During election year(s), Iowans get so spoiled with all the candidates roaming our state. Fortunately, not too many GOP venture here to Johnson County. Anyhoo – tomorrow afternoon, Hillary will be holding a town hall meeting in our town, at the park only 3 blocks from our house. I have to work, but Mr. Muscatinegal has nothing better to do and it’s going to be 71 (in November, in Iowa!) – so he’s going to check it out. I told him to watch for “famous” TV journalists, etc. I fondly remember back in late December 2007, Senator Obama had a rally at the junior high school 2 blocks from our house – so we went over and got to experience pre-POTUS BO. That was fabulous. I wish BO could run again…

Iran nuclear deal: Centrifuge decommissioning ‘begins’

Iran has begun to decommission uranium enrichment centrifuges in order to fulfil the nuclear deal struck with six world powers in July, its nuclear chief has announced during a visit to Japan.

Ali Akbar Salehi said initial work to reduce the number of centrifuges had started, but would take some time.

Iran insists that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful.

This is, in a way, the genius of the Black Lives Matter movement, and what sets it apart from previous movements with worthy causes, like Occupy Wall Street: its pragmatism and political savvy.
This movement doesn’t try to overthrow faulty systems as much as seek systemic reform. It’s not a black nationalist organization as much as it is a civil rights and equal justice organization. Its path to the elimination of oppression is the healing of the system, not the hobbling of it.

Indeed, the movement’s policy platform, which it calls Campaign Zero, is a 10-point plan to make policing and the criminal justice system more fair to all citizens.

In other words, we cannot address our girls’ education crisis until we address the broader cultural beliefs and practices that can help cause and perpetuate this crisis. And that is precisely the message I intend to deliver this week when I travel to the Middle East…I’ll be urging countries around the world to both make new investments in girls’ education and challenge laws and practices that silence, demean, and brutalize women—from female genital mutilation and cutting, to forced child marriage, to laws that allow marital rape and disadvantage women in the workplace.

Pf, our FLOTUS is taking on one tough assignment. She’s confronting places where the ingrained misogyny has been the cultural norm for so long that the resistance to change will be intense. I so admire her bravery.

      • November 2, 2015 at 3:34 pm

i know…BRAVO for the Courage and Conviction of our FLOTUS….i wonder what the so-called Feminists have to say about this…they are so critical of FLOTUS…but not too many have taken on this challenge….this is indeed a heavy lift…

But while these investments are absolutely necessary to solve our girls’ education problem, they are simply not sufficient. Scholarships, bathrooms, and safe transportation will only go so far if societies still view menstruation as shameful and shun menstruating girls. Or if they fail to punish rapists and reject survivors of rape as “damaged goods.” Or if they provide few opportunities for women to join the workforce and support their families, so that it’s simply not financially viable for parents struggling with poverty to send their daughters to school.

Anonymous Begins Publishing Ku Klux Klan Member Details Online
    By David Gilbert @daithaigilbert d.gilbert@ibtimes.com on November 02 2015 7:02 AM EST

UPDATE: 11:50 p.m. EDT — Following the publication of email addresses and phone numbers reportedly belonging to members of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) another post on text-sharing site Pastebin is claiming to name nine politicians who are members of the KKK. The list of four senators and five city mayors is completely unverified and the official Operation KKK Twitter account has distanced itself from the listing saying: “We won’t release names without due diligence. We discourage the circulation of disinformation and will not promote an unverifiable list of politicians.” However the original tweet has since been deleted by the group.

The listing names the politicians, their spouses and the local chapter of the KKK to which they are purported to belong. The person who posted the information said they redacted the politicians’s home addresses to prevent anyone taking action directly against them.

Poor Chris Christie, can’t sit in the owners suits at footballs games anymore, and is at the bottom of any poll past, present, and future. The only thing this guy has to wait for is to see if he gets indicted or not.

Every so often here at TOD……someone posts a Link where some Bloke from the 2015 Presidential Primary Race is compared to then Sen Obama or Pres Obama in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
    Please Pay them Zero attention.
The US and World Economy crumbled in 2007/2008……..Yet Sen Obama broke Records in small donors.
In 2015………………….just last week……a poll came out Illustrating Factually that in every Demographics, Americans say emphatically that they are Better Off Today than they were in 2009.
So Bernie, Ben, etc can’t claim Record number of Small Donors when the Economic Climate in 2007/2008 and in 2015 are incomparable.

Jury Awards Ex-Employee Of Roscoe’s Chicken N’ Waffles $1.6M In Race Discrimination Suit
    September 9, 2015 11:28 PM

NGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A jury has awarded a former employee of Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles more than $1 million in damages after he sued the popular restaurant chain alleging racial discrimination and wrongful termination.

Daniel Beasley, a black man, filed a racial discrimination and wrongful-termination suit against the soul food chain that’s popular with celebrities, including Snoop Dogg and Larry King.

“It’s owned by an African American owner, but he gives full authority to the Hispanics to run it,” Beasley said.

According to Beasley’s lawsuit, managers at the restaurant on Pico Boulevard harassed him for being black and gave preferential treatment to Latino employees, including better schedules.

The grandfather from Compton says he complained to human resources and the company’s owner, but nothing was done.

He was later fired for what he says was retaliation.

It’s a sad truth about the makeup of the employees in a lot of our black restaurants. When it happened to our local Louisiana Creole restaurant, Harold & Bells, I thought the restaurant had been sold and nobody informed us black folks in the community.

There’s a RC&W in Pasadena and the last time I went there with my mom three years ago the people greeting us, seating us, in the kitchen, and bussing tables were Hispanic. The waitresses were AA but it was dirty even after the Sunday busy time. The quality of the food was not that great in my opinion. I have no desire to ever go back there again although I know it made it’s name as a AA owned soul food restaurant now who knows what it is today. I am sad to hear this but if they lose their appeal I can see this as the demise of this restaurant.
