Analysis is that all backfired in a powerful way because most Canadians see their country as an accepting multi-cultural society. Would that US culture was more strongly inclined that way.

Oh, you’re definitely right on that! There are plenty of racist fans who come out of the woodwork when there’s even a HINT that the hero/heroine of their fantasies may not be portrayed by a white person (James Bond, anyone?).
I remember the same ugliness over a Hunger Games character. ‘I didn’t realize she would actually be BLACK.’

I’ve been tracking some of the analysis in Canada on the CBC. Seems that Harper really played up the anti-Muslim bigotry and beat the drum about banning the use of the niqab (face veil). Analysis is that all backfired in a powerful way because most Canadians see their country as an accepting multi-cultural society. Would that US culture was more strongly inclined that way.
Wish it was the case Bill – but the leader of the NDP came out in force saying allow people to wear what they will and lost their vote to the liberals. I haven’t found what Trudeau had to say about the issue.

Not exactly – sadly Vicki – we got rid of a RWNJ but still have a RW government that hasn’t changed many policies. The PM is intelligent & understands climate change but is in a similar position to Boehner in the US – quite some fools in his party. We had a party remove their leader (like Boehner going), Canada had an election.
