Some interesting detail here. Like everyone else, Bear Grylls walked away with a lot of respect and admiration for PBO.

I’m not sure if they’re going to air it again. On my TV on-screen search results, I only see it being aired once for the next 14 days. Do you have a DVR so that you can record it?

Meta I found these last few paragraphs very moving…almost brought me to tears…And as jojo said, let this be a shining example to some of the “haters” out there. We need more programs like this, and fewer hate speech shows on cable TV news.

// “It’s one of the most special moments of my life,” Mr. Grylls said. “I wanted to put my hand on his shoulder and say a bit of a prayer, to pray for protection over his family and for forgiveness when you get things wrong.”

The show is broadcast around the world, making its message about the urgency of climate change particularly well timed after nearly 200 nations reached a landmark accord last week that will commit them to lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

“What he’s doing on climate is incredible,” Mr. Grylls said. “He’s protecting the planet. I’m proud to stand beside him or behind him, and feel proud to champion that.” //

meta, this really touched me…”After Mr. Grylls grilled the gnawed salmon for Mr. Obama, the president cooked s’mores for both of them. They talked about fatherhood and even prayed together. Mr. Grylls is an evangelical Christian.

“It’s one of the most special moments of my life,” Mr. Grylls said. “I wanted to put my hand on his shoulder and say a bit of a prayer, to pray for protection over his family and for forgiveness when you get things wrong.”

Good morning TOD! (I’m on West Coast time 🙂 )

I’ve been loving playing today’s Google Doodle! You arrange the pages of his sheet music for him after he slips on horse doodoo and drops them. I don’t read music, but you can play each tune until you figure out what order to put the notes in by sight. It kind of teaches you how to sight read.

After you have completed all three pieces if music, the orchestra plays “Ode to Joy”, which I am dedicating to 57 and Nickelby today!

      • December 17, 2015 at 5:05 pm

I’ve always thought he would be the right man at the right time. President Obama has been an EXTRAORDINARY president, himself the right man at the right time. But his kind of very intellectual demeanor, his sophisticated and nuanced leadership has more difficulty to connect with a certain segment of the population. And, sadly, the fact that he is a black man has made so many americans reluctant to support him.

The more populist style of Joe Biden would make wonders at this time where THE CONSTANT PEDDLING OF FEAR AND HYSTERIA has created a climate where a good segment of the population isn’t able to think straight and respond to reason; they just want, consciously or unconsciously, a daddy figure in the Oval Office. And a man who wears his emotions on his sleeve.

So sad that circumstances prevented VP Biden from running.

P.S. In this climate and with the potential of “Clinton fatigue”, I think Hillary will be able to make it to the Oval only if Trump goes independent. There I said it.

Big News Week for USA/Cuba relations:
      1) USA/Cuba agreeing to direct mail air service—previously mail went through third country
      2) 110 RT flights per day!!!
      3) 17 more detainees on their way out of Cuba
      4) Rumors that the GOP anti-ending embargo campaign is easing up.
All good steps towards normalizing relations.

Neo-cons and their arrogant nation building My Way or The Highway routines have lost in Cuba.

It was literally freezing cold last night here in sunny SoCal. And I am using the word literal in its literal, not emphatic, sense! 32 degrees farenheit last night. Planning on getting an extra electric heater today; hope they’re not sold out.

    • 40 arapaho415
      December 17, 2015 at 5:20 pm

      GA Madame Soph.

Lifelong Southern Californian — freezing weather inland not uncommon here.

East of San Diego, our pipes would periodically freeze overnight, and a few years ago had a devil of a time getting into my car (parked in driveway) because of overnight rain, then below freezing — car covered with a solid sheet of ice, which I’ve never seen before (about 9-10 miles from Pacific).

38F at daybreak this morning. Conservative by nature and don’t like turning on either heater or A/C, grateful for ski pants and down vests/jackets.

      • 41 MadameSoph
        December 17, 2015 at 9:44 pm

Yeah, being near the foothills I am not a stranger to occasional freezing temps, but I usually expect those in late Jan/Feb. In fact, one of the coolest things about SoCal in the winter is seeing snow capped mountains in the background with Palm Trees in the foreground 🙂 I grew up near the beach and I remember once or twice being able to make a snowball in the early a.m. and Mom letting me keep it in the freezer because I didn’t want to lose it 🙂

I guess it just feels early for the coldness this year. I’m frugal with the a/c and heat myself (put two comforters on the bed last night 🙂 )

        • 42 arapaho415
          December 17, 2015 at 10:08 pm

You’re right that it’s early for freezing temps, but this year has mostly been HOT.

Summer arrived a couple of months early (remember those days of 100F heat in April!?!) and lasted too long (still hot last month).

I’ve read that the LA area and San Diego/Orange County have gotten some rain, but it has mostly bypassed my neck of the woods, unfortunately. There’s been sprinkles for a short duration, but no real rain. 😦

Said to DF awhile ago that I feel like it’s becoming coastal Phoenix here — the hillsides are even browner than last year, and even the chaparral that is evolved to withstand drought looks like its dying, which is a scary thought — our native vegetation would succumb to climate change, replaced by desert vegetation. 😦

Praying that El Nino gets here soon…

P.S. Am bummed that I’m missing PBO on Bear Grylls (since I gave up TV/cable last year). LOVED Alaska when I was there, hiked up to the Harding Ice Field which feeds Exit Glacier and a couple of other trails in the Seward area — all spectacular, with miles of alpine wildflowers, just gorgeous. There’s a similar profusion of alpine wildflowers in California’ El Dorado National Forest (southwest of Lake Tahoe) in mid-July, but the elevation is 10K or so — for me, much easier to breathe on the Seward hikes (elevation only 3K-4K).

They ashamed of being called a LIBERAL.
They are easily spooked and they will easily deny their friends when there is a spec of trouble. They believe every thing reported by the US News Media…….while claiming to be the Smart Party with Compassion. They will argue for both sides, then drop their side and adopt the other Party’s in order to Get Along? They have become Jack of all trades, master of none………where and when dealing with the GOPers, US News Media and Emoprogs.
The DNC and the it’s Apparatus has become Stagnant, Old, Useless and mostly, enablers for the GOPers.

Ignored by most pundits is the fact that the petroleum industry has nowhere to go but down.

My greatest wish is that the GOP/MSM would wake up and realize they have an obligation to help the US transition to this reality. Instead of mindlessly blocking legislation in support of and ranting about “climate initiatives,” they should support the re-education and hiring of those workers (not the bloated companies) currently employed by Big Oil by the jobs that are opening up in the renewable energy sector.

I believe that the timing of these debates are to benefit the front runner Hillary Clinton…they are to protect her back flank…to prevent another 2008 surprise….to not allow any of the other candidates from gaining any kind of traction….

they will rely on name recognition on the ballot…….

for the DEMS…there does not seem to be much ground organization taking place… what are they doing with the database from the President’s previous campaign…

Today @Acosta (Jim Acosta, CNN) asked whether the Obama Administration’s strategy is to zero out the number of prisoners at Gitmo, thereby making Congressional approval of the facility closing a moot point.

The GOP and their supporters have no idea what a black mark this facility is against the US, how inhumane it is to lock up people for decades (!) without ever charging these people with a crime.
