Just FYI…I’ll be checking on you all but my posting will be light for the next few days. Didn’t want anyone to worry about me:) You know how we get when someone isn’t around for awhile…the worry sets in:) I’m fine, just a little R&R. Much needed time off the merry-go-round.

AMK, after reading Carson’s comments on the Big Bang theory, I had to wonder how he could become a pediatric brain surgeon without taking any science courses. The stupidity is deep and wide among Republican pres. candidates, but Carson seems to be setting a new standard.

As I told over, surgeons are mechanics and have poor diagnostic capabilities. Physicians are engineers. 😎

My husband always says that. He’s a infectious diseases specialist who could have gone into surgery but said it wasn’t stimulating enough for his brain😊😊.

That’s exactly what my goddaughter the surgeon says. It’s all mechanics and, to quote her, “any idiot with mechanical skills can be a surgeon.” I doubt that that’s true, but there is no other medical field that is that insulated from reality.

That being said, I don’t want to be operated on by someone who thinks the devil made Darwin come up with the theory of evolution.

Wow, imagine having had MULTIPLE papal visits. Pope Pius XII is the name I remember from my childhood days as a Catholic girl (long since lapsed). He seemed to last forever and appeared strict and remote. Nancy P looks cute in that photo.

Morning, everyone. I hope the R members of Congress don’t make fools of themselves during the pope’s address. They are such an international embarrassment. The next three weeks will be giddy/exhausting/hectic for me. Son arrives tomorrow at noon for two week stay and then our three-year old granddaughter is staying with us for a week on her own. So much to do, so much to plan, including a big Salsa the Vote event on November 1. Hope everyone has a great and glorious Fall day.

You know, Chips, of all the people in the world you kind of hoped, expected, prayed would NOT be sexist it is the Dalai Lama. I guess you can be enlightened about a lot of things, but blind on this big one. We’re talking half the people in the world here, Fella. Wake up!

A man and a woman are sleeping together when suddenly there is a noise in the house, and the woman rolls over and says, “It’s my husband, you have to leave!”

The man jumps out of bed, jumps through the window, crawls through the bushes, and out on the street, when he realizes something.

He goes back to the house and says to the woman, “Wait, I’m your husband!”

She replies giving him a dirty look, “So why did you run?”

OMG!! Boeher is a graceless, embarrassing fool. He sat down before the Pope did and before greeting his entourage. He had to get back up to shake their hands. Contrast this with the solicitous manner in which PBO treated the older Pope; slowing his steps, listening attentively, allowing him to proceed him, hand at the ready to assist, leaning down or toward him to listen so that the pope need not raise his voice and on (PBO is always very good in how he treats older people with care and respect). Boehner must have been raised ina barn.

If the Republicans feel the need to tell Pope Francis not to get political, why don’t they put some duct tape over the mouth of Cardinal Dolan?

I had not seen the video where he requests a pic with just the first lady for his daughter, Just love it! Our first family is all grace and class, of course with a huge side helping of humor. none of the 16,18, 20 or however many people running for 2016 would be able to duplicate such qualities on a daily basis.

    • September 24, 2015 at 9:43 am

kid kanga, I remember this video. I’m just glad you didn’t show that piece of crap ex-Italy PM who look like he was trying to get fresh with FLOTUS.

Of course if VP runs, then maybe 1 person running would duplicate some class and humor, unlike the GOP knuckledraggers.

Most Of The Radical Ideas The Black Panthers Had Are Now Totally Mainstream

    by Carimah Townes Sep 23, 2015 8:00am

For decades since their inception in the 1960s, members of the liberation group known as the Black Panthers were labeled thugs and hateful extremists who set out to ruin the U.S. They were considered the antithesis to Martin Luther King Jr. — armed and dangerous. And that’s how many people still remember them today.

But a new documentary, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, dives into the rise and fall of the Panthers’ political agenda, offering a counter-narrative that’s more timely than ever.

Combining interviews with former members of the party with archival footage of Panther activity, Stanley Nelson’s documentary explores the white supremacy and state-sanctioned police violence that inspired a revolutionary movement — and how that movement redefined black power and pride.

It talks about the key players — founders Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, Eldridge Cleaver, one of the most vocal and recognizable Panthers, and women like Elaine Brown and Kathleen Cleaver who switched up traditional gender roles and actually dominated the party. The party created the Ten Point Program, a platform that served as the blueprint for uplifting the black community through job creation and social services.

The film pulls back the curtain on COINTELPRO, the government-backed FBI campaign initiated by J. Edgar Hoover to destroy the Panthers. By following every move they made (via wire tapping and planting spies in the organization), falsely imprisoning them, and murdering them outright, the counterintelligence program sought “to expose, disrupt, misdirect, discredit, or otherwise neutralize the activities of black nationalist hate-type organizations and groupings.” Hoover, on behalf of the U.S. government, was hellbent on “[preventing] the rise of a messiah who could unify, and electrify, the militant black nationalist movement.”

The film also hones in on what made the organization famous: the Panthers’ militant approach to fighting systemic racism — and their arsenal of weapons.
