“This is not conventional warfare … these are killers with fantasies of glory … ” (I’ll read the full transcript of this presser, later. The President’s being profound and making sense, as usual.)

Sure we can send 100,000 troops over there to take out ISIS, but how long will our troops have to remain there, five years, ten, twenty, thirty, forever. It is time for the countries over there to step up to the plate, and stop depending on America to solve every problem.

PBO is absolutely right in this. The local communities need to want to be rid of ISIS!!!!. Only then will outside assistance be helpful. The Kurds and now the Yazidis areas are being progressively cleared of ISIS. I think the Sunni areas of Iraq are tending towards ridding themselves of ISIS too. Not sure about large areas of Syria controlled by alqaeda and free syrians. Areas controlled by Assad are certainly anti ISIS. I think first solve for ISIS then see how to get the rest of Syria to agree to some stable and peaceable governance formula.

I just watched his statement and answers to the first two questions. He is so clear and instructive….obviously the press don’t even listen. He stressed several times that this is not a conventional war….ISIL is NOT a state, they are a group of disaffected people willing to die. The area on the ground ISIL controls HAS shrunk…..we are slowly, and consistently containing them. Like BWD said in her tweet….had he been president in 2001, we would not be facing ISIL now. I keep thinking of how the French were right that we shouldn’t go into Iraq, and they are now bearing the consequences of that disaster. GWB and Cheney have so much to answer for!!!

I had to stop listening. They keep asking the same question which he has answered. They are also lying when they preface their statements with Americans are so concerned, afraid, etc. No one that I see spends anytime worrying about ISIL or are in fear of an immediate attack. Furthermore, PBO is not the president of the world!! All countries have their intelligence networks and strategies to deal with terrorists acts, why are they acting as if all of this is our problem France was attacked, they lost 132 people from home grown terrorists, they should pose their questions to Hollande. I hate these bastards.

PS. I love how PBO said “If they want to pop off.”

PBO is a giant dealing with annoying flies. He is so much better than I am. By now I would have told them to fuck off and go somewhere and stay there until they grow up and learn how to do their jobs.

Just ask Christiane Amanpour who says her “military strategist” sources know a lot more than President Obama about the “non-containment” of the terrorists. As President Obama said, more or less, if anyone has the particular strategy that would be the be all and end all, have them talk to him. It doesn’t exist. It’s a different ballgame than having one country go after another country or countries.

    • November 16, 2015 at 10:48 am

PBO took on GOP and their and maidens in the the media who are promoting that we should admit only Christians: that is not who we are, PBO says…we do not have a litmus test for religion…

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what a LEADER looks and sounds like. Not afraid to say or speak the truth ~ and stand by it, with facts and intellect. Regarding the call not to allow Muslim refugees in the U.S., he also reminded RWNJs that our country ” … does not have a religious test and we are a nation of many faiths … ”

Prayerful thoughts going out on his behalf, as he wings his way to Manila. Good trip, Mr. President!

I totally missed the incredible ending, even though I was watching until near the end. Can you give us a summary?

        • November 16, 2015 at 11:54 am

wow…i do not have the incredible gift like NW,….but here i go

he was responding to a question from a reporter…i did not hear the question…. he spoke of how that the majority of the victims of ISIL are Muslims…but that ISIL was not practicing Islam and how leaders who equate the two do a disservice and help to strengthen ISIL’s recruitment…but that Muslim leader have a responsibility to push back against the ideology of extremism…then he went on to tackle the issue that some people want to turn their backs on the refugees…he said that we have a moral obligation to help the least among us…he also too on on the RW who are advocating that we only accept Christian Refugees….he said that American does not have a litmus test for religion…that was not who we are…and that it was shameful..

there was plenty of emotion in his voice…yes he did

The President was brilliant and precise this morning—as usual.
What I heard him mean, not say, was that asking the same dumb question 100 times will not get you dumbasses the answer you are looking for.
Unless you have a specific helpful strategy to suggest, you might as well STFU.
Also, idiots in the GOP saying we should only admit Christian refugees are entirely mistaken about the country we all live in. These RW morons should also STFU.
President Obama is clearly out of fucks to give and I imagine he will be increasingly dismissive with jackals asking the same question over and over.

If just American troops to fight DAESH we are creating more folks who will need VA services which the GOP says is too expensive. Jon Stewart asked PBO why do we keep creating injured soldiers with more wars? GWB and the GOP created the fallout of ISIL by starting the war in Iraq and the Iraqi government disenfranchising the Sunni population by trying to get even instead of getting along. All countries need to learn when you disenfranchise a group of people they will fight back…France, Germany, England, America etc., should know better but never learn.

  28. November 16, 2015 at 11:12 am

Let’s get the troops ready to go get rid of ISIS, and when the troops start getting kill the same media who is talking about troops going over there, will be talking about U.S. Troops being kill. What’s wrong with the strategy. Is it time to bring them home?

  29. November 16, 2015 at 11:20 am

Christiane Amanpour is panicking… Wow she’s usually more circumspect.

Brace yourselves folks… President Obama is going to take a hit in poll numbers… He is calm and resolute while the whole world is in total panic. They want “daddy” to protect them IMMEDIATELY.

This is one instance where the particularly calm temperament of President Obama doesn’t help him politically. If he was into bluster and into “fist on the table” imagery that would satisfy the pundits more. Even if he pursued the same strategy. It’s all about image and emotion. Because the vast, vast majority of people are not able to think straight when they’re afraid. As opposed to him. I listen to the president and he makes so much sense, but he is so much more rational and patient and realistic, he has a much larger understanding of the problem. His talking rationally doesnt “satisfy” pundits EMOTIONNALLY.

The President is going to get hit after hit after hit in the media. That concerns me.

I listen to the pundits, the Beltway… WHAT DO THEY WANT ? They want an immediate resolution. They want “daddy” to destroy all danger. They want the USA to destroy ISIS, they want the USA to WIN against terrorists but THEY DON’T OFFER ANY REALISTIC SOLUTION.

Do they want total war in Syria ? Are they prepared to send THEIR OWN CHILDREN on the ground ?
