OK New year in Sydney – probably somewhere on the intertubes – 1 hour later in my part of the world.

I really think the fireworks have had their day – 7 shipping crates full brought into Sydney

Morning all. Woke up to “President in Car Getting Coffee” and can’t stop smiling. Everyone brace for impact because this is the day when your inbox is flooded with ‘end of year’ fundraising pleas. Keep deleting and enjoy the last of another year of TOD goodness.

    Good Morning TOD Family!

Chips, I want to thank you for creating this space for us to come together to discuss politics and the world we live in. To tell you the truth I don’t know what I did online before I stumbled across ‘The Obama Diary,’ I am very fortunate to be a part of this wonderful community.

To all, I hope you have a wonderful day of contemplation and reflection about your 2015; such that it inspires you to look with great anticipation in the New Year to do great things in 2016. ❤ ❤ ❤

Thank God that President Obama is still the President of The United States of America. ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆

Now, I’m not trying to be a jerk, but 2016 will not be recognized until it is a second past midnight in New York. I understand that there are different time zones in the world, but it does not matter, 2016 officially begins a second past midnight in New York. Thank you.

    • December 31, 2015 at 8:41 am

Hey Don, that’s like saying, no day begins until your Birthday. Time is Time. Time doesn’t begin in NY, it begins at that moment of creation. Great Britain didn’t believe in no other time but GMT.

Two distinct viewpoints on time divide many prominent philosophers. One view is that time is part of the fundamental structure of the universe, a dimension in which events occur in sequence. Sir Isaac Newton subscribed to this realist view, and hence it is sometimes referred to as Newtonian time. An opposing view is that time does not refer to any kind of actually existing dimension that events and objects “move through”, nor to any entity that “flows”, but that it is instead an intellectual concept (together with space and number) that enables humans to sequence and compare events. This second view, in the tradition of Gottfried Leibniz and Immanuel Kant, holds that space and time “do not exist in and of themselves, but, are the product of the way we represent things”, because we can know objects only as they appear to us. Now with that being said, my friend, each person’s existence is a part of the timeless universe. Life has a beginning and an end, the universe is timeless. As hurl ourselves though time and space let us not forget that times flows through all of us. Therefore your point is wrong, I have proven what I said was correct. Thank you.

And I was just listening to a pundit say “Australia is the best country in the world” – the world revolves around Sydney time. 🙂

Everyone loves their own place. I often think that all the refugees from the middle east really want – is a safe and welcoming place that they can call home & they would so love it to be the place of their birth.

Meta, I’m embarrassed to say that the older I get, the harder it is for me to stay awake until midnight. Last year, I barely had one eye open when the new year arrived and couldn’t wait to call it a day. My youthful self would be ashamed of this version of me.

      • December 31, 2015 at 9:06 am

I hear you! There’s a fireworks show here at midnight so the noise and the light will keep me going.

President Barack Obama’s bid to assert himself in his final year will begin with long-awaited executive actions on gun control which are expected to be released next week, shortly after he returns to Washington.

The White House is putting finishing touches on several measures in an effort to make progress on curbing gun violence, an issue the president and close aides have found frustratingly intractable, before the race to replace him enters prime time.

According to gun industry insiders and others familiar with the proposals, the changes include requiring an expanded number of small-scale gun sellers to be licensed—and therefore conduct background checks—whenever selling a weapon. This wouldn’t close the so-called gun show loophole, though it has the potential to narrow it.

The administration is also expected to impose tighter rules for reporting guns that get lost or stolen on their way to a buyer.

Thanks, AMK. This will have people on the right screaming and hurling vile insults at our president. It will also very cannily take up air/media space that would otherwise be dedicated to incessant bile from the R candidates. I wouldn’t be surprised if PBO has a big controversial action coming in each month up to the election, so that he literally ‘drowns’ out the trump/Cruz/Rubio insanity.

    • December 31, 2015 at 10:01 am

My hope is that this does not end up in court…as was his executive actions around Immigration Reform..

More reason to make sure that a DEM is in the White House…executive actions can be withdrawn by the next administration…

The National Museum of African American History and Culture will open its doors in Washington, DC, in 2016, after years of planning, fundraising and political wrangling.

Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis tells the BBC that it is significant that the museum will be located on the National Mall, or “America’s front porch”, as it will sit near such other landmarks as the Lincoln Memorial, Congress and the White House.

The Museum will feature artefacts and exhibitions that explore the African American experience from “slavery to the present”.
