get out and vote in 2010 and 2014.
Agree with this, jackieg….have seen this face of frustration too many times. It’s a burden that he should not have to bear alone. Citizens must do the hard work of being citizens.
Jackie – congratulations and warm thanks for saying so clearly what we all feel. Hope I can sleep tonight before hearing President Obama tomorrow. Hugs to all!
{{{{ JF ❤ }}}}} I've heard sleep is overrated. (wouldn't know personally…) 😉 Send out a heartfelt wave of loving kindness to our President, so he knows we are with him every step of this long, long way.
Today we had a guest Latino leader from Philadelphia at our Hispanic Initiative meeting and he told us that when he registers Latino voters and they don’t know which party to affiliate with he says, “Republicans are the party of Trump.” Before he finishes the sentence Latinos choose the Democratic Party.
This is so good to hear. For a long time, I’ve found recent immigrants think of the Republicans as ‘the party of Lincoln’. Honestly, it’s as if the 20th century never happened. Now we have ‘the party of Trump’ as a working title, and that will make all the difference 🙂
Please have this for those of us that will be at work w/o access, to see. I know for certain that someone here will will post this very important announcement from the President. I don’t want to miss it…even if I will be late:)
If they pick up and go home, that doesn’t mean they won’t face federal indictments and prosecution. Personally I don’t think they will. They seem to want violence.
part of the problem is that while children are being murdered…while communities are destroyed…we tiptoe around the terminology…trying not ruffle the feathers of gun owners…it get us nowhere ..i want We the People to have CONTROL over guns…..
Mr. Bloomberg is socially liberal. In favor of gender equality and marriage equality, Planned parenthood, gun control.
On the other hand Mike Bloomberg is Against raising the minimum wage, paid sick days, parental leave or anything that interferes with corporate profits. He’d like the middle class to leave Manhattan entirely. Except to take the trains into Manhattan to work, of course.
He is a Big supporter of Charter schools which are for profit and drain the money from public education.
On the plus side, Mr. Bloomberg is for stringent environmental rules.
Mike Bloomberg’s most important legacy of his time as Mayor is the dramatically cleaner air we enjoy because of the very tough fights he won to get building owners to replace their polluting heating systems with more efficient ones. His vast fortune helped to fund gorgeous parks New Yorkers get to enjoy every day.
Biggest stumble was the fool he made of himself as some great education guru. He put a businesswoman who had zero education experience in charge of the Nations largest school system. She lasted a few months. Until recently savaging Bill de Blasio and promoting the Charter School Witch Eva Moskowitz ate up millions of his $$$ with disgusting vicious ads.
Eva said she is not running for anything and the ads have blessedly stopped.
GE TOD! Want to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year too 😎 ….I start back classes next week so if anybody wants to hook me up with a late X-mas gift from Kickstarter 😕
“Next to oil, gold and an HBO Go password, “napping” might be the world’s most precious commodity. But it’s become increasingly hard to sleep anywhere outside the confines of your bed. A new inflatable hoodie hopes to change all that…..According to the sweater’s website, Hypnos redefines “the hooded sweatshirt for sleep through an engineered, patent pending pillow system.” In human terms: “it’s a sweatshirt that let’s you sleep on the toilet.” No longer will you be forced lean against that subway door, or that office desk. Tired of waiting for your Starbucks drink to arrive? Totally bored with your totally boring date? Finally, a hoodie that let’s you dream — and drool — in peace.”
It was obvious immediately after the 2014 elections that PBO was not going to go quietly. He is leaving a mark that future generations will see as a turning point in our countries history as long as the GOP doesn’t win.
People complained when he didn’t do executive orders on gays in the military. I understood their frustration but he knew that it was important that Congress act to make it a solid gain. He also knows that unless Congress acts these executive orders could be overturned, but this is life saving in a major way. I really believe he would rather this go the way of the DADT rulings, but I also believe he thinks the country has reached a ;point where the vast majority of folks will agree with what he is doing.
J-j-j-jaa-appp-pa!!! I’ve missed you and am very happy to run into you tonight, since you’ve had me wondering if all was well with you, your wife, and the offsprings.
May your 2016 be filled with good health, lots of love and great family moments!
Missed you as well, very much. (Let Chips dwell on that one.) Been extremely busy and work doesn’t allow me to get on TOD and nights and weekends have been filled. All are well.
O, and Chips is rarely around…much (at least when I’m here). 😀 😀
If *I* were the suspicious type I’d question the fact that you are both ‘least in sight’ fairly often, but I’m a trusting saint. [Now where’s that angelic smilie?]
Love this article, and the photo of PBO is just perfect! I have two little quibbles with the content, however. One, ‘It has been years since Republicans defined an issue (the ACA) ahead of the President’– and they defined it as ‘Obamacare’! The president grabbed that one right back and ran with it! And two, ‘ The President is playing Republicans one last time,’ just doesn’t seem likely. I imagine he’ll be playing them as long as he’s alive, and with his health and fortitude, that should be a very, very long time!
Foes of Obama’s executive actions on guns should take them to court
—————————-
So opponents of these new executive actions should take them to court.
It might actually be valuable if foes did try to get Obama’s executive actions on guns overturned. Here’s one reason why: The end result could be a Supreme Court ruling on the constitutionality of background checks, a topic upon which the Court has not yet ruled. And that could be “clarifying,” in the words of one expert I spoke with today, for purposes of a debate that may well continue for years.
trust sargent to play the devil hypothesizing. I am worried about short term hurdles like stay the eo’s until the issues are ‘resolved’ at their effed up court.
Nope. We had a terrorist attack 4 days ago on air force base near the pak border. Nothing is thawing.
Of course, our blundering bureaucracy and multiple agencies working on cross purposes, still haven’t made it clear if the attack is over even after 3 days.

Congrats JG. I so agree. That last photo of the President says it all. I am so disappointed in the Democrats and I dislike Republicans more every day.
Agree with this, jackieg….have seen this face of frustration too many times. It’s a burden that he should not have to bear alone. Citizens must do the hard work of being citizens.
Will be interesting to see which DEMs stand with the President on his executive actions
It will. Would be REAL nice if they found their collective “voice” …
Prettyfoot, I hope all of them but as usual some will listen to outside voices.
there is medication for that and it is covered by obamacare
HA!
smilin
Jackie – congratulations and warm thanks for saying so clearly what we all feel. Hope I can sleep tonight before hearing President Obama tomorrow. Hugs to all!
Big day ahead, Judith! Enjoy it.

Great strategy!

That’s where “name recognition” pays off. For Democrats! Yay!

And the press conference – no questions, no more discussion – and they can pick up their guns and go home
White Privilege in action
If they pick up and go home, that doesn’t mean they won’t face federal indictments and prosecution. Personally I don’t think they will. They seem to want violence.
Wow…this is the new major of Philadelphia…Jim Kenny
It should be called GUN RESPONSIBILITY MEASURES….this is NOT gun control in the sense that RWNJ’s are making it out to be!
perhaps…but lets be honest it would not matter how the President phrased it
Correct…only to those that want no change. Considering 90% of Americans AGREE with him on these points…words matter.
part of the problem is that while children are being murdered…while communities are destroyed…we tiptoe around the terminology…trying not ruffle the feathers of gun owners…it get us nowhere ..i want We the People to have CONTROL over guns…..
Damn right, and if a dealer fails to do a background check then that dealer should be held liable, same goes for gun show dealers.
Go to our President’s TL right now – he’s dropping some hot tweets about gun safety…. (I’ve just posted a couple here).
Now that last tweet is going to sting a bit.
Who the tweet stings, let them feel it!
#GOP #Congress #NRA
loveeeeeee loveeeeeee that!!!
Good.
Bloomy is no longer gloomy….
Thanks to Mike Bloomberg for funding this public safety campaign.
Thanks for posting.
I still think that this Republican Mike Bloomberg is a secret conservative Democrat.
Good Evening TODVille!

Thanks for this Bloomberg review, Vicki. It was very helpful.
Every time PBO sends out a tweet, a bunch of “dad” or “daddy” responses. Wtf?!?!? It’s too funny. 🙂

Thanks, Nerdy, for posting the pictures and video from today’s meeting. I shared this on Facebook. I hope you have a very happy and healthy New Year.
Q – can supreme court butt its ugly head in on these eo’s?

I still consider ….
…. the most potent and enforceable approach to the epidemic.
Am pleased, no matter what, that President Obama is making gun control a major issue this election year.
Nope. We had a terrorist attack 4 days ago on air force base near the pak border. Nothing is thawing.
Of course, our blundering bureaucracy and multiple agencies working on cross purposes, still haven’t made it clear if the attack is over even after 3 days.
It sounded a bit unlikely, but wasn’t sure!
I saw this over at DU. I laughed til cried. YallQaeda is begging for snacks and socks. http://reverbpress.com/news/us/oregons-domestic-terrorists-send-desperate-plea-for-snacks-response-from-muslims-hilarious/
