    Martin Shkreli has resigned as chief executive of Turing Pharmaceuticals following his arrest on Thursday.

    Ron Tilles will become interim chief executive after Mr Shkreli was accused of securities fraud in relation to a drug company and a hedge fund he managed.

    Mr Shkreli, 32, was accused of running a Ponzi scheme at his former company.

    Turing and Mr Shkreli became infamous in the US for raising the price of an HIV drug by 5,000% earlier this year.

    His arrest was unrelated to this price rise.

    US prosecutors said on Thursday that “Shkreli engaged in multiple schemes to ensnare investors through a web of lies and deceit”.

    The FBI has accused Mr Shkreli of running a Ponzi scheme, in which assets from his former company, Retrophin, were illegally used to pay off debts at MSMB, the hedge fund he managed.

    The US Securities and Exchange Commission also charged him with defrauding investors in MSMB to conceal poor investment choices.

    The SEC also accused Mr Shkreli of taking money from the hedge fund to use for personal expenses.

    Mr Shkreli denied the charges in court and was released on bail of $5m.

    Out on a bail? already?

    my only comments about the voter data base fiasco:

    if there are any breaches or backdoors in the Dem voter data base which can be exploited, then it is best that these can be found now and hopefully fixed;

    as the campaigns and supporters of each of these two candidates go back and forth accusing, counter-accusing, insulting, suing etc each other, I suspect that the gop is listening closely and scheming of ways to exploit this gap in infrastructure;

    in case people here are unaware or have forgotten, there have been actual events in the past where gop jammed the dem phones, data or made attempts to make it unavailable at the critical time (e.g. GOTV drives just before and on election day).

    some gop operatives have even gone to prison over this so you can expect them to try this again;

    that is why when PBO was running his campaign, his ICT team had to “attack” their own data base till it was nonfunctional and then tried to build it up again to see how long they would need to rebuild and to test for any shortcomings. they did this multiple times until they were satisfied that it would withstand external attacks;

    so my advise to Dems, fix whatever is exploitable now

      Global, I feel certain that whatever President Obama did to ensure the integrity of his databases, he has imparted to Hillary Clinton. I have no doubt that he believes Hillary will be the nominee and I’m certain he’s given her pointers. That said, electoral databases are by their nature deeply flawed because people are always moving and changing. I’ve never worked with any political database that was kept adequately up to date and that includes the data we worked with during the Obama campaigns.

    Syria war: UN Security Council unanimously backs peace plan.

    The UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a resolution outlining a peace process in Syria.

    The 15-member council reached rare agreement on the issue in a session in New York on Friday.

    The resolution endorses talks between the Syrian government and opposition in early January, as well as a ceasefire.

    The Syrian war, which is heading towards its fifth year, has killed more than 250,000 people and displaced millions more, the UN says.

    However, disagreements remain over the future of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

    The US, UK and France called for his departure, saying he had lost the ability to lead the country.

    Russia and China, however, argued against a requirement for Mr Assad to leave power as a precondition for talks. The resolution itself makes no mention of his future role.

    Good Read

    And while the resistance may be symptomatic of death throes, a rage at the dying of the white male light, it nonetheless presents a very real threat — there is the possibility that the old and angry may triumph over the new and different. Those who are furious are not without power to effect change that lasts generations: Imagine Ted Cruz or Donald Trump or Marco Rubio in office with a Republican Congress and Supreme Court seats to fill. Voting: restricted. Immigration: halted. Abortion: banned. Equal pay: unprotected. Same-sex marriage: overturned.

      Pf, they will only triumph if the rest of us cede the battle and don’t come out to vote. If, in the end, we show ourselves too lazy or indifferent to fight for our future or our democracy then we the loss of our freedom will be on us. We can’t let that happen.

    Typical. Media have been blasting during the day that schools in one district in Virginia were shut down because of a “Muslim-related ‘statement of faith’ calligraphy homework assignment.” No, the district shut down the schools because of the THREATS it was getting.

    Why are people sick to death of the media? ^^^ Exhibit 12,000,000,000.

  20. December 18, 2015 at 9:50 pm

    Lord this is hard. 1, 5 and 10. I chose 10 because the second I saw it, I could hear him saying to Bear last night how much he believes in science and to see those little girls in the WH receiving recognition at the Science Fair…….well, that was powerful for me. Had he not talked about that last night, I wouldn’t have chosen that one. I know it won’t win, but anyway……….

  21. December 18, 2015 at 9:55 pm

    When it comes to specifics about how he’ll do that, Trump very rarely provides any. That’s because he is speaking to a feeling his supporters have that neither they nor their country are dominant any more. In their minds, everything is a zero sum game viewed through the lens of win/lose, either/or, us/them, friends/enemies.

    From that perspective, something that is accomplished via partnership with the other nations of the world – like the Iran nuclear deal or the Paris climate agreement – feels like a loss. Similarly, a political party that is a coalition of people from different races, genders, religions, sexual orientations, etc., is a threat.

    This makes sense to me. makes me feel better. So I’m sharing it.

    Brains of older people slow because they know so much. People do not decline mentally with age, it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains, scientists believe; much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full, so, too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full. Researcher say this slowing down process is not the same as cognitive decline. The human brain works slower in old age, said Dr. Michael Ramscar, but only because we have stored more information over time. The brains of older people do not get weak. On the contrary, they simple know more. Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is Not a memory problem, it is nature’s way of making older people do more exercise. So There. Now when I reach for word or a name, I won’t excuse my self by saying ” I’m having a senior moment ” Now, I’ll say ” My disk is full.” I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can’t remember their names. So please forward this to your friends, they may be my friends, too.

    Businesses at two shopping centers in Delaware County were evacuated because of bomb threats Friday night, police said.

    The evacuations were ordered in Upper Chichester after 9 p.m. at the Larkins Corner Shopping Center and the Willowbrook Shopping Center.

    A Philadelphia police helicopter was called in to check reports that someone with a box had climbed on the rooftops of several building, but no one was located. A bomb-sniffing dog was called to check a suspicious package in a Walmart store. The package was cleared. – Robert Moran
