The bitter laughter of satire

I watched this video, expecting a cathartic laugh at the stupidity of white racism.

I received nothing of the kind.

What I was left with was an overwhelming sadness that in 2015 a satirical piece like this still needs to be made. Left with a sadness that for all the noted advancements since the 1950s, it seems as if we’re either stuck or regressing in race relations.

This is not how it was supposed to be. But it was also a fantasy to think that a 400-year system of racism and oppression would be lifted in a few short decades, when so many white people never acknowledged any injustice.

Watch this. You’ll laugh at first. And then the pit of your stomach will empty at the realization of the dark truth it reveals.

My heart breaks for that young black man. People who do this to others deserve a fast track to the unemployment line as well as a special place in hell.

As well as white patronage, one hopes.

I hadn’t seen that before LL. That is true satire. A sad truth dressed in a happy song – but it cuts deep. Thanks for sharing it otherwise I would have missed it.

Ask Jennifer Epstein why haven’t her racists bully Trump ask Ted Cruz for his birth certificate?

Bobfr what can one expect of a state who sent Jodie Ernst to the senate. 🙂

“While Sanders attracted the largest crowd yet this year at the newspaper’s stage, he scored relatively little media attention at the fair. It’s hard to compete with a billionaire celebrity and his helicopter.”

Doesn’t this part tell all we need to know about the shallowness of the media ?? Senator Sanders attracts big crowds in Iowa. Wouldn’t that simple fact mean that the media should give him a lot of attention? But no. It’s all about the billionaire who is nothing more than a carnival barker.

      Unbelievable.

They have been doing this since January 2009 – not really unbelievable any more – just the media trying to elect a GOP president – for reasons unknown to anyone sane.

“It’s hard to compete with a billionaire celebrity and his helicopter”

no it isn’t. the media is smart enough to realize neither one will ever be POTUS so they go with what will get the most clicks. At this point this race is dead boring. The majority of the public doesn’t care much for ANY of the contestants.

Alright TODobots and friends, you guys always have *the* answers.

Tell me true, what happens after I feel the bern? Are there physical or psychological ramifications? Am I supposed to *feel* inspired, motivated, satisfied, or what? I mean, what is this bern, because surely they are not asking me to feel Bernie the person, are they? Enlighten me, do!

    • August 15, 2015 at 9:40 pm

It’s a bullsh*t knock off of the ‘feel the burn’ physical workout meme, imho oh ‘quiet one.’ Am sure much more enlightened others may have an alternative explanation for you, but that’s the best I got 😉

Even as such it makes no sense to me as a rallying cry for a nation, Bfr! There are enough Americans already feeling the ‘burn’ of poverty, injustice, ill-health or whatever for Bernie to come along and offer nothing vis-a-vis hope or relief. Seems very self-centred of him/them to offer up himself and nothing more!

        • August 15, 2015 at 10:14 pm

Have zero disagreement with your assessment, VC. I was merely addressing the silly knockoff nature of the meme. Placed in your cogent context, it descends from silly knockoff to a meme reflective of the entitlement so deeply ingrained in white supremacy.

bbl … sup prep time …….

LL, I’ve been waiting for you to write about the Embassy reopened in Cuba and how the GenX Cubans on both sides of the ocean can work to improve living standards in Cuba.
