‘In the summer of 2012, Walzer was preparing for his junior year of high school. Like many kids his age, his thoughts increasingly turned to college, with a blend of excitement and anxiety. His greatest concern? The ability to tie and untie his shoes. Walzer was born two months premature, weighing only two pounds, 14 ounces, with under-developed lungs that led to Cerebral Palsy. He overcame many of the physical limitations doctors predicted for him, but tying his shoes remained a challenge, as he only has flexibility in one hand. Being a college freshman is daunting enough, but the thought of having to rely on others to tie his shoes prompted Walzer to write Nike: “My dream is to go to the college of my choice without having to worry about someone coming to tie my shoes every day. I’ve worn Nike basketball shoes all my life. I can only wear this type of shoe, because I need ankle support to walk. At 16 years old, I am able to completely dress myself, but my parents still have to tie my shoes. As a teenager who is striving to become totally self-sufficient, I find this extremely frustrating and, at times, embarrassing.”..

..FLYEASE introduces a wrap-around zipper solution that opens the back of the shoe near the heel-counter, making it easier to slide the foot in and out. At the same time, the system provides sufficient lockdown and eliminates the need to tie traditional laces. Walzer’s dreams of going to college and putting on his own shoes have been achieved. He is now a sophomore at Florida Gulf Coast University and is wearing his custom Zoom Soldier 8 FLYEASE kicks all over campus. What’s more, Walzer was able to meet his basketball hero, who returned the teenager’s admiration…“Matthew inspired us at Nike to be able to bring something special that will not only be for himself but also for the masses,” asserts LeBron. “The shoe and the inspiration he gave us is going to go way beyond Nike, Matthew and myself. I am very honored and blessed that my shoe is part of the whole process. This is an unbelievable story, and Nike has done a great job of being able to create something that’s so incredible and will last a lifetime.” As Lebron notes, the vision Hatfield brought to life was never intended for just one athlete. “There is a real need for a solution like this and it feels good to be a part of something that is going to help so many people. Like the asterisk accompanying Nike’s mission statement says, ‘If you have a body, you’re an athlete.’ That means everybody and we never forget that,” adds Hatfield…continue’

    • July 26, 2015 at 5:07 pm

Really hope this comment is liberated soon. Want to be sure all of you see Cruz doing a Jeff Davis on McConnell and the ‘establishment’ GOP!! He’ll make a fine VP candidate on the Trump 2016 (GOP or Independent) ticket!

      • 28 jackiegrumbacher
        July 26, 2015 at 5:21 pm

I wonder what the consequences of this tirade will be for Cruz. He’s shown without any doubt that he can’t function in the give and take of the Senate. He’s a spoiled little boy who will have his way or throw a very public tantrum. He’s also shown that he’s completely unfit for leadership of any kind. If the Republicans had any coherence as a party or an ounce of foresight, they would quietly work to undermine this volatile creature at every turn. There are ways to do this and a smart leader, which McConnell probably is not, could exact slow and tortuous revenge. If Cruz is allowed to get away with this, a very bad precedent has been set within the GOP caucus. It would be fun to spend the next year watching R senators fight each other, especially if they try to outdo each other in nastiness.

        • July 26, 2015 at 5:57 pm

my concern about is that this represents a continued breakdown in the chamber of the Senate….McConnell himself led the team in 2009 in which the official policy of the GOP was Obstruction and malfunction…..

this latest mishap in Senate only creates disgust among the citizenry…esp when you have the press touting every distortion that they can without telling it like it really is…

a disgusted citizenry is a cynical citizenry that begins to believe that it is not worth voting or being involved….to me this is the greatest danger of a Trump….and his cohorts of extremism… and not too inspiring candidates on the DEM side….

          • July 26, 2015 at 6:18 pm

I share your concerns, pf58, however, for me we are steadily moving toward a major inflection in American politics and I’m more and more encouraged by millennials, as well as, broader demographics of the awareness that their participation in the outcome is essential.

McCain v Obama and Romney v Obama represented campaigns of considerable differences in values and perspectives, for sure.

But, a campaign of Trump v Biden or even Trump v HRC would be so stark and totally motivating for the ~ 70 % of Americans who are not certifiably nuts —> to participate in landslide removal of GOP from the House, the Senate, and lots of State Governments, as well as protecting the WH.

And, if the GOP candidate to emerge from their primary is not Trump, whomever it is will have managed to be even more alienating and vile in the eyes of that ~ 70 %, plus, Trump will run as an Independent and wreck the GOP to an extent it likely, even on the State level, will not survive.

2016 will be seismic, we’re already experiencing considerable tremors ….

    GA TODville.

Stupendous round-the-clock coverage of President Obama in Kenya and Ethiopia.

Thanks so much, Chips and NW!

Donald Trump has succeeded in ratching up the crazy in the GOP, infuriatingly against the most generous, empathetic, kind-hearted President of the modern era.

Agree with Bob, this is just the beginning of GOP outright warfare, so Dems get out of the way for their implosion.

Good news on the domestic front:

And here’s a reality check from @VP’s recent trip to California. You’ll love our man Joe even more after reading this article:

    • July 26, 2015 at 5:37 pm

Thank you, Arapaho, for alerting all of us to Cathleen Decker’s fine article on @VP Biden!

I’ve RT’d her Tweet and a couple of other Tweets (see sidebar) that reflect how important a read it is.

      • July 26, 2015 at 5:39 pm

        Just a taste … 🙂

“The presidential campaign seemed consumed last week by Trumpian madness.

As many in his party looked on in horror, Donald Trump flung tart criticisms of fellow Republicans, denounced illegal immigration and reviled the abject failure, as he sees it, of everything touched by politicians from both parties.

        clip

And then, in California, came reality itself.

It arrived in a quiet interlude toward the beginning of a speech at a manufacturing plant in North Hollywood by Vice President Joe Biden, some of whose friends are holding out hope that he will join the Democratic presidential race.”

        ibid.

I am awed by the TOD coverage of POTUS in Kenya and now Ethiopia. He is loved wherever he goes.

On Bob’s, jackieg’s and prettyfoot’s discussion about Cruz and the GOP implosion, I am closest to pf’s take.

I see the GOP’s goal since January, 2009, as one of total destruction of our government and in a way, our country.
PBO was the most obvious target but if you take into account All the evidence—random comments demeaning the Supreme Court, for example, it is not hard to see that this is about more than winning the WH.

The GOP controls the Senate and still Ted Cruz is aiming for its destruction.
    Something wicked this way comes…….
