I would choose “B” Mr. President – “Study a new language” but not just study it, I would want them to be able to speak it fluently. We are the only industrialized nation where the majority of its citizens can only speak their native language and some of them don’t do that very well. 😦

When you travel to Europe and other countries most all of the kids are taught to speak a second language fluently by the time they are 10 years old. We are so behind the curve on so many things but yet we call ourselves exceptional.

Before I heard the following Fact I thought he was creepy. Especially his voice. He has strange beliefs. Now I think I know where this is coming from. In the last hour I heard he was a Seventh Day Adventist. I’m not Worldly but I’ve met several. They used to stop all the time when I was out in the yard! When it was time to campaign though they did like me encouraging them to register and #VOTE. They do not believe in it. Just to be sure it was just local I looked the Church on Google. It’s there, plain as Day.
Someone should ask him about Easter.

      • October 26, 2015 at 2:32 pm

Yes, I know there is no religious test for office but if he believes government has no place in society his ideas on Social Security, etc make sense to him.

The Clinton Campaign announced the launch of its “Hillary for New York Leadership Council”– a group of over 100 elected officials, community, coalition and grassroots leaders who will help build a grassroots-driven volunteer team that will help Hillary to win the New York Primary on April 19.

    *******************************************

I hope this is heavily weighted with grass roots community people….these type of coalitions sound good on paper…but it can be a struggle for them grow…esp if the community folks feel that they are just there for window dressing…esp if these coalitions are only about self empowerment…

still it is a good start…i hope we see this in more states and that there is a focus on registering new voters…

    • October 26, 2015 at 12:08 pm

this might be the footprint i was looking for from the OBAMA organizers in Hillary campaign…the elected officials on the committee may be a hindrance…

      • October 26, 2015 at 12:29 pm

Note that it is “Hillary FOR…” — seems top down. PBO’s was “(State) or (Grassroots coalition) for OBAMA” — had a more organic, inclusive vibe…

GM Alycee, thanks for stating what I was feeling, but couldn’t stop to put into words. Hillary’s is all about Hillary whereas Barack began with a Grassroots coalition. The words reach out to it’s intended target, make no mistake.

        • October 26, 2015 at 12:48 pm

WE have got to stop this…

Hillary is not PBO….we cannot afford to do this….if they form a committee here in PA….i hope to do what i can to motivate folks to vote…to engage them in their democracy

The message that the candidate presents is what will bring people out. If the message (wording) is geared to a certain segment of society, then they will be the ones who receive the message or “call to action”.

I will respond if I see that the message includes me. I will speak out when I feel and see that the message DOES NOT include me.

            Simple as that.

            • October 26, 2015 at 1:10 pm

Folks will have to do what they do…

My message is that it is important to be engaged and to motivate others to be engaged…and we can motivate folks better with HOPE and Inspiration than with doom and gloom…

We agree PF – on engagement & motivation. We need a candidate who has sincerity and is credible with good character to inspire us and give up HOPE for our Future.

Who will that candidate be? I’m watching and waiting…

What happens is the choice is a flawed candidate?

                  • 58 GGail
                    October 26, 2015 at 1:34 pm

Good Character is an important ingredient that is needed if we are to move America Forward

We need to pay close attention to each candidate’s character traits and choose the one with the least damaging flaws who strives to improve in character. Which is what I hope we all strive to do in our daily lives. I sure do try.

So I went to the old dictionary to look up character trait examples. Here’s what I found:

Character traits are all the aspects of a person’s behavior and attitudes that make up that person’s personality. Everyone has character traits, both good and bad. Even characters in books have character traits. Character traits are often shown with descriptive adjectives, like patient, unfaithful, or jealous.
The old expression that actions speak louder than words is very true when it comes to character traits. You learn about who people are and what their character traits are by watching how they interact with the world and paying attention to how they treat you and interact with you.

                    Good traits:
                    Religious
                    Honest
                    Loyal
                    Devoted
                    Loving
                    Kind
                    Sincere
                    Devoted
                    Ambitious
                    Satisfied
                    Happy
                    Faithful
                    Patient
                    Determined
                    Persistent

                    Bad traits:
                    Dishonest
                    Disloyal
                    Unkind
                    Mean
                    Rude
                    Disrespectful
                    Impatient
                    Greedy
                    Angry
                    Pessimistic
                    Repugnant
                    Cruel
                    Unmerciful
                    Wicked
                    Obnoxious
                    Malicious
                    Grumpy
                    Quarrelsome
                    Caustic
                    Selfish
                    Unforgiving

Some character traits can be consciously developed, learned or acquired. For example, character traits that you may consciously choose to learn or adopt include:

                    Educated
                    Informed

you leave me this as if i do see this …but i must deal with the reality of what is…that i will have the choice of voting for a flawed candidate…and i believe that the stakes are too high for me to only vote for a perfect candidate …
everyone will be faced with that decision…

                  • October 26, 2015 at 2:12 pm

That’s unfortunately part of the calculus of what the DNC has done and it may well be a tough sell to get people into the game. Doesn’t mean it can’t or won’t happen, but we’re still pretty early in the process and many are trying to reconcile the shift.

                    • October 26, 2015 at 2:22 pm

whatever DEM candidate is chosen will be flawed…but we must support them anyway

and we must be engaged in order to engage others…it is imperative that there is a Huge turnout…because votes will be stolen…we only have our votes to beat back those who seek to steal our democracy…and this is no fear mongering

We can talk about the doom and gloom because of the top of the ticket…but if we cannot generate and motivate and give folks a reason to vote than we are in serious trouble…

it is not enough to just vote for whoever the nominee is…we have work to get DEMs in office on all levels….We must keep that in mind…that DEM voters need HOPE and Inspiration ….the GOP voters seem to thrive on fear and hate….

Please keep hammering that point PF. It doesn’t matter so much who is at the top of the ticket if they share your basic political views. There is more to this Presidential election than just the Presidency. We have to get our people to understand the impact of elected officials at all levels of government.

As a teacher and someone who has gotten a little taste of the US education system I applaud this video and the effort behind it also because I always like it when PBO says nice stuff about teaching and teachers and all that.
As a teacher I however also think them three principles are pretty much the vague things my government throws at me sometimes, so I hope tehre´s going to be a focus on getting teachers on the team because they know best what works and what doesn´t.
Also, if I may give you a principle 4:
Do away with multiple choice of all kind. 🙂

…Yeah so…I´ll be willing to work with the US administration, certain presidents can call me any time if they so choose 😉

    Suspected Indian gangster Chhota Rajan
Indonesian police have arrested one of India’s most wanted gangsters, sought in more than two dozen murder cases, on the resort island of Bali, the Central Bureau of Investigation said on Monday, ending a two-decade-long international manhunt.

Rajendra Nikalje, widely known as Chhota Rajan, has been on Interpol’s wanted list since 1995 for running a crime syndicate that engaged in extortion, arms smuggling and contract killing.

One State’s Struggle to Make Ends Meet: Why Illinois Is Without a Budget
    By JULIE BOSMANOCT. 26, 2015

CHICAGO — Illinois, notorious for its debt and dysfunction, is poised to begin its fifth month without a state budget, the consequence of a long-simmering ideological and political dispute between Gov. Bruce Rauner, the Republican who took office in January, and the Democrats who hold a supermajority in both chambers of the state legislature.

As the conflict threatens to drag into 2016, even those in power are issuing dire warnings about the consequences. Illinois is spending more money than it is taking in, said Leslie Munger, the state comptroller, who cautioned that the state would have about $8.5 billion in unpaid bills by the end of the year, partly because of the expiration of a temporary increase in income tax.

Gov. Bruce Rauner of Illinois last year. Mr. Rauner filed a brief at the Supreme Court, though he had not meant to speak for the state, the governor’s general counsel said.

Mr. Rauner has tied passage of the budget to changes in workers’ compensation and collective bargaining rights for unionized public employees, measures that he says will help revive the Illinois economy and bring in much-needed revenue. Democratic Party leaders in the state reject those suggestions, saying that the governor is making demands that are unrelated to the budget.

Some residents are losing patience, directing their anger at lawmakers and calling on state leaders to end the stalemate. Even members of Mr. Rauner’s own party are questioning his handling of the situation.
