A Minnesota lawmaker who was ticketed after a park ranger caught him allegedly “making out” with another legislator last week inside a parked car said the two just met up to swap documents, not spit.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Tuesday that a Dakota County sheriff’s deputy issued citations for causing a nuisance on Aug. 25 to state Reps. Tim Kelly (R) and Tara Mack (R). Court records obtained by the newspaper showed the deputy found Kelly “making out with a female in car” around 4:30 p.m. in a park in Eagan, Minnesota. The deputy wrote in his notes that the woman’s pants “were unzipped and pulled down,” according to the Pioneer Press.
The lawmakers, who are married to other people, both issued statements that contested the deputy’s version of events.
Kelly said in a statement to the Pioneer Press that he met up with Mack in the park to pick up documents related to a health-care plan when he was approached by the deputy about a parking violation.

They cannot separate the truth from the lie. And worse, the Republican Party as a whole can no longer distinguish between the two. When 54% of Republicans believe Barack Obama is a Muslim in the year 2015, there is officially no distinction between the truth a lie in their minds. It has been repeated so often on Fox News, by their politicians, in their communities that they officially believe it to be true.

There are three victories here.
The first victory goes to Kim Davis and the Fascist Fundamentalist Christians who are bankrolling her — because they got exactly what they wanted: a Fundie Martyr to fan the flames of their fanaticism even higher.
The second victory goes to the Constitution which is being upheld, and to the gay couples in that county who will now get the marriage licenses they are legally entitled to that they have been waiting months on end to acquire.
And the third victory goes to all Progressives: because we can now point to this precedent since it has been made crystal clear that the views of Fundamentalist Christianity are entirely incompatible with the fact that people have inalienable legal rights that must be upheld and protected via the Constitution of the United States.

The judge also gave Davisā deputy clerks thirty minutes to decide if they want to join their boss in jail for not issuing marriage licenses.
Davis will be released when she decides to start issuing marriage licenses.
Why don’t the Davis woman quit the job? Go fine her another job.
My sense is that right about now it has gotten real for her, in her mind it was cute to her that she was able to stop someone from getting married. But now that she sits in federal lockup, it is slowing dawning on her that this isn’t cute anymore.
Oh she’ll be fine. She’ll sit tight in the lockup for a while – let that martyrdom marinate for a bit – then come out, resign and hire a booking agent.
