Morning everyone…just reading up on what I missed last night and had a thought. PBO and VP Biden are the most progressive, accomplished team in decades and are graciously holding open the door for Dems to pick up the mantle and walk through. Rather than be gracious and appreciative of all they have done to make things right for the people, and stay Thank You for holding door, they are getting it slammed with hardly a word of appreciation for the hard work, with an obstructive congress of dangerous lunatics, making it 4 times has hard to get ANYTHING of consequence done! When they do that, they excuse the real problem (Republicans) and allow this to continue without calling them out or acknowledging the extreme difficulty that the President had getting anything done with the ignorant bullies that bills had to get past. I’m fairly certain that they credit for anything that made THEM look good though…. I will have to hold my nose, but I knew that going in…because these men are one of a kind. We have to make sure that their hard fought legacy lives on forever…THAT’S why I will hold my nose and vote for whatever Dem is left standing at the end. For my guys.

Df, what PBO has shown us is a model of graciousness and an ability to focus on the larger, global picture. As we move to the 2016 election (we’re still working on 2015 in my world), I will take my cues from the President. He will want us to fight hard for the Dem nominee and for Senate candidates just as he will when the time comes. I feel that we owe him the courtesy of doing no less than he asks us to do. We do this because we care about our families, our country and the state of the world. It is a gift when we can actually “love” our candidate, but it’s not always possible, so, like our president, we rouse ourselves to work for the greater good.

        October 22, 2015 at 9:28 am

PERFECTLY said, jackie. This is exactly my thinking.

      • October 22, 2015 at 9:42 am

jackie, I appreciate what you’re saying of course but it will take me quite a while to be able to stomach the idea of scandal prone and ethically challenged Hillary and Bill Clinton in the White House again. I am doing my best to accept the absence of VP from the race, which is a great challenge in and of itself even though I’ve known how the DNC has been rigged from the get-go with the Clintons making sure their cronies were appointed to key committees last year. I agree that we can’t always expect to love our candidates but I should be able to at the very least respect them.

So this process of being forced into a position of having to support HRC will take time for some of us. I can already see this blog will become a place where she will be vigorously defended so, respectfully, I know I must get with the program.

        • 23 jackiegrumbacher
          October 22, 2015 at 9:55 am

Meta, I totally appreciate your feelings and I share them. I also can’t see the day when I will rigorously defend HRC. But our imperfect world and even more imperfect electoral process means we will be faced with a choice between her and some racist, regressive bigot on the Republican side. Given that choice, we have no other alternative than do save our country from certain disaster.

          • October 22, 2015 at 12:02 pm

Yes, I do get that, jackie. I guess for me it’s very visceral right now. And I’m so incensed at the treatment of VP Joe by the Dem Party, that he had to feel that disregard as he is grieving his beloved son. I know our choice is made. But I must say that after the last 7 years, my idealist view of the party will never be the same.

          October 22, 2015 at 9:57 am

I hear ya meta. And let me tell you this: I WILL NOT be someone who will vigorously defend HRC if her behavior is not worthy of my vigorous defense! I’m going to be honest here: I have to admit that the idea of the Clintons back in the WH does NOT represent progress for me. It represents a step back into the ’90s – the same old rules, and game-playing, scandal after scandal – manufactured or not, Black politicians and “activists” being given pats on the back for doing absolutely nothing (hello CBC?), more triangulation with the GOP, going to war, doing what is poll-tested, rather than what is right.., and I could go on…

          • October 22, 2015 at 10:02 am

Yes, you put it exactly – it’s a big step backwards to the days before the Obamas interfered with their priorities. Although she’s obviously learned something from her poll testing, we all remember reading that her first instinct along with her handlers was to run against PBO right before her launch. I always believe people the first time. It’s Clinton and Trump fatigue for me and it’s only October. We are in for a long and gruesome ride.

I feel exactly as you do. The idea of Bill & Hill in the WH is sickening. If she is the nominee, she will get my vote, nothing more. I hope this blog doesn’t turn into a Hillary cheer-leading site. She can defend herself.

Black Fox News Staffers Sound Off About ‘Difficult’ Work Environment
The staffers find it “very difficult” to work at the network, former president of the National Association of Black Journalists Bob Butler tells TheWrap.

Network Blasts Observation by Former NABJ President

“African-American Fox News staffers find it ‘very difficult’ to work at the network, former president of the National Association of Black Journalists Bob Butler told TheWrap on Thursday,” Jordan Charlton reported for TheWrap.com.

” ‘I’ve talked to some folks who work there and it’s very difficult, especially when you have all the hit pieces that are done on Obama,’ Butler said.

“His comments come as Rupert Murdoch continues to face criticism over a controversial tweet on Wednesday that insinuated President Obama isn’t ‘a real black president.’ Murdoch apologized on Thursday.

“But those disillusioned staffers also told Butler, ‘Look, this is a job, I have to do it, and sometimes you have to just hold your nose and do what you have to do to collect a paycheck.’ Butler, who served as president of the NABJ from 2013-2015, said those employees are good producers who pride themselves on covering news.

God Morning TOD. OT, is there anyone here than can make a post on what is going on in NH school districts on this lunch program.? My DIL posted something on FB about it and looks like they want to opt out of the nutrition part of what the First Lady is trying to do in school lunchs. Apparently they said “they lost money” on feeding children healthy food. And the Gov & FDA is going after them with regulations and such. I don’t know how to post this over here so you can read this stuff. Just curious if anyone has an insight to the matter. They can find the article on my FB. Judith is a FB and so is Tally. Thanks. There’s been no President-Vice President combination in recent history that matches the current one. Not Carter-Mondale, Reagan-Bush, Bush-Quale, Clinton-Gore, and as you indicated, certainly not Bush-Cheney.

Obama-Biden 2006-2016 will forever be etched in our memories – and in the most illustrious way!

  15. October 22, 2015 at 10:32 am

    Good day TOD

I wrote this during the night, not knowing when I’d have a few seconds to post it.

As I was moving from mtg to mtg yesterday I reflected on Oct 2007. A quick search yielded just what I was seeking – Gallup poll from Oct 2007. I quickly sent a link to it as a reminder to Gov O’Malley.

In the TOD community I don’t have to explain that in Oct 2007, Senator Clinton had no serious competition. Period.

Anyone lurking here who doesn’t remember just how certain everyone was that Ms Clinton would be the Dem nominee for President, should read at least these few sentences:

    ====================================

“The Democratic Race: Conditions Auspicious for Sen. Clinton to Win

Gallup’s 2007 national presidential polling strongly points to Clinton winning the 2008 Democratic nomination. Barring something unusual or otherwise unexpected, she is well positioned for the 2008 Democratic primaries.

Clinton has led the Democratic pack in every Gallup Poll conducted between November 2006 and October 2007. For most of this time, Clinton has led Obama by a double-digit margin.

Clinton’s lead over Obama has expanded to nearly 30 points in Gallup’s latest poll, conducted Oct. 12-14: 50% vs. 21%.

Gallup polling on Democratic nominations going back to the 1972 election shows that, by historical standards, a lead of even 20 points is large for Democratic candidates. The two candidates who held this distinction in the fall months before the election year (Gore in 1999 and Walter Mondale in 1983) eventually won the Democratic nomination.

Importantly, two-thirds of Democrats who prefer Clinton for their party’s nomination say they are certain to vote for her in the primaries, a higher percentage than is found for supporters of the other Democratic candidates.

    Clinton ’s Support Runs Deep

Clinton holds a commanding lead among nearly every major subgroup of potential Democratic primary voters. Some of her strongest showings are among women, nonwhites, those in lower-income households, those with less formal education, and Southerners.”

    Link in tweet.

    ===============================

And, on and on and on it goes ……….

    We all know the outcome.

I truly hope Gov O’Malley gets his act together. It’s a long time to 1 Feb 2016; just as it was a long time between 23 October 2007 (when the Gallup summary was written) and 3 January 2008.

Won’t repeat what I wrote yesterday, shortly after learning of VP Biden’s honorable decision. But, I will state that Ms Clinton will not receive my vote in the WA State Dem primary. If she’s what we’re stuck with on 8 Nov 2016, I’ll vote for her.

Will try to visit with all you dear folk again, either late tonight or tomorrow sometime. And, please do savor these next 14 months.

Good day TOD. Let us not forget that all of this noise over Clinton’s testimony would be nothing without the added distraction of her email server. It would simply be a repeat of her former testimony. An excellent reminder of what we can expect if the Clintons end up back in the WH. Yes, I will vote for her if she is the D nominee but only to preserve PBO’s accomplishments. It will never be a vote for her in her own right. So very sad after the years of Obama-Biden.
