Pf, Dent is my congressman and he has actually made sense twice in the last month. I watched Pres Clinton on Stephen Colbert the other night (only because I watch Stephen every night 🙂 )
One thing I will say for Bill, he has been the only person in the race (let’s face it, he was a sub for Hillary, who probably doesn’t want to come on since Stephen so obviously wants Joe to run and calls her out on her parsing/posturing) who called out Dem voters for only showing up for Presidential elections. Stephen was asking him something related to the Clinton Global Initiative being public/private and how, with so many Americans frustrated with inaction in Congress, does he think public/private is the answer. And good on him, Bill Clinton said it clearly (paraphrasing here) that the reason that nothing gets done is because Democrats don’t bother to show up for congressional elections. He also knocked down the myth that a Repub Pres plus a Repub congress would be better because at least something would get done. All he had to do was remind people of GWB’s first term with an R House and Senate and what disasters came out of that. Bernie, Elizabeth Warren, both of them have been on Colbert ranting about the game being rigged, blah, blah, and Stephen tried to prompt them and get them to provide a plan of action but both of them avoided talking about any solutions. I was relieved to hear Bill Clinton call it out plain and simple: Congress is broken because Dems sat out both midterms.
For my part, I am waiting for Joe to announce his decision. I am holding onto my donation dollars (not a lot, but a lot to me!). If Joe runs, I’ll donate the very moment I hear about it. If he decides not to run, I will immediately donate to the Obama Foundation instead.
Joe’s the only candidate I will get excited for at this point. I know there will never be another PBO. If Joe were that, he would be President now. Joe will not be PBO, but he is a good and honest man and he is our best chance for protecting PBO’s accomplishments and continuing to move forward.
How sad that NO BODY wants to lead these band of crazies. Isn’t this is what Bonehead stepped down to prevent the damage to the House Speakership? What a mess.
PBO broke the Republican House of Representatives because now they can’t function as one body because they are functioning as one brain. They keep voting to defund, impeach, and undo PBO past five years and he won’t do as they say.

And there is a possibility, remote as it may seem. There are 188 Democrats in the House right now, and 218 votes are needed to elect someone to be Speaker. That is only 30 Republicans that have to cross over out of 247 to give her 218 votes. That is 12% of the Republicans. Might that be possible? Could there be enough middle of the road Republicans wanting to get something done in their time in DC to make the leap?

Arguments against about voter ID are many, but key is the difficulty of getting them — paperwork (need ID A to get ID B), cost (can be prohibilitive for the poor, especially if you don’t drive/have to take off work to get supporting paperwork and go to DMV), availability of places to get them (note closure of 75% of DMV offices in Alabama’s majority black counties — this is no accident).
I’d suspect the process for getting IDs and the requirements for getting IDs in India is likely not as prohibitive as it is here, given that Republicans want fewer voters at the polls, not more.
and to another point…it is not about having ID…many folks even poor folks have ID…it is the KIND of ID that is required now…what is being required is a State Issued ID
In PA getting a state issued ID requires a Birth certificate and Social Security card…
getting both if you do not have them is expensive,,,,
in addition…students cannot use their student ID which in the past they could…the state was not even accepting Veteran’s ID…
if you were not born in PA…you have to get your BC from the state that you were born in…if you are a senior…a blk senior…they may not have recorded your birth…not a new thing for blk folks..
and now they have gone further…they have closed DMVs where you can get the state issued ID…ex: Alabama…
