Hello, again Chips and TOD
Hey Vicki
I don’t think she (or he) likes the ‘half’ label, CC.
But she is his half-sister, not a full one 🙂
You know. I know. I’m remembering her response to the interviewer in the video LP shared though. Also, too, I can’t remember him referring to her, or Maya, as his ‘half-sister’.
I’m not surprised PBO doesn’t refer to her as a half-sister, that would sound disrespectful, but it’s what she is. I don’t think there’s a problem with the title, it’s just factual.
No worries, CC. No problem either. 😀 As I said, it only stayed in my memory because of the convo on the video.
When Auma did that interview with CNN she said that they don’t use that half brother, half sister stuff, they are brother and sister.
Fast feet theer Vicki! Congrats!
Congrats Vicki. Hiya Ms. Chips and all TODers. Thank you Ms. Chips for this coverage. I am just able to sit down at the computer. I hope I can go back and see everything that I missed!
Vicki! Loving this travelogue in Africa.
That Embrace is just Perfect. It brings Tears of Joy to my eyes.
I ❤ it so 😉
Congrats Vicki on your Solid Au ⭐
Oh My Goodness……..I remember now…..it was in his book: Dreams From My Father……thanks BWD 😎
President Obama has a nice looking sister.
Very smart too! 🙂
http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2000170291/michelle-obama-juggle-her-roles-with-poise-and-grace
She is so proud of her brother, you can see that.
Her half-brother, you mean? 🙂
The Sibling has spoken 🙂 😉
She would……. 🙂
Yes half-brother 🙂
Karibu Kenya—-Not to be confused with Caribou Barbie
This probably wins for least relevant remark
Not even close.
Is Jomo any good? (I don’t know these guys.)
Jomo is the son of the Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta and is in the center of that picture.
He’s named after his grandfather, Jomo Kenyatta, who was the first president of Kenya after it gained Independence from the British in 1963.
I don’t know much about the son, but the father (and his late grandfather),a s to whether they’re are good,….let’s just say it’s complicated.
Thank you so much for this response, CBO – things make so much more sense when one has a little bit of the background. Of course, with this info – and knowing nothing about their governing styles – my first instinct is to say I hope it doesn’t become a shot of three presidents. I’m not into dynasties; IMO they tend to become more corrupt the longer they last!
That’s what the Tweet was hinting at (a sort of Bush-like thing we have over here).
Which doesn’t sit any better with Kenyans than having a third Bush as president sits with Americans.
The fact that Uhuru (the current president) became president at all, is controversial in and of itself and almost tore the country apart back in 2007 when it happened.
Frankly speaking, that’s a very tasteless tweet in light of what happened in those elections.
See what happens when you don’t have background! 😦
So this Tamima person is either a Kenyatta supporter or is being satirical? Well, I’ll leave it there while pleading ignorance.
She’s clearly a Kenyatta supporter, and like I said, it’s a tasteless (and politically partisan) tweet, which seemingly seems to want to politicize President Obama’s visit.
They should be grateful that he’s making the visit at all since he – President Kenyatta – was the reason Obama couldn’t visit Kenya during most of his first 5 years of presidency thanks to the (then) pending ICC charges of crimes against human rights hanging over his head from those controversial 2007 elections that saw quite a few Kenyans die and he was implicated in their deaths.
They think it’s a monarchy.
As is the case with most post-colonial leadership.
Jomo Kenyatta led the (Mau Mau) uprising against British rule and was the first democratically elected President of Kenya.
His grand nephew is the Great rock guitarist Tom Morello who was part of Rage Against The Machine and now seen with Bruce Springsteen , at Rock and Roll halls of Fame, at the Grammys and at other events.
Also, first democratically elected president—not only in Kenya, but in Africa. A giant in revolutionary history.
He was a bit of a controversial figure himself, despite that reputation.
Yes. But a successful revolutionary who will be remembered and respected for a very long time.
‘Interesting’ differences too. 😉
No disrespect to the Kenya First Lady, but our First Lady look like she was born 1984.
She does. FLOTUS is drop dead gorgeous. It’s the melanin. She has more melanin than the Kenyan First Lady, which always makes you look 10 to 20 years younger. I know this from experience. When I did a psychological for a county position, the doctor was 38 like me. She kept looking at me then my file and then back at me. Finally, she asked me to verify my date of birth. She then said we’re the same age and you look like you’re in your early twenties. I told her people say that a lot but it’s just the melanin.
Agreed!!
I was agreeing on FLOTUS’ young face. Don’t know if melanin is why.
Shallow OT: Love FLOTUS’ tweed suit.
Isn’t it gorgeous. It’s one of my top 10 FLOTUS outfits 🙂
The most astonishing FLOTUS in history!
Dr. Biden also has a great flair for clothes.
I love shallow. Alicia Florrick The Good Wife wore the same suit in one of the episodes.
But FLOTUS wins for rocking the outfit.
Oh, yeah. Now I remember that.
I think the Kenyan 1st Lady is also beautiful.
Our little brother is coming home and we are over the moon. So nice, so nice.
The female image consultant on Kenyan TV says PBO has his hair dyed just right and it doesn’t look fake. LOLz!
As opposed to the dumb people in Congress!!
🙂 Which was implied – rather than said outright – smart man
Another Pete Souza ‘drop’? 🙂 🙂 🙂
LOL – this pic has been my Twitter wall paper since 2013! 🙂
😀 That one’s o-kay, but I ❤ this view far more!
WOOOOT!!
Meta, you rock!
No, YOU rock!
Draft Biden 2016
JER—You are the best! This just showed up in my e-mail and I was about to ask someone to Please post it.
What I like is that it is clear. VPB/PBO so close—-couldn’t be clearer.
You like what POTUS has been doing for our country? Vote for JOE!!!!!
I love it.
OH I love this, I’m definitely riding w/ Biden too 🙂 🙂
That’s a fab ad
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!!! GREAT job, Draft Biden!!
Just sayin….
Do NOT tempt me Donna!!!! In one hour I’d be commenting like this: gdfgouf xgiuy2 uigdqpug hic.
Go For It. I sure plan too!!! 😉
You are EVIIIIIIIIIL ….. damn it, that looks delicious!!! 😥
I had ice and hot dogs on their “National Day” I’ll pass on Tequila. Plus my friend GGail is a tee-todiler.
😉
Thanks Donna. My drink of choice is Tequila, when I partake. I have a bottle of Patron in the freezer. I take mine straight with lime and salt on the side. 🙂
Oh Meta!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOLz. TYVM, Donna!!
Is it National Peaches n Cream cake day? 🙂
It Can Be….We Declare It…. Doesn’t that look delicious!!!!

Just In at CNN, @POTUS is having late Supper with his Family Members in Kenya……….now 😉
I can’t wait to see Pete’s Pictures……..Anticipation is making me wait 😉
Calling on Birthers to self Implode 🙂
I so understand that – when I visited the UK I felt like it was home – being my ancestral home, it was coming back to where it all started
What a treat it is to watch this!! Makes my day. I loved how those standing by breathed an “ohhhhhhh” sigh when he hugged his sister. 😃😃😃😃
Wow, Nena, thanks – that was absolutely great.
I suppose the-language-that-I-couldn’t-understand was Swahili ?
I love-love-love the girl how gave him the flowers; and she now has a selfie that she didn’t have to do herself 🙂
Africa – A Powerful Continent !
Great news on the health front which is very important to Africa and other people who live in the tropics. A malaria vaccine has been approved by the EU regulatory authorities. For us who have lived and/or those who live in these communities where malaria devastates many lives, the news of this vaccine is really huge
This will impact millions!
Wow!
Thank you!
That’s an awsome photomontage.
They were in their 20’s in the first one – students, meeting for the first time in Chicago, – and now 30 years later almost the same embrace but a whole world of difference in circumstances.
This is both inspirational and heartbreaking, all at the same time.
❤ It, Chips. I don't know how you do it……but You, Lady, Know how to get It Done! Brava!
As far as I’m concerned President Obama never lost his groove.
agree the press never had a groove to lose.
Wha-at? I have absolutely *no* memory of having posted this!!! I usually post this here on Sundays, AFTER I’ve tweeted it! This being here under my name makes no sense to me. Done within the last hour too! Come on now, who hacked my account? ❓ 😮
You’re losing it.
Sigh…. that’s likely it, Theo! I *still* don’t get this one. I have no memory of coming near the village with this, much less posting it.
Too much going on, probably.
That’s a compassionate way to look at it. 😀 😀 Thank you.
I don’t know how you’re still awake – my eyes are rolling. But, I’ll suffer for the President…
It’s because I still sleep in 1-2 hour intervals. Can’t seem to help it so I roll with it. Are you listening to Kenyatta?
Yes – just saw him mention that Kenya is a “hotbed” of blah, blah, blah. Subtle (not so subtle) dig at CNN.
Come on over to the current post.
Smart…but this is an old issue:)
