Nerdy, thanks for great selection of tweets. Once again I come to TOD for peace and calm. Today was bad enough with Trumps mouth, and then the MSM complaining that President Obama did not tuck them into bed and reassure them there are no monsters under the bed. Where have they been since 911? Then to top it off, my 70th birthday is this week, a milestone many don’t have the pleasure of reaching, received BD card from the younger of SO’s daughters. I have written the oldest off as lost cause, giving the younger a chance as her behavior has not been as ugly. In the card she wrote, “Trying to learn new jokes, I liked this one” and of course included it. Instantly wrote her off, a racist joke, I am not amused, showed it to SO, he could tell I was angry even tho I kept my cool in front of him. Frankly I don’t care if ever I visit these people ever again. Thanks for being here and listening.

If the school doesn’t act immediately with severe consequences to the attackers, they’re condoning bigotry and violence. This doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It’s ginned up by the reckless media, political candidates and the belief by bullies that they can get away with anything.

I worry about my three beautiful Saudi girls every day. I know they are okay on the campus, but I don’t know how safe they are other places. Two of them didn’t come to class today. I hope they are all right. The third girl has not missed a class this semester, she has worked so hard and I am so proud of her. She is flying home ALONE from OKC to Riyadh December 18. She will fly from here to Dallas and in Dallas catch a Qatari airlines plane and fly to Qatar then home. She has never flown alone before, and of all times, I will be praying for her when she flies. She is a dear, and it terrifies me to think that something might happen to her. What a world she is living in.

Caroline, it’s a sad, sad world we live in when we have to fear that a young Muslim woman can’t take a trip without being abused and targeted. If this country were to really see itself in a mirror or the way others see us, we would be truly horrified at our collective ugliness.

i’ve been saying for months donald chump is doing this campaign just to build his brand back up after a few years of it waning. he’s probably been surprised how far it’s gone already, so he’ll be ramping up the crazy talk as a way to get out of the race and say something “the news” can latch onto to force him out. the media will play along en masse when the time is right for all parties involved, and trump will exit since he says something too over the line.

i bet he thought some of the previous crazy talk and behavior would be enough, but “the news” owners weren’t ready yet for him to leave, but maybe now they’ve calculated that they’d better get the actual chosen contenders in the spotlight, so seems word went out to “the news people” to now all of a sudden care about chump’s outrageous talk. donnie will be happy to leave with his mission accomplished, and now a household name again. a book will soon follow and likely some other t.v. show.

i have not watched MSNBC for a while..but i did yesterday…the constant barrage of propaganda is overwhelming….after my mom watched a CNN program she was thinking about buying a gun…my mother who has never had a gun in her life…i did my best to talk her off the cliff…the airways are seriously raping up FEAR and anti Muslim sentiment…no wonder after the President made his appeal in a calm rational way…he told WE THE PEOPLE just what he was doing..as always he told it to us straight…but instead of the news media rallying around our President……they went into overdrive with their criticism…because despite what the media says…the President words means something to WE THE PEOPLE…

which news outlet has ‘gone after’ donald the dreck exactly? your trust on the news people is misplaced.

      • December 7, 2015 at 9:32 pm

just seeing the various tweets linked here with people such as mark halperdick and dick cheney and others all of sudden caring about crazy talk, which never bothered them before today, and which they themselves practice regularly. “close the borders to muslims” is suddenly a bridge too far for murderous muslim-hating republicans?!? i don’t think so…there’s a calculation behind this sudden (fake) concern.

        • 74 amk for obama

and their minuscule concern trolling amounts to dreck bashing how? the fucking media built him and his birtherism platform which has gone now full xenophobic annihilation. no way the fifth columnist newstainers will pull him down.

          • December 7, 2015 at 9:49 pm

bill kristol often says worse stuff than donnie said today, yet he’s going after him:

i just think word went out that it is time to get the pre-approved candidates back to the forefront. donnie served his purpose and he got what he wanted too (everyone talking about him). win-win in the insane land of the modern republican.

              • December 7, 2015 at 10:01 pm

i think we’re talking past each other. i’m citing them to show that even amongst the always wrong and always crazy group (kristol, cheney, etc), they now, all of a sudden, care about the rights of immigrants and muslims. they don’t care about these groups. they are just signaling to chump it’s time.

i agree with you amk….proof…MSNBC broadcast live TRUMP’S speech without interruptions…and then the rest of the programming for the night was related to his speech…and of course they had on all kinds of pundits second guessing the President’s strategy

Unfortunately, 4more, there are no acceptable alternatives to Trump. They are all like him–full of hate and bigotry, oblivious to human needs, and utterly ignorant of the world and its complexity.

      • December 7, 2015 at 10:06 pm

i agree. i do think the major power players in the media and republican party want jeb first, and could live with rubio, but they like having carson and chump to push the discourse farther to the right in the meantime. it’s all a big dance, and they all know what game they’re playing.

An American fugitive, who officials say is suspected of recruiting impressionable young men for terrorist groups including ISIS and was linked to at least one domestic terror attack in the U.S., has turned himself in to authorities, the State Department announced today.

Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan, known online as “Miski,” surrendered to the government of Somalia early last month, a State Department spokesperson told reporters. Hassan has been wanted by the FBI since he left the U.S. in 2009 for allegedly providing “material support” to the al Qaeda-linked terrorist group al-Shabab in Somalia, often purportedly by convincing young American recruits to join. U.S. officials accuse Hassan of since moving on to recruiting for the Syria-based terror group ISIS.

Over the weekend ABC News reported that investigators were trying to determine if the couple who killed 14 people in San Bernardino last week had any online connection with Hassan in the months before he turned himself in.

Presidential candidates and hawkish members of Congress are stepping up their cries for more robust military action against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant — but Pentagon leaders and government terrorism advisers caution that a reckless escalation of the war could help the group recruit disaffected Muslims around the world.

The quandary has heightened since last week’s deadly shootings in San Bernardino, Calif., which called attention to the danger posed by ISIL sympathizers who become self-radicalized to commit violence in the West. It’s one reason that the U.S. and its allies held back from bombing the Islamic State’s headquarters in the Syrian city of Raqqa, and why President Barack Obama warned on Sunday night that military overreach could lead to ISIL “using our presence to draw new recruits.”

“If you’re killing 1,000 a month in strikes and they’re replacing them at 2,000 a month, that’s not good math,” Army Brig. Gen. Michael Kurilla, the deputy director of special operations and counter-terrorism on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center in October.

“There are inherently conflicting considerations here,” said Paul Pillar, who retired in 2005 as the top U.S. government intelligence analyst for the Near East and South Asia and is now a senior fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Security Studies. “Some form of military actions plays right into ISIL’s hands. That has to be balanced with whatever positive happens from military force.”

Investigators with the FBI today questioned Enrique Marquez Jr., the man who originally purchased the two “assault-style” rifles used in last week’s San Bernardino shooting in which 14 people were killed, according to law enforcement officials briefed on the probe.

Authorities have been trying to talk to Marquez, 24, since the weapons were first traced to him, but could not until today because he was being evaluated for an unspecified health care issue, the officials said.

Marquez, who used to live next door to San Bernardino shooter Syed Rizwan Farook in Riverside, California, purchased the guns back in late 2011 and 2012, officials said previously, but it is not known if he played any role in Wednesday’s massacre. FBI Director James Comey said Friday that the gun buyer, who was not publicly identified at the time, was not then considered a suspect in the attack.

If there were any doubts before, it is clear that Donald Trump is not just a vanity presidential candidate. His goal is to create an American fascist movement with him as the leader, setting aside all constitutional law and protections in the favor of his pursuit of power. This policy announcement today applies to all Muslims, not just immigrants, but also American citizens returning from abroad, including American military, all to be banned from entry to the U.S. Effectively all business travel and personal contact with some 1 billion human beings with whom we share this planet will be cut off and those already in this country are to be isolated, potentially rounded up and interned, deported, killed, or whatever Trump has in mind.

Morning everyone:) Seems that I missed Anna’s birthday yesterday…Happy Belated Birthday, Anna!!

And now, some facts for breakfast.

The START Global Terrorism Database spans from 1970 through 2012 (and will be updated from year-to-year), and – as of this writing – includes 104,000 terrorist incidents. As such, it is the most comprehensive open-source database open to the public.

We counted up the number of terrorist attacks carried out by Muslims. We excluded attacks by groups which are obviously not Muslims, such as the Ku Klux Klan, Medellin Drug Cartel, Irish Republican Army, Anti-Castro Group, Mormon extremists, Vietnamese Organization to Exterminate Communists and Restore the Nation, Jewish Defense League, May 19 Communist Order, Chicano Liberation Front, Jewish Armed Resistance, American Indian Movement, Gay Liberation Front, Aryan Nation, Jewish Action Movement, National Front for the Liberation of Cuba, or Fourth Reich Skinheads.

We counted attacks by Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Black American Moslems, or anyone who even remotely sounded Muslim … for example anyone from Palestine, Lebanon or any other Arab or Muslim country, or any name including anything sounding remotely Arabic or Indonesian (like “Al” anything or “Jamaat” anything).

If we weren’t sure what the person’s affiliation was, we looked up the name of the group to determine whether it could in any way be connected to Muslims.

Based on our review of the approximately 2,400 terrorist attacks on U.S. soil contained within the START database, we determined that approximately 60 were carried out by Muslims.

In other words, approximately 2.5% of all terrorist attacks on U.S. soil between 1970 and 2012 were carried out by Muslims.* This is a tiny proportion of all attacks.

No one terrifies me more than Trump and those that think his ideas are just fine. No one.
