UK Firms Agree to ‘Name Blind’ Hiring to Cut Discrimination
    By THE ASSOCIATED PRESSOCT. 25, 2015, 8:03 P.M. E.D.T.

ONDON β€” Britain’s civil service and several major companies have agreed to recruit university graduates and apprentices without knowing the applicants’ names in an effort to eliminate bias against people from ethnic minorities.

Prime Minister David Cameron said last month it was “disgraceful” that people with “white-sounding” names were twice as likely as others to be shortlisted for jobs.

Cameron’s office said Monday that firms including bank HSBC, accountants Deloitte, broadcaster the BBC and the state-run National Health Service had signed up to the “name blind” recruitment plan, in which employers do not know applicants’ names when they are selecting them for interviews.

    Jim Gilmore: Unclear.
George Pataki: Supports keeping Roe v. Wade; would presumably support rape and incest exceptions, though I was unable to find any references to him addressing them specifically.

Maybe I’m not the only one that feels a bit nervous about the budget deal, until I see that photo of PBO walking down the street, smiling, enjoying this beautiful day– yes, all is well! As long as he’s the president, I have hope.

    • October 26, 2015 at 4:56 pm

That’s the thing about President Obama. I trust him implicitly. I never have to worry about him lying or doing shady deals or not having our nation’s best interest at heart. It’s been a great privilege to enjoy this man so thoroughly.

Good day TOD! Love the pics of POTUS out for a stroll on a gorgeous day. I am also intrigued by a deal for both the debt ceiling and budget for the remainder of PBO’s term. With the economies of so many other countries slowing, the markets would be adversely impacted in a major way by any further Republican shenigans. But the big test will be whether Boehner/Ryan can come up with 30 R votes. Last week Boehner did not think he had them. Hopefully enough will do it for Ryan. And it would be great if PBO could focus on his priorities without being under constant threat from the Rs. I am not going to freak out about supposed cuts to SS and Medicare without seeing the deal. Our President has a track record of getting what he wants. So perhaps the start of a good week!

    Daley speaks the truth:

Once McCain put Palin on the ticket, Republican β€œgrown-ups,” who presumably knew better, had to bite their tongues. But after the election, when they were free to speak their minds, they either remained quiet or abetted the dumbing-down of the party. They stood by as Donald Trump and others noisily pushed claims that Obama was born in Kenya. And they gladly rode the tea party tiger to sweeping victories in 2010 and 2014.

Now that tiger is devouring the GOP establishment. Party elders had hoped new presidential debate rules would give them greater control. But they are watching helplessly as Trump leads the pack and House Republicans engage in fratricide.

Hey Donna, this is so true. All of the ugliness associated with that campaign is seared into my mind. When I see this country singer advertising for wounded warriors, I picture him standing on the stage with Palin among all of the ugliness. Not saying that he is like her, but he endorsed her.

      • October 26, 2015 at 5:48 pm

Excuse my ignorance but please tell me which country singer. I’m a member of wounded warriors and believe me I’ll bring it to the attention of those needed. If they ignore my concerns, it’s on. . I’ll move heaven and earth to blacklist the bastard. Who is he/she? I really wanna know.

What’s up with this male teacher just watching this assault taking place. I’d like to know his story. The police escalated the incident, why were they called anyway? If she were that disruptive, talking over the teacher, etc., that is still no way to treat a student.

Apparently the child was being disruptive in class. Back in my day they called your parents and or suspended/expelled you for things like this. Nowadays they call the police. The world has gone mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m olddddddd – in my day the threw you out of the classroom & did little else. When you got home (skeered) all the punishment came from the parents. Even today, it is extremely rare for police to be called to a school – usually relates to physical attacks with a weapon (knives – not guns)

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is the agency that has school resource officers at Spring Valley High. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott tells News19 that a disruptive student refused to leave after a teacher asked her to. An administrator was called to the room, and also asked the student to leave, Lott said, and she refused again. Finally, the school resource officer came to the room. Lott said the officer forcibly removed the student and she resisted arrest.

Lott said the child was put under arrest.

News19 reached out to Richland School District Two. Superintendent Dr. Libby Roof said that the district was “deeply concerned” about the incident, and will not tolerate any actions that jeopardize the safety of students.

Roof also said that pending the results of an investigation with the sheriff’s department, the district has directed that the officer not return to any school in the district.

I needed to know what could possibly be the explanation that this child is being treated this way…

Horrifying beyond words. I have no words left. I am ashamed. This country should be ashamed. Americans lack the courage to admit that we have these heinous acts (and much worse) in our past and so cannot bring themselves to admit that they are still happening. People go to absurd length to justify these crimes. EVERY COUNTRY has things like this in their past, and the ones who can move on and improve are the ones who ADMIT it.

      Aaw come on, you guys….

Be a bit fair to the cop……

You know how dangerous those black teenagers can be with their “Hulk/Demon” (TM) powers and magical “super-negro powers”(TM) (TM).

I mean,, this cop was just lucky she wasn’t wearing a swimsuit and sass-mouthing him…..

Then he’d have had to do something drastic and take out the big guns even….
      ….or maybe even literal guns.

I think we should all just breathe a huge sigh of relief and be grateful that the cop made it out alive.

*For the sarcasm-challenged among us, I’m obviously being sarcastic….
