    Hello, TOD!

I see across the board everyone is freaking out that Bernie called Obamacare a modest improvement. He seems insane if that is what he actually thinks.
Or maybe he doesn’t know of anyone who died for lack of healthcare. I have. Perhaps Sen. Sanders has led a more privileged life than most of us.

Obamacare is a life-saving roaring success. Time for Bernie to STFU and STFU. On Obamacare, for starters.

Thank you, Vicki I was furious.

We can improve ACA of course, and we should. But for Democratic (who is not a Democrat) to not call this bill the historic achievement it is, shows a pettiness and zealot purity that is dangerous.

Bernie is on my last nerve.

Congratulations SUE! 🙂 Good afternoon ToDville. Linda mentioned Barbara Boxer signing onto a bill that will cut SS and disability on the last thread. Is this the transportation bill? Grhhhhh! Dang repubs, and blue dems will never take away some of the bill oil tax breaks!! We need infrastructure NOW, and how will we take care of all the damage to come from climate, and when will we spend on R&D (especially for climate change) issues? It is just UNREAL how much we have our head up our butts on so many of these important issues.
How can we not be jumping for joy at the chance of constricting Iran’s nuclear program without WAR. We can’t afford all of these international conflicts, let alone war for another decade.

BTW, they did a medical evaluation on her in the three days she was incarcerated …. (for a lane change)??!!! And from that 1st video I saw, she didn’t strike me as someone who would willingly answer these questions under the circumstances. This is all very perplexing.

          GE VC.

It’s worse than that, I think.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m skeptical by nature and don’t like to leap to conclusions, but since the death of Eric Garner, these are two beliefs I have until proven wrong.

          1) KKK actively assisted Ferguson PD in learning how to assemble Molotov cocktails and the like during the police siege last summer.

          2) Sandra Bland’s death may be even more insidious than Walter Scott’s. He was shot in the back by a police officer, which is murder during the heat of passion, but I think it’s likely that Sandra’s death was premeditated after the trooper was humiliated by Sandra Bland.

Heard on the radio this once afternoon (but haven’t heard since) that Sandra’s sister believes that the trooper was “hitting on” her sister.

Who really knows, Arapaho? I’m uneasy and, if you want to know the truth, ‘scared’. Honestly, at the moment I cannot think of anywhere in the States that I would feel comfortable visiting. I keep thinking that with the number of publicized cases of suspicious death by police the officers would be more cautious in these confrontations but it seems like there is a new case weekly, if not daily.

              July 22, 2015 at 9:09 pm

Of course it’s just a hunch on my part — and my hunches are rarely right — but IMO the trooper panicked, realizing that what he did was wrong, and he didn’t want any witnesses (outside of domestic disputes, the primary reason for the murder of strangers).

                July 22, 2015 at 9:23 pm

O, I’m not discounting your feelings, Arapaho. In all of these cases though, I’m trying not to speculate – being murdered, or dying, because you made an error in the eyes of the police is too much for me to make sense of, especially when it happens so frequently. Don’t officers know what’s been going on across the country with all these public and inexplicable deaths? Don’t they know they are under greater scrutiny and do they simply not care?

Don’t mind me; I’ve been so gobsmacked (from the Mike Brown case and the shocking final verdict) that I rarely join in the discussion anymore when another case surfaces. The fact that they’re so frequent, so rarely resolved with justice, and remind me so much of who I am make it hard for me to be rational.

So much shadiness…at least we now know there was indeed a discrepancy.

          • 58 vcprezofan2
            July 22, 2015 at 10:14 pm

A worry I have in these cases is how much time the police department have to doctor the evidence. Even if cases eventually get to federal investigations, I believe much tampering and fixing go on before the Feds arrive. As far as I’m concerned this happened in the Mike Brown case where that police officer was hidden for so long he could have done a world tour for all we know. IMO social media in its outrage points out areas of concern and the PD in question prepares rationalizations and explanations.

For example, today’s arguments pointed out the glitches in the uploaded video, highlighting specific looped areas, and the PD later uploads a newer shorter version. I haven’t looked at the ‘new’ tape but I’d bet the loops etc are no longer in evidence! We talk about the discrepancy in the medical health form, get no immediate answer, but will no doubt get a reasonable explanation down the road .By the time the case gets to an outside review there might even be a conveniently discovered video of Sandra tying the garbage bag around her own neck, and a suicide note which had been overlooked in the bottom of the garbage bin found in the cell (where she had conveniently dropped it after taking out the garbage bag)!!

            • July 22, 2015 at 10:29 pm

I posted the new *tape* up thread…it is 3 minutes shorter. They already doctored the dash cam…I’m sure the same goes for the supposed jail video (which according to reports, the portion released was only 8 minutes long) …some law officer on T.V. today said that they are only triggered by motion sensors to save date storage, but I’m not buying it. Finally…the jail cell was contaminated from the get go…they added a ‘new’ trash bag & today some reporter said there was now a bible in there. I have no faith in what is going on down there.

Sandra used pills to attempt suicide,a suicide plan that’s very very different from using hanging which is extremely painful and slow with full awareness. Using pills means you just want to go to sleep check out of your misery by drifting into unconsciousness. I think she was murdered.

Yeah, he’ll probably win Iowa but he doesn’t stand a chance of picking up the necessary delegates. And if VP Joe gets in, he may not even win Iowa.

He is not polling close to Hillary. The press is hyping him to make it seem like a contest and to trash Hillary who has been running on President Obama’s success and promising to build on it and contrasting Democratic policies with the failures of the GOP. Sanders meanwhile is running against POTUS.

It’s just sickening Chips. I’ve practically reached my peak of frustration with this whole thing. “How dare he say something mean to me…I’ll crack you with my baton and beat the crap out of you.” Today’s police officers have zero tolerance. Sigh!!!

        • July 22, 2015 at 9:21 pm

It’s relentless Donna, I’m losing count of all the new cases, another black women found hanged in her cell the other day having been arrested for allegedly stealing a phone. And it barely gets a mention. I just don’t know anymore.

        • July 22, 2015 at 9:25 pm

And what is obvious is that this is becoming a horrific vicious cycle. The more they violate people’s civil rights, the more people feel real tangible fear and will feel they need to resist arrest. Why can’t police departments see the harm they are doing to the public trust? Do they need to have it nailed to their forehead?

        • July 23, 2015 at 5:41 am

they have zero tolerance for blk folks…plenty of tolerance when they are apprehending ARMED white bikers….

Y’know, I really wish men would butt the Hell out when it comes to something they know NOTHING about.

Because of women’s monthly cycles, they have a much greater need for “women’s” health services than men do for routine health care. Planned Parenthood is NOT all about abortion.

Any of you able to see clearly enough to spot any of the things this person mentions?

Rodriguez v. United States held that police could not extend the length of a routine traffic stop, even for just a few minutes, absent a safety related concern or reasonable suspicion to believe that the driver may have committed an additional crime. As Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg explained in the opinion of the Court, “[t]he tolerable duration of police inquiries in the traffic-stop context is determined by the seizure’s ‘mission’ — to address the traffic violation that warranted the stop, and attend to related safety concerns.” A police stop “may ‘last no longer than is necessary to effectuate th[at] purpose.’ Authority for the seizure thus ends when tasks tied to the traffic infraction are — or reasonably should have been — completed.”
