“Norman was a white man from Australia, a country that had strict apartheid laws, almost as strict as South Africa. There was tension and protests in the streets of Australia following heavy restrictions on non-white immigration and discriminatory laws against aboriginal people, some of which consisted of forced adoptions of native children to white families.”
Shocking to see how Peter Norman was shunned, unemployable and Olympic feat recognized only after his death 9 years ago. ๐ฆ
The reason you hear little about it – most of the native population was killed in the 19th century. Most of the rest were living on stations run by the churches – who raised them to be the servants of white people & indeed “stole” their children – referred to now as the “stolen generation”. We had a “white Australia Policy” for immigration until c. 1972.
We have now introduced horrific laws to stop refugees getting to our borders and to deport people with dual citizenship (if they are deemed “undesirable”) regardless of how long they have lived in Australia. There are many US style right wingers in the land down under.
Morning, Df. I’m so disgusted, angered, ashamed of what this country has become. We’re entering a truly dangerous period when one of the two major political parties has chosen to openly push bigotry and our so-called media has decided to help them do it.
Oh, Jovie….never mind about polls…they mean nothing and I feel like they can be manipulated to say/mean anything you want them to…Morning to you!! Patriots??? Yuk!
Here are my answer to the poll question. What’s a poll? Is that the things which had Barack Obama losing to Hillary Clinton in 2008 and 2012 tied or losing to Mitt Romney.
I’m convinced the media only has 2 types of stories, concern trolling and wishful thinking. Polling, in this case, falls under wishful thinking. They wish ANY GOP toolbag was ahead of Hillary or even bernie for that matter, LOL.
Some polls would be concern trolling, like 70% of americans think Obama isn’t doing enough with ISIS, “what do you think he should do Chuck Todd??”
I’m planning to ignore every single poll till at least after the next democrat is sworn into the oval office.
It’s a very good interview and also noteworthy that Olivier Knox was very respectful: no interruptions and no gotcha BS, just straightforward journalism.
Depends on the circumstances and logistics in regards to schedule and parents. 5th grade? Also depends on their maturity…if you are at work or they have after school functions (sports/homework club…whatever) you need to be able to get in touch or they with you. I would block certain things on there if I could and have it be very limited in what they can do with it. So many of my 5th graders have cell phones..they just can’t have them on or out during school…and they abide by that rule. You know your situation better than any of us…if them having a cell would give you peace of mind, do it:)
I know this is petty, but Cruz is simply nauseating to look at and listen to. Back in the day, I had a strong visceral reaction to Richard Nixon, but Cruz makes Nixon look like a matinee idol.
Personality comes through in facial expressions – Cruz looks a sleaze – nothing petty about seeing a person for what they are. The “ugliest” person by beauty queen standards can look beautiful when the light shines through their happiest moments.
Marco Rubio Holds Fundraiser At Hitler Art Collector’s Home — On Yom Kippur
Marco Rubio had a fundraiser on Wednesday night at Texas billionaire Harlan Crow’s house. This wouldn’t necessarily be news, but for the fact that Harlan Crow is one of the biggest Hillary Clinton haters on the planet and he funds all manner of nasty right-wing enterprises routinely.
The Anatomy of Donald Trumpโs South Carolina Supporters: Fed Up And Fearful
Dec 14, 2015, 7:17 AM ET
Meet John Wood.
He lives in Aiken, South Carolina, and says Americans should be scared about who is coming into the country. So that’s why heโs for voting for Donald Trump.
“I know I’m afraid,” said Wood, who was laid off from his construction job in 2011 and has since settled into retirement. “We need to know who these people are, and I donโt think they should be able to just come into this country illegally and shoot up people.”
In a series of interviews conducted at Trump’s town hall last weekend in South Carolina, many supporters of the billionaire real estate mogul expressed outright fear — and others a general unease — about the security of the United States.
this is the outcome of citizens being fed a steady diet of fear …and racism…think how different it would be if politicians appealed to the best that we could be instead of appealing to the worse
Obamacare Foe Marco Rubio Insured Under Affordable Care Act
Updated: DEC 12 2015
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio boasts of being the only Republican presidential candidate to have dealt a blow to Obamacare โ but he’s also insured under the law.
Rubio’s campaign confirmed to NBC News that the GOP presidential candidate and his family remain insured under the law, through the D.C. exchange. He first signed up in 2013, at which point spokeswoman Brooke Sammon told the Tampa Bay Times that Rubio “spent time looking at all the options and decided to enroll through the D.C. exchange for coverage for him and his family.”
He’s not alone โ Sen. Rand Paul signed up for health insurance under the law in 2013, as did all of congressional leadership at the time. Sen. Ted Cruz received insurance at the time from his wife’s employer, Goldman Sachs, and now has private insurance.
But at some point, this “party of personal responsibility” really needs to look at themselves and realize that it was the embrace of post-policy obstruction based on fear mongering that brought them to this place. They are the ones who tilled the soil that wound up producing candidates like Trump and Cruz by abandoning any effort to develop a platform that addressed the issues we face in favor of stirring up the nativism of their base.
at some points…the DEMS will have to start organizing their own base…to get out the vote in 2016…or are they waiting for the President to do the organizing after the nominee has been decided..
American Jewish servicemen fighting Nazi troops during World War II faced even greater dangers than their non-Jewish comrades. If they fell into enemy hands, Germany didnโt treat them as ordinary POWs with the attendant rights demanded by the Geneva Conventions. Instead, Jewish prisoners were handled the way Germans handled all Jews: they were dispatched to death or slave labor camps, with little chance of survival. The American Army even advised its Jewish troops to destroy their dog tags and other identifying documents if captured by Nazi forces.
The group of over a thousand American soldiers were captured in late 1944 and early 1945 in the Battle of the Bulge and transported to the Stalag IXA POW camp near Ziegenhain, Germany. One of their first orders was to separate out the Jewish troops and present them to their German captors.
The German camp commander, Major Siegmann, delivered the order in English to the ranking American serviceman in the camp. This was Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds, a stocky 24-year-old from Knoxville Tennessee. Remembered by his fellow troops from basic training as a gentle, unassuming soldier, Sgt. Edmonds might have seemed an unlikely candidate for the heroism he was about to display.
According to his son, Rev. Chris Edmonds, who has spent years speaking with witnesses and piecing together what happened that day on January 27, 1945, instead of ordering Jewish troops front and center, Sgt. Edmonds turned to his men and said, โWe are not doing that, we are all falling out.โ more> > > > >

GE 99ts, missed seeing you here recently (with your recent move and my being hopelessly behind at TOD).

Can somebody explain to me why Hillary is losing to both Carson and Rubio nationally?
Please don’t tell me that they both are pulling votes simply bc of who they are?
That’s just insane.
Good morning.

Df, I am tired of his posts that too often reflect Dems, including PBO, in a negative light.
