Jake Tapper, self-proclaimed Philly guy who’s now co-opting the merits of the whole city, a guy I cannot stand, asks Archbishop Chaput (in a previous interview) if they’ll offer a soft pretzel to the Pope and where they’d get the Philly Cheese Steak they’ll offer him, if they do that, and names the top competing places. Archbishop deflects the question, and thinks to himself, “This is what this juvenile’s asking me?”
Speaking of soft pretzels out of Philly – while in the city, we used to buy them from lone street vendors who’d hand individual pretzels to you in your passing car in a small brown bag while you were traveling on Roosevelt Boulevard – not sure but I think they cost $1 each, a couple of decades ago. One of the best parts of the ride! When I worked across the bridge, one of our co-workers from Philly would do a “pretzel run” weekly, and we’d place our orders. Those pretzels, to me, were kind of like some of the “wonders of the world,” and nothing compares.
