Thanks, Nena. PBO is right. I’d even venture to say he’d get a greater %age of the popular vote based on all he’s accomplished since lame duck’ started. 😀

Since, however, I’m often dancing off beat, I am going to add that I find MSM’s obsession with this line from his speech somewhat pathetic; predictable but pathetic. IMO a more principled or constructive media would have spent more space on the substance of this portion of his address, after all that’s important to Africa’s future.

another 35 years that’s quite a projection… My own .02 is that younger people will continue to be less and less religious as we move forward. I think this will spread as well to other areas other than the west.

as the president has said, young people should not be tied down by outmoded traditions. I see the restrictions placed by religions the world over as the big one.

I agree with you – where religion is restrictive to peoples lives, it will become less and less important. Over the past 1000 years “the state” has taken over many functions that used to be performed by the churches.

NOTHING CAN REPLACE CHRIST IN YOUR LIFE….HE IS THE ONE AND ONLY WAY TO SALVATION…RELIGION IS A DIRTY WORD BECAUSE MAN UNKIND HAS TAKEN OVER THAT TRANSLATION…BUT GOD DOES NOT CHANGE…HIS COMMANDS REMAIN AND HE MUST BE FIRST IN OUR LIVES IN ORDER TO OBTAIN SALVATION. THESE ARE THE DAYS WHEN TRICKSTERS AND DEMONS WILL TRY TO TAKE HIS PLACE…CAN’T BE DONE. HE IS THE ONLY ANSWER AND HE IS IN COMPLETE CONTROL OF OUR FUTURE…HIS KINGDOM WILL RULE AND HE HAS THE LAST WORD!

Desertflower, thank you for this heartbreaking article. I agree with every word.

about Trump and his use of language. thought this was a good way ot looking at it, from BJ:

    boatboy_srq says:

    July 28, 2015 at 2:23 pm

The flipside of that is what’s telling. Trump isn’t afraid to skip the dogwhistle and go straight for the meaty insulting term; what we’re seeing on the other side is horror that a) someone would be honest about the xenophobia, racism, sexism, etc etc and b) having someone be that honest shows the rest up as at one just as bigoted – but embarrassed about it and trying to cover it up.

They’re realizing that Trump is blowing the lid off Atwater’s way of getting around saying unacceptable things; and that contrary to Atwater’s original thinking, “niCLANG niCLANG” is still an effective way to reach a not-insignificant portion of the electorate. So the people using dogwhistle are being made to look just as bad to anyone who was mollified by the dogwhistle even a few months ago, and the people who tolerated the dogwhistle as a means to get their racist sexist anti-Otherist way are running to the guy who doesn’t bother with the code words. Trump may spell the end of the Southern Strategy and its abuse of language.

For those who are interested, here is the WH’s response to the petition for Edward Snowden. (I apologize if this has already been posted).

These two paragraphs in particular stick out:

// …Instead of constructively addressing these issues, Mr. Snowden’s dangerous decision to steal and disclose classified information had severe consequences for the security of our country and the people who work day in and day out to protect it.

If he felt his actions were consistent with civil disobedience, then he should do what those who have taken issue with their own government do: Challenge it, speak out, engage in a constructive act of protest, and — importantly — accept the consequences of his actions. He should come home to the United States, and be judged by a jury of his peers — not hide behind the cover of an authoritarian regime. Right now, he’s running away from the consequences of his actions… //

PBO and his Administration right on target here.
See today’s news about another traitor Jonathan Pollard.

He not only has served every day of his 30 year sentence, his parole, having been granted, includes him serving the 5 year parole period in NYC.

Not going home to a hero’s welcome in Israel. Bibi loses this round, too. PBO can grant Pollard release at any time, or never.

You have to laugh at RW when they picture PBO as weak or naive. He beats them at their own games every single time.

        July 28, 2015 at 4:55 pm

NY Times is not divulging that Pollard has to serve his 5 years of parole in USA.

They are desperate to hang on to the entirely false notion that the US and PBO have something to be sorry for that entails soothing Bibi. They want us to think Bibi has been thrown a bone. I’m not kidding. That is the expression around the info universe. In truth, nothing has been given. PBO holds all the cards.

No mystery why the people in our country can be so easily misled. we have been fed a steady diet of lies and 1/2 truths.

Funny that – rather like Roe v. Wade and the health care debate – if the RW do not like the result they will try from now until forever to get it reversed. Happens with RW governments all over the world.

If you Google Trans-Canada lobbyist Hillary Clinton
You will see news from June, 2015 and as far back as 2011 with the links you need to understand her positions today.

In a nutshell, Trans-Canada—the company behind Keystone has one of their lobbyists in the Clinton campaign leadership right now.

Isn’t it true that Pedesta(sp) one of the most anti-keystone is practically the main person at the helm of HRC Campaign?
I don’t know who is advising HRC that keeping quite or saying that she couldn’t weigh in is doing her any favors. I don’t know why she is doing this……and once again, giving those who would like to tear her apart to have the Open Season on her and her character. HRC is a creature of self-preservation. At 68 yrs almost, it is is hard to Learn New Tricks.
The more she does silly things like this, the more she gives Sanders a huge edge.
VPOTUS isn’t running. HRC is once again making idiotic mistakes.

The real reason conservatives want to do away with Medicare has always been political: It’s the very idea of the government providing a universal safety net that they hate, and they hate it even more when such programs are successful.

Professor Krugman has a polite way of putting it.
My take is that the GOP wants all the money for themselves and would like to turn the rest of us upside down in order to shake the last penny from our pockets.
Their dream is winner take all.

Same as mentioned above – if they don’t like something – they will try for ever and ever to get it reversed – “let it go and move on with your life” is not in the GOP handbook – this is why gun control in the US will be a never ending issue.

    Lord of the Flies 😀 😀 😀 😀

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) has filed a motion to try to force Speaker John Boehner from his leadership post. The move, called a motion to vacate the chair, represents a new level of opposition to GOP leadership from the conservative wing of the House Republican Conference. The motion can be postponed for several days before consideration. The resolution was filed late Tuesday afternoon, just one day before the House was slated to depart for its summer recess. The resolution states that Boehner has tried to “consolidate power and centralize decision-making, bypassing the majority of the 435 members of Congress and the people they represent.” It accuses the speaker of using the “legislative calendar to create crises for the American people, in order to compel members to vote for legislation.” The resolution also blasts Boehner of using the Rules Committee to limit amendments.

    • July 28, 2015 at 6:57 pm

      And it’s a totally chickenshit nothing-burger:

Sources say Meadows will circulate a so-called discharge petition to force a vote on the motion. But if he wanted a vote in the next two legislative days, he could simply stand up and ask for one. If he did that, the motion would be considered “privileged,” which would make it the immediate business of the House. In its current form, Meadows’ motion is simply a statement of opposition to Boehner.

Obama Administration Works on Both the Front and Back End of Criminal Justice Reform

    // ……………………………………
It’s important to note that while Deputy AG Yates is focused almost exclusively on ensuring that front-end changes are included in any criminal justice reform legislation, the Obama administration is not ignoring back-end reforms. For example, the ongoing work of the Clemency Initiative that has already commuted the sentences of 89 prisoners is an example of back-end changes.

Josh Mitchell and Joe Palazzolo report that the Obama administration is about to announce another back-end reform.
