17.6M People Have Peace Of Mind. Thanks, ObamaCare

Sarah Ferris: ObamaCare Sign-Ups Swell To 17.6 Million

A total of 17.6 million people have gained coverage under ObamaCare, according to a revised government estimate. The newest figure, which is based on national survey data, shows that 1.2 million more people had signed up for healthcare over the last five years than previously thought. The revised total includes 15.3 million people who gained coverage through the individual marketplace or through Medicaid. It also includes 2.3 million young adults who gained coverage because they were able to remain on a parent’s plan until they turn 26.

The new data also puts the Obama administration ahead of the health insurance gains estimated by the Congressional Budget Office for 2015. The CBO had predicted roughly 17 million people would gain coverage by 2015.  Health and Human Services (HHS) chief Sylvia Mathews Burwell announced the new figure Tuesday during a speech at Howard University Hospital, where she also highlighted the law’s impact on black and Hispanic populations. “This progress has been even bigger for people of color,” she said, pointing to the 10 percent drop in the uninsured rate among black Americans.

    A little levity 😎

WASHINGTON—Admitting the startling discovery had compelled him to reexamine his long-held beliefs, His Holiness Pope Francis announced Tuesday that he had reversed his critical stance toward capitalism after seeing the immense variety of Oreos available in the United States. “Oh, my goodness, look at all these! Golden Oreos, Cookie Dough Oreos, Mega Stuf Oreos, Birthday Cake Oreos—perhaps the system of free enterprise is not as terrible as I once feared,” said the visibly awed bishop of Rome while visiting a Washington, D.C. supermarket, adding that the sheer diversity of flavors, various colors and quantities of creme filling, and presence or absence of an outer fudge layer had led to a profound philosophical shift in his feelings toward the global economy and opened his eyes to the remarkable capabilities of the free market. “Only a truly exceptional and powerful economic system would be capable of producing so many limited-edition and holiday-themed flavors of a single cookie brand, such as these extraordinary Key Lime Pie Oreos and Candy Corn Oreos. This is not a force of global impoverishment at all, but one of endless enrichment.”

Truly disgusting people – and supposedly leaders in their land – their disgusting behavior would result in dismissal in so many parts of the world. So much for their religious beliefs – pure b.s.

Nah! They hate the Pope now. Thinks he has the right to tell them how to be Christians and too chummy with President they hate. Soo, Francis goes to dog house!

      • September 23, 2015 at 6:39 pm

the presidency of Barack Obama has revealed the underbelly of HATE that is as wide as the Grand Canyon and just as deep…but on the other the hand the President has gathered a coalition of citizens that was able to beat that underbelly not once but twice

Scalia not going isn’t a surprise to me. Though he has a son who is a Priest. 9 children total. However, Scalia is more of the Catholic Opus Dei worshiper. Pope Francis is a Jesuit………..from the “Rebel” Priesthood.
Alito and Thomas? I am not sure why they would not be attending.
Kagan and Breyer, no mention of their participation?

This is the meaning of orthopraxis vs. orthodoxy. Orthopraxis is the teaching of the original St. Francis. Right behavior, right service trumps believing the “right” things every time. Interesting how the pope took the name of St. Francis and now continues his teaching in so many ways.

  25. September 23, 2015 at 6:12 pm

I continue to be amazed at the ignorance of the media in their reporting on the pope. It’s like they never heard of social justice and care for the earth as a foundational dimension of religion before.

    • 49 jacquelineoboomer
      September 23, 2015 at 11:28 pm

Perhaps they haven’t. I often wonder where some of them were “hatched.” They don’t land deep on too many issues that they should know about and be well versed in – no depth whatsoever, with some of them. Like the first time they’ve ever heard there are tenets to religion. They seem to have learned from comic books and caricatures. Only. Ugh.

    Good Afternoon TOD!
I want to thank everyone who helped visualize and pray for my friend Bob, who underwent surgery for a subdural hematoma two days ago. The surgery went into the night, as the situation was more complicated than they realized, but he made it through! Amazingly, after they removed the huge hematoma his brain just expanded right back to fill the cavity. He is o.k. now, hallucinating a bit, but improving. His wife said he had a near-death experience.

I know without a doubt that the mighty prayers and thoughts of TODers made a difference!
Thank you to those who posted their wishes:

    Nerdy Wonka
    Mighty Pamela
And anyone who commented with good wishes that I have neglected to mention.

Also thank you to everyone lurking who sent positive thoughts.

The Obama coalition is powerful on many levels! 🙂

Perhaps the Pope’s visit with PBO helped too 🙂 I’m not Catholic, but hey, PBO and Pope Francis are such forces of light in our current world, having them together must be radiating some powerful energy!

    And now, to catch up….

Nancy Lee Grahn Suspended from ABC for Viola Davis Diss

Posted September 22, 2015 by Matt under Celebrities, Social Media, Television

General Hospital actress Nancy Lee Grahn has been put on leave indefinitely by ABC while the network investigates her recent comments towards Emmy winner Viola Davis. It has also been reported that several ABC sponsors have pulled their ads from the network because of Sunday night’s controversy.

I honestly didn’t expect it to go this far, but Black Twitter doesn’t play. In fact, it wasn’t just Black Twitter that came for Grahn. It was Asian Twitter, White Twitter, and every other “Twitter” that got together and dragged her ass. Nancy fucked up. She has been incendiary for so many years and she’s finally getting what she rightfully deserves.

I’ll just be sad if her ignorant remarks get GH cancelled. While it hasn’t been a good show for a while, it’s one of the last remaining soaps that I actually watch.

  34. September 23, 2015 at 7:03 pm

Thank you NW….for such beautiful photos of such a historic day….
i was on the bus today and i overheard a conversation between two women…woman No1 said …it is going to be a mess….Woman No2 said that pope was costing people money a lot of money….i felt so sad in my heart….i did not interrupt…and they soon turned to other conversation…

i felt sad…because the Pope brings a message of HOPE…Tolerance….Peace…Activism to eradicate poverty

there is a piece written by Nancy the Artist at the People’s View..which gave me such an uplift…

The time for change has come. It’s not going to be possible to put a new coat of paint on an old idea. It still won’t work. It’s still unsustainable. It is collapsing. It is in its death throws. It needs to be replaced by a completely new idea and that idea is to begin to understand ourselves as one. Nothing is separate from everything else. We are a deeply interconnected and interwoven system. Nothing can be sustained as separate.

that is unbelievable. perfect example of all that’s wrong with “the news” nowadays. the owners of the major news outlets only hire people at the lowest pay possible, which means basically interns or beginners, and force out/not hire anyone older with proven experience as professionals, since those people expect to be able to pay for a mortgage from their jobs…crazy idea, isn’t it! that way all the advertising money just gets to trickle-up to the owners and their heirs.

so the industry is filled more and more with people who think “journalism” is just a simple, quick internet search for “jews” and then quickly slap the first image that catches their eye onto the broadcast. quick and easy! i work with a lot people like this, where the extra 10 seconds it takes to do extremely simple research to make sure something is just in the ballpark of true, seems like a huge burden to their attention-defected minds. sad state of affairs. media conglomerates need to be broken up…again…to start moving back into a sane media landscape.

A Christian religious leader no less! They are still following the 2009 No 1 rule – if the President is for it – we are against it. It seems to have won them seats in congress – and in the states – and will not stop until people vote them out (then again with the vote supression going on this will not be easy).
