Schools in Beijing are to close and outdoor construction to stop after the Chinese capital issued its first “red alert” over smog levels.

The red alert is the highest possible, and has not been used in the city before, the state-run Xinhua news agency says.

Authorities expect more than three consecutive days of severe smog.

Cars with odd and even number plates will be banned from driving on alternate days.

Current pollution levels in Beijing are actually lower than last week’s, but the red alert has been placed because of levels expected over the coming days.

welcome to the ‘new’ world, china.

President Obama pretty much said what I thought he would say last night, nothing more nothing less. Enjoy this Christmas, it might be our last one without war.

President Obama doesn’t officially leave office until a new president is sworn in in January, 2017. He won’t start a war on his watch and I honestly don’t think Hillary will either. If there’s a Republican president then a war is going to be the least of our problems because the US as we know it will start to rapidly self destruct.

Good morning, TOD! Still up to my a$$ in alligators — the mind is willing; the body drag a$$ing… pray for me!

Love our President! Appreciate that he has the patience to time and time again, explain and re-explain his policy positions in a thoughtful, adult manner. Hopefully, with each speech, one or two toddlers will catch a clue…

I wish, when mentioning terrorism, he had cited Charleston, Colorado Springs, etc, along with Ft Hood, Chattanooga, and San Bernardino; I also wish, as it is the admin’s policy position, that he’d not call it ISIL. However, he is President, I’m not; I trust that he gave the address that he felt folks needed to hear… Love our President!

Germany has registered 964,574 new asylum-seekers in the first 11 months of the year, putting it on course for more than a million in 2015.

The number of migrants arriving has not slowed despite the winter cold, with a record high of 206,101 in November.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in August that the country expected 800,000 asylum-seekers over the year.

Documents leaked in October suggested the government was privately anticipating the arrival of up to 1.5m.

Germany has registered more asylum-seekers than any other nation in Europe, although at about 1% of its population, less per capita than several smaller nations.

Registered asylum seekers are not always accepted however, and rates of success vary from country to country. Fewer than 10% of applicants last year in Hungary – which has one of the highest shares of asylum-seekers in Europe – resulted in a positive decision.

The rate in Germany was 42%, while in Sweden – which registered the highest number of applications per capita – it was 77%. Across the EU, the success rate about 45%.

They shot that boy down like a dog, as he lay on the ground you could see plumes of smoke rising from the ground as the office kept shooting. I don’t know how we keep our sanity when our young people are being killed by those in authority. Yes, we die by gang violence and other crimes by our own hands for one reason or another. I respect the police; I have the upmost respect for the police. A guy that I went to high school with back in Miami Florida is a detective on “The first 48.” I have family members that are police officers. My aunt was a detective for over twenty years in Atlanta Georgia. I know what police have to deal with on a daily basis, but our humanity must be valued.

I got a coworker that I friended on Facebook which turned out to be the biggest mistake of my tortured life. The guy is a Republican which says it all, I want to be able to work with him peacefully, but I also want to tell him he’s a dumb ass of the highest order. How can I tactfully tell him he’s a goddamn idiot and remain friends?

Vow not to discuss politics because you value life.

        December 7, 2015 at 9:56 am

Every time I see this guying walking somewhere in the institution he wants to talk politics. This guy drains the life out of me, even at fucking lunch when I see him at the cafeteria he has this shit eating grin on his face. His very existence tortures me.

        • December 7, 2015 at 10:08 am

How about just saying that in the interest of peaceful and professional co-existence, you’d prefer not to discuss politics, which tends to become too heated and inflammatory when people don’t see eye to eye.

        • December 7, 2015 at 10:12 am

Don, do you want to remain friends with this person? If the answer is yes then sit down and have a heart to heart talk with him, like if were are to remain friends it’s best we don’t discuss politics. If not then tell him this, ” you stupid crazy a$$ MF don’t say another word to me”. Have a good day!!!!!!
