Great interview. I like how at one point, the interviewer kept going on and on about Hillary, when Auma tried to refocus the convo about Kenya and Kenyan girls’ views of women in Kenyan politics.

Oh Lovely Plains! This is so cool! I usually avoid CNN like the plague, but I really enjoyed this (although, that Hilary line of questioning was truly idiotic). It was cool to see PBO’s smile break out across Auma’s face. I see so much of his mother’s features in the President’s face and have had a difficult time seeing much of his father’s features. Maybe this is because all the images of his father that I have seen have been still ones and by seeing his sister in live action, the resemblance to that side is more apparent. What a lovely woman!

      GA Meta.

Love all WWW, but this one was especially rewarding. Loved the segment on @DrBiden in Asia and @VP standing next to PBO at the ADA anniversary event.

Couldn’t help but think when @DrBiden and @VP were on that she is so deserving of being @FLOTUS. Also couldn’t help thinking how great it would be if during the Biden Adm. if Michelle Obama joined her on an overseas trip to help promote whatever public service Michelle is doing at that time.

Think you’ve got ties to Santa Cruz, and @RepSamFarr hits the nail on the head:

      • July 24, 2015 at 6:05 pm

Yes, I’d seen that tweet earlier.

I love the featuring of Dr. Biden’s trip in WWW. It’s really beautiful and she clearly connected with the people so well.

Meta, I particularly the fact that Dr. Biden’s inclusion in WWW had some substance to it. I do believe the Bidens’ campaign started a while back – it’s bold, while at the same time it’s low-key. 😀

        • July 24, 2015 at 7:33 pm

This may seem like an ignorant question but since her speech sounds very normal she probably became deaf later in life? I find her spirit astonishing. Being blind AND deaf for me would be one of the most terrible things to imagine getting along with.

    http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2015/07/24/3683935/citing-religious-freedom-native-americans-fight-take-back-sacred-land-mining-companies/

A proposed site for a massive copper mining project spearheaded by Resolution Copper, an organization run by two multinational corporations based in the United Kingdom and Australia.
The aggressive mining operation resulted from a last-minute addition to the National Defense Authorization Act, a “must-pass” military spending bill pushed through in December 2014. The language, which was inserted at the 11th hour by Arizona Senators John McCain (R) and Jeff Flake (R), essentially traded Resolution 2,400 acres of Arizona (including Oak Flat) in exchange for 5,300 acres of private land they already own. The swap is believed to be one of the first instances of federal land being given to a foreign corporation.

Arizona’s Native American population was outraged by the deal, having fought against several efforts by Republicans in Congress to broker similar agreements over the years. Some locals have argued that the land grab shortchanges American taxpayers, since profits will go primarily to companies rooted outside the United States. In addition, environmentalists and the Apache people have repeatedly expressed fears that, since the mining industry is often exempt from portions of environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act, the invasive copper mining project could damage the area’s water — a resource many Native Americans claim a spiritual obligation to protect.

Our state senators working really hard for those foreign corporations….

This story about PBO somehow giving Israel something is entirely bogus as far as I can tell.

GOP/AIPAC desperate for something to talk about. I hear they are planning to spend 40 million on their absurd campaign to defeat Iran Deal or somehow, someway revive Bibi’s bravado. Naturally, attempting to smear POTUS is their #1 horrible, terrible, very bad, no good idea.

Thank you Nerdy for this lovely post! Also thank you for honoring me by using my words in your post a few days ago.

I was watching a Nightly show piece on the “All Lives Matter” thing last night and it occurred to me that responding to “Black Lives Matter” with “All Lives Matter” gets it so backwards. Reminding people that “black lives matter” is actually a needed response to the supposed axiom that “all lives matter” because, unfortunately, too often those with black skin do not get included in the idea of “all lives”; that’s the point.

                      Civic assignment?
Not quite, now, they´re spread across the year some more. Six and a half weeks in summer (but the beginning can vary from year to hear, earlierst is late June, latest late July, this time we were early), then two weeks in autum, two weeks around Christmas / New Year´s and the week before and after Easter.

It relates to governing, etc on a ‘local’ level, I guess. However, I was stretching it a bit as I remembered some discussion we had about an assignment on US that you had given the students – one in which they had a debate about the US election? I can’t remember the exact details; I just have a vague memory we had an ongoing discussion, you and I. 😀
