As Iv’e been saying. NYC supports the deal and loves our POTUS.

Now, Please take down the hate billboard in Times Square and welcome visitors to our City.
Also, stop with the robocalls, TV screeching ads and full pages of hate fear and racism in our newspapers.

Face it—Bloomberg, Schumer, Zuckerman, Murdoch and the rest of you. Nobody gives a fuck what you are saying.

    GA TODville.

PBO going to Alaska means that he is uber-serious about the 2016 Paris Climate Summit.

Alaska and the Pacific NW are the areas most (adversely) affected by climate change:

The islands that some Alaskans live on now will be underwater in a decade (!) or so…

That GOP crowd at the rally for Jeb! that was shouting White Lives Matter epitomize the nasty, vile Republican base – and then some. Shame on each and every one of them.

Since Jesse Williams mentions #SandraBland today, here’s a tweet I threatened to post here a couple of weeks ago, but I have neglected my TODville duties. 😦

I so hope that this investigation is not considered closed by elected officials and news media. #SandraBland’s rough treatment at the hands of the trooper no doubt caused her death, similar to Natasha Richardson’s shocking death. And the Texas Rangers covered up her death by the ludicrous “suicide” claim from the trash bag liner — as many people tweeted, jail cells don’t have trash receptacles.

Drove me nuts that MSM continually “reported” a confrontation between the trooper and #SandraBland, but it’s clear he provoked/escalated the situation by saying “You look irritated.” — who the hell wouldn’t be?

IMO the trooper expected #SandraBland to plead for mercy, and his response would be something to the effect of… “well, there is something you could do for me, little lady…” Eww/ugh.

          • August 13, 2015 at 7:34 pm

As far as I know, they are all in lockstep with voting NO. Flake said he was keeping an open mind but the last few days he’s been sounding very negative.

Oh. Too bad. Maybe Flake will show up in Cuba tomorrow. He was a key to this success. He was part of the group bringing Alan Gross home, remember?

              • August 13, 2015 at 7:47 pm

So their instructions to defeat PBO on every issue is much more important than doing the right thing on the world stage. If the GOP wins in 2016, the US will be on its own with foreign policy, unwanted and untrusted (except for Israel, of course). And I keep remembering that the majority of democrats stood with GWB because – President.

Just returned a couple minutes ago 99 – as others have noted, most likely zero if the vote were today.

HOWEVER, by the time the Senate votes in Sept, I won’t be surprised if a bunch of GOPers are privately praying that the DEMS block cloture so they don’t have to vote on the legislation 🙂

  14. August 13, 2015 at 7:26 pm

This important analysis by Patrick Smith was posted at TOD yesterday, but I’m quoting one segment in hopes that it will induce all TOD visitors to read it, in its entirety – it’s that important …

“Donald Trump’s biggest crime is his honesty: How he exposes the sickening rot at the core of the GOP”

“As may be plain, I assign the 2016 presidential contest a large psychological dimension. The policy positions will count, of course, and I will get to them, but what is most fundamentally at issue is the character of the American consciousness.

To strip the point to the simplest terms, we are in an argument between affect and thought, or between feeling and reason. We need to have it, but right-thinking people must recognize that we do not have much time to get it done.

To substitute affect for thought, as all G.O.P. candidates propose, is dangerous for two reasons. First and very practically, it almost inevitably produces bad results. Bush II’s invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq in the post-September 11 period are obvious but not isolated cases. The need was to look tough, to act without thinking, to declare “mission accomplished” on an aircraft carrier’s deck.

Second, affect is a dangerous appeal to the subconscious in us. It addresses unsayable fears, resentments and insecurities, and fortifies idealized selves, self-images derived from impossible Hollywood plots and characters. In this respect it is the doorway to irrational politics and behavior, especially in our conduct abroad.”

The last time I heard Al Gore say anything I liked was back in the early days of President Obama’s first term. A reporter asked him what advice he’d give the President. He said something like, “Oh, I’d hate to give him any advice, he’s doing such a great job.”

    Always appreciated hearing that.

The Republicans HATE the CFPB with the heat of 1,000 suns…. Banks and profits over people!!

Citizens Bank agreed to refund at least $14 million and pay $20.5 million in fines for shortchanging customers who made mistakes on their deposit slips, federal regulators said Wednesday. The bank engaged in “shoddy practices that deprived consumers of money that was rightfully theirs,” said Richard Cordray, director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. From January 2008 to September 2012, Citizens Bank investigated and fixed errors only if the discrepancy was more than $50. From October 2012 to November 2013, the bank lowered that threshold to $25. The failure to fix errors violated the bank’s own promise in account disclosures to verify deposits, Cordray said. “The bank chose to ignore these discrepancies and harmed many consumers by pocketing the difference,” said Cordray, whose agency was alerted to the problem by a whistle-blower. The action against Citizens Bank, a subsidiary of Citizens Financial Group Inc., was the first by the bureau related to illegal practices in deposit processing, Cordray said.

The other day, my mom brought me this book about FLOTUS (from 2009) – http://www.amazon.com/LIFE-Michelle-Obama-Portrait-First/dp/1603201033. I’ve been reading it and admiring the photos (even some ones I haven’t seen yet) and learning things! I thought I already knew all about her! But I need help with a cryptic sentence on page 41: “it is known that she had a boyfriend while at Princeton and another at Harvard. Both gentlemen, said to be impressive (the latter reportedly the son of a famous singer)…? Anybody know who this famous singer is? I think she did much better, ending up with the most famous man in the world – but I’m still nosy! 🙂

    glad to see the number of Yes Votes for the #IranDeal increasing;

however, we all should remember that as we come closer to elected officials taking the actual vote, then pressure from the Hell No side will increase and some of our Yes votes may chicken out.

so please keep up the pressure and the expression of appreciation to the Yes voters => only stop once the vote is taken and PBO is in position to sign it

“An Iraq Combat Vet Looks at the Iran Deal
5:55 PM ET By Michael Breen
I fought alongside men and women to prevent a Mideast dictator from obtaining WMD; this deal represents a better way.

Opponents of the Iran nuclear deal have offered much in the way of criticism but little in the way of alternatives. Military action, which would be more likely in the event that Congress rejects this agreement, would be a costly and short-term solution at best – and no one knows that better than the veterans who fought the last “three-month war” that lasted ten years.

If we walk away from the deal, our international sanctions regime will fall apart and Iran will get the best of both worlds: access to tens of billions of dollars and the opportunity to pursue a nuclear weapon free from scrutiny.

I fought alongside men and women who served with honor to prevent a Middle Eastern dictator from obtaining weapons of mass destruction: this deal represents a better way.

If Congress endorses this diplomatic victory, we will have stopped Iran’s nuclear program without risking American lives, while preserving the military option if they cheat in the future.”

    Hummmm…. http://www.kpho.com/story/29781660/dna-proves-president-harding-fathered-child-out-of-wedlock?autostart=true

Genetic analysis has proved that President Warren G. Harding fathered a child with long-rumored mistress Nan Britton, according to AncestryDNA, a DNA-testing division of Ancestry.com.

Britton set off a Jazz Age sex scandal when she went public with her tale of forbidden love in the White House, boldly publishing her story in a 1927 best-selling memoir, “The President’s Daughter.” But historians long questioned her claims, and Harding defenders vilified her as a liar for nearly 90 years.

Based on DNA from Britton’s grandson and descendants of Harding, the results are 99.9 percent certain, Ancestry.com said. The findings were first reported Thursday by The New York Times.

The child born of their union, Elizabeth Ann Blaesing, was the only known offspring of the 29th president. She died in 2005. Britton died in 1991.

James Blaesing, 65, who grew up hearing the story of his grandfather, the president, from Britton, his grandmother, told The Associated Press he long wanted to prove she was telling the truth. He was delighted by the DNA results.

Look how far back those “Republican Family Values” go!
