What drives a person who has a wife and 4 children, to re-up for 14 deployments?
I hope his soul is at peace.

gm from down under GGail. I have a friend who was similar – he loved the military life style. Grew up with a somewhat disjointed family life & the army became his family from age 18. Served in Vietnam & stayed in the Army until compulsory retirement age. His marriage didn’t go the distance.

On a completely different topic – from the last thread – I share a name with your sister & it would seem also have her temperament 🙂 Must go with the name.

GM 99ts – first things first – I’m praying that Hurricane Patricia does not leave a whole lot of destruction in its wake! I’m beginning to feel sorry for my baby sister and now for all of you that are named Patricia 😯 On the other hand…swirling hot air has got to go somewhere… LOL!!!

You explanation makes sense 99ts. Something drove him to re-up over and over in spite of having a wife and 4 sons – who are now without him at all. It’s so sad. I truly hope his soul is at peace.

The last cyclone we had down under made land well away from major towns – that’s about the best we can hope for with this one – but Mexico would be much more densely populated than Oz. I do not know how the climate change deniers can keep sprouting their nonsense when around the world climate is getting more and more extreme.

    Great Post, NW. Truth.
I hope that is the way John H. would pointedly ask the GOPers during next week’s CNBC debate.
The Economy, GOPers! Your ideas to help US continue to Grow.
Note they will tout Cutting taxes, fabricating about the Deficit. As the overall Debt grows……5T plus owed to Social Security, nearly a Trillion in just Interest alone……..pray tell, how is cutting more taxes supposed to help solve the $18T plus in Debt?

Herman Cain understood the joke and played along with the joke, Dr. Carson refuses to even believe that he is a part of the joke. Herman Cain understood the joke so well that he ended up with a radio show and a six figure income. There is something troubling about Dr. Carson, for he seems to be at war with everything and everyone that reminds him of himself and his past. He grew up in government housing and has benefited from the very laws that he now despises so much. When you are a black man and you start saying slavery wasn’t all that bad, you have taken up residence in a place that is home to some of the most despicable people that this country has ever produced short of murders. Not even the most hardcore Republican African Americans have spouted such nonsense. To have the level of hate that Dr. Carson has towards institutions that have alleviated some of the hardships that have plagued the African American community for decades speaks to an inner turmoil. Dr. Carson seems to be like a man without a country, he seems to be so alone.

Don, I think that Carson is actually unwell. I heard him speak many years ago and he didn’t sound anything like the person he is today. I think it says a lot about Iowa Republicans that they believe someone who isn’t fully coherent would make a good candidate for president. However, Carson will not be the nominee for the Republican Party. The GOP powers that be may be evil creeps, but they will not allow their fortunes to rest on someone who would not survive, let alone win, a general election.

      • October 24, 2015 at 3:52 am

” …I think that Carson is actually unwell!….”

I share your observation, Jackie G! No one, including physicians, is immune from mental illness. If Dr. Carson is not mentally sick, he must be one of the most exceptional con man in the world

    • October 23, 2015 at 4:38 pm

I’ve followed him for at least 15 years. Born and raised in the projects by an illiterate mother on welfare; serious behavioral problems while a teen.
Dr. Carson was Black and Poor back when the Government programs he took advantage of would actually make a difference.

He was given chances to work through his behavioral problems and see the light and live up to the potential that others saw in him.

He went to school back when being Black, Poor and Smart, meant that you went free.

The talented Ben Carson of today graduates with 200k in debt from med school.

But, then again, we’ll never get to see the talented Ben Carson of 2015, because the behavioral issues that Ben Carson got to ‘work through’ back in the day, until he could live up to the promise others saw in him, would be, in today’s ‘zero tolerance ‘ society, all up in the school -to-prison pipeline.

I don’t begrudge him finding his way and seeing the light.
I don’t begrudge this country’s investment in him so that he could live up to his professional promise.

I DO begrudge him spouting all the nonsense he does today, as if he didn’t t get everything he has because of a GOVERNMENT PROGRAM.

So, in reference to the shot of Patricia from the ISS: Watched a BBC Horizons documentary on “space junk”, and it was frightening. The USAF tracks up to 22,000 pieces of space debris which can hit the ISS, satellites, rocket launches, etc. Basically, if a handle isn’t gotten on the situation, Earth orbit will be closed off to us.

    ManUnited’s Rooney (Chipsticks heart-throb) turns 30 tomorrow…

    and in other futbol news…

Lionel Messi has reportedly indicated he’s ready to quit Barcelona.
After 14 years in Catalonia, it is claimed he wants to test himself in the Premier League, with Manchester City, United and Chelsea interested all in the four-time World Player of the Year.

The Sun claim all three clubs have made contact with Messi’s representatives, with one of the trio making contact on two occasions in the last week.

It is reported a number of Premier League stars who are friends with Messi have attempted to convince him to move to England.

Messi’s readiness to leave Barcelona has also allegedly been influenced by the recent tax troubles he is having in Catalonia.

    • October 23, 2015 at 4:29 pm

May also have to do with Catalonia’s persistent suggestions that it will just up and secede from Spain. The Spanish La Liga has said that if that happens, Barcelona can no longer play in the league. If that happens, Barcelona’s revenues will plummet.

      This man is too funny!
President Obama compared the “gloomy” Republican Party to grumpy cat, the dour-faced feline Internet celebrity, on Friday.

Pouting in his best imitation of the cat that spawned a thousand memes, Obama was met with raucous laughter from attendees at the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum.

“Overall, we’re making enormous progress,” Obama said. “And it does make you wonder, why is it that Republican politicians are so down on America? Have you noticed that? I mean, they are gloomy. They’re like grumpy cat.”

“Everything is terrible, according to them,” the President continued. “We’re doomed. I mean, I know it’s political season, but you listen to them and they’ve constructed this entire separate reality, like the twilight zone. And according to their story, their narrative, everything was terrific back in 2008.”

I can’t wait to view this! HA!

C-SPAN callers are a special breed: civically engaged, obsessive politicos, and sometimes very racist. The network got a live one during a break from Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi testimony on Thursday, with a caller asking why Congress doesn’t have a “white caucus.”

The man who identified himself as David, a Republican calling from Glendale, Ariz., didn’t waste time when he got on air.

“Hi, I’d like to know why there is not a white caucus in Congress,” David said.

“…Bullard would be seriously wounded several times, but he never gave up his fight for freedom and justice. At the beginning of World War II, he even worked as a spy, fighting against Nazi sympathizers. In 1954, France invited him to be one of three people to relight the everlasting flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider. In 1959, he was made a chevalier (knight) of the Légion d’honneur, which is France’s most coveted award.

When he finally returned to the U.S., no one knew him, and he lived in poverty and relative obscurity. The only reminders of his hero status in his humble apartment were a few photos and a framed case containing his 15 French war medals for valor.

When the French president finally got to meet the courageous French knight, he publicly and internationally embraced Eugene Bullard as a true hero.

When he died a year later, On October, 12, 1961, he was laid to rest with full honors by the Federation of French War Officers.

It would take his own country 33 years, but on August 23, 1994, Eugene Bullard was posthumously commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

Bullard “was a man who hesitated to speak of himself but one who stood on the principles of honesty and integrity. He treated everyone as he wished to be treated . . . He lived by the belief that all men were created equal and should be treated accordingly,” according to William I. Chivalette, Curator at the Air Force Enlisted Heritage Research Institute.

He is remembered for painting a red bleeding heart pierced by a knife on the fuselage of his plane. Below the heart was the inscription “Tout le Sang qui coule est rouge!” which translates to “All Blood Runs Red.”

      ~ Eugene Bullard, October 9, 1894 – October, 12 1961″
