        Morning, global. I hope this climate agreement does not require approval by Congress because we will end up looking like first class idiots on the world stage.

          I hope so too. I heard that one of things the negotiators from other nations understood is that all effort would be made to ensure that US congressional approval is not needed;

          that challenge influenced not only the parameters of the deal but also the legal name it was to be given

            Oh, that’s great news, Global. People around the world are on to the stupidity of the US Congress. It seems all of them, as well as all of us, have to work around those dysfunctional buffoons in the US Capitol.

              Pathetic, isn’t it?! They may have some control over how we contribute financially to poor countries, however. haven’t read the details yet, but this is a BFD!

    I am so excited for the deals of this climate agreement!!! I feel as if the world is united in this common goal to save and preserve our home. Whether you think that none of this is man made (foolish of you, but whatever!) you MUST acknowledge that our planet’s climate is changing very quickly in ways that are harmful to humans and living things on this planet…. this IS happening and we need to address these changes on a global scale with a promise and “buy in” from the world community. The fact that we came together as a PLANET, gives me hope:) This is my good news beginning for the day:)

      That is the good news for the day and it’s the best. It shows what we can do when ALL of us work together, no matter what the political and religious differences. Would that that message would take hold in this country.

    I read that if Republican party bigwigs are plotting a way to derail DT…then that is just gonna be a bridge too far for Carson. He’ll quit the GOP over that! The overt racism, the misogynist mouthpieces, the immigrant bashing, the lies in general were just fine, I guess. This Trump plotting…no can do!

    sports story here…philadelphia 76ers have been consistently setting records as the worst team in n.b.a. history for several years now. have had the same coach during this time, and now just gave that coach a new long contract. the coach is a white male and the articles i’ve seen, and fans in the comments, are mostly praising this and making excuses for the guy, and no doubt many of those same people go on and on about how things should be “merit-based” and rail against affirmative action and such. can you imagine this happening if all things were the same except for the coach being a black male?!?

      Good for Martin O’Malley. His words, however, will never be widely broadcast because our media cares only about promoting hatred, divisiveness and fear. We will get thousands of hours of the Loudmouth and his counterparts in the Republican presidential lineup, but the voices of anyone on the Democratic side will always be systematically and deliberately suppressed.

        Framing those two together…..”San Bernardino does not define Islam” “Charleston does not define Christianity” is important. People need to see that what has been done to Islam by the press and politicians, is the same thing that can be done to Christianity. This needs to be talked about and burn into people’s hearts and minds.

      Our responsibility to history is immense,” Fabius told thousands of officials, including President Francois Hollande and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, in the main hall of the conference venue on the outskirts of Paris.

      “If we were to fail, how could we rebuild this hope?” he asked. “Our children would not understand or forgive us.”

    I know this doesn’t have anything to do with what we’re talking about. But last night I purchased tickets for my son and I to go see ‘Star Wars,’ when I clicked the buy button I felt a sense of accomplishment. I rushed down stairs to share the news with my son and he looks up from his ipad with those lovely brown eyes of his and innocently asked me “so tell me again what’s star wars about?”

      great news related to the attempt to close GITMO!

      but sometimes, I wish it was legal for the scumbags in congress to be kept in the dark until process is completed -=> because on this issue, most have lost any form of rationality

        Actually, globalcitizenlinda, I think what you suggest is what is happening. I wouldn’t be shocked if in the next few months we hear a big plan that will be a fait accompli for what POTUS wants to happen with Guantanamo.

          I keep thinking that one day we will wake up and the breaking news will be – “last prisoner is out of GITMO and notorious prison will be closed”;

          I appreciate all the effort that is being done on this issue and thank the dedication of PBO and his team

    hope people here remember that a few years ago in Copenhagen, then Chinese leader tried to form an alternative climate-pressure group of countries (then the term most frequently used was the BRICS);

    reports at the time said that the Chinese leader & the leaders of these nations lied that they had left Copenhagen but instead sneaked off into a separate location to hold their own meeting;

    I remember the photos of the leaders of the western countries talking to PBO and deciding that they should let the “secret meeting” know that they are aware of the counter plans;

    I recall how many times I watched the video of PBO trying to get into the room to confront the “secret meeting”;

    as we celebrate the draft of the Climate Change deal presented in Paris today, we should also contemplate how far we have come and how big a feat it is to bring all these hundreds of countries to a place where they speak with one voice

      If I remember correctly Hillary Clinton was SOS at the time, PBO had come to Copenhagen to get a deal down. The Chinese had told Hillary that they wouldn’t meet the American delegation. When PBO found out about it he told Hillary to follow him and they walked into the supposedly “secret meeting.”

    • December 12, 2015 at 10:31 am

      Thanks for that reminder GCL. I remember being so upset, angry and proud at the same time when that happened. Our man of steel is the best president this country has ever seen.

        me and my fellow “silly” friends also laughed at the contrast between the physical size of the Chinese guards pushing back on the door when compared to the size of the US Secret Service agents and the majority of the American team

    I am also very grateful to SoS Kerry that after a huge achievement, he doesn’t stand around praising his role in bringing it about – he doesn’t grandstand and say I, me, …. etc;

    instead he praises the efforts of the team that participated, gives credit to PBO and his team and then quietly moves on to the next pressing global challenge;

    that to me is a sign of huge personal humility and exceptional political maturity;
