Morning. We’ve got a county fair coming up this weekend and it falls to Mr. G and me to set up the booth in a razzle dazzle way to attract attention and voter registrations. We’ll have 600 lollipops stashed at the booth to lure the kids, so I guess we’ll also be promoting tooth decay and dental bills. Oh well, whatever it takes.

God help us. Everybody, for sanity’s sake, turn off the tv! Read a book, look out the window, actually talk to somebody, but don’t waste a nanosecond of your life watching a political ad or, worse yet, listening to a pundit.

In India, teevee political ads have zero value. Pols still hustle for votes in open to public meetings and door to door campaigns. Normally campaigns do not exceed two months max and since there are official polling dates, which are fixed by the election commission, we are spared all the noise. But those two months, the noise our pols make will reach the moon pluto.

Still, AMK, two months are endurable. Two years are obscene! We’ve been obsessing over the next presidential election since PBO was re-elected and now it’s nonstop. It’s absolutely intolerable!

    GM TODville.

As usual, behind at TOD — I’m sure there must have been discussion here about #SandraBland yesterday, but now that I’ve seen video provided by the Guardian, am so appalled that this happened.

The trooper returns to her car after presumably writing the idiotic ticket for changing lanes without signaling.
    1) How many (white) people would be let go with a warning?
    2) Getting a ticket is upsetting — don’t know about other states, but fines for moving violations in CA are huge — in the hundreds of dollars. Not surprising at all that she smokes a cigarette to calm her nerves — I’m sure this trooper has seen this behavior countless times.
    3) When he returns he says “You seem very irritated.” Well, duh. Again, he has seen this behavior more times than he could possibly remember.

We have all been shocked by the coldblooded murder of Walter Scott in North Charleston — and while the trooper did not pull the trigger on a weapon at #SandraBland, it was clearly his intent to escalate (beyond belief) a situation that anyone who drives and has gotten pulled over for some alleged infraction can relate to.

And this annoyed me no end.

Have I mentioned before how much I loathe MSM (rhetorical question)? (To @cbsradionews’ credit, their lead national story this morning was about the apparently edited DPS (Texas Department of Public Safety) video released yesterday.)

Given how the lass was treated – “irritated” would be mild – I feel much more strongly simply reading about the encounter. This is no “bad egg” this is the police.

As for wanting the Federal investigation – guess they think they have sorted out the followup, destroyed any evidence and there is nothing left to investigate.

I watched PBO with Jon Stewart last night and I can’t think of a single word Jon said that was mildly interesting or improved the interview. It would have been a funnier and better 1/2 hour If President Obama had the mic to himself.
Jon seemed old, very old, and tired. He really is done.
Our President, on the other hand—full of beans, vibrant and clearly enjoying his last 18 months at the wheel.

    • July 22, 2015 at 9:42 am

Haahahaaaa! Nobody can hold a candle to our POTUS. Glad Stewart is leaving TV. He’s been too full of himself for years. I’ll never forget his bogus “civility” rally that took away from our efforts to GOTV. What a joke.

      • July 22, 2015 at 10:02 am

I came away watching the show last night, thinking POTUS could have done the show right by himself. Give him the time to make his statement, no need of Jon Stewart to be on the stage.

This whole situation stinks to high heaven and the FBI investigation had better produce some answers and TANGIBLE results. Someone (or some people) needs to be put behind bars. Too many cases of Black people losing their lives for doing nothing illegal while corrupt cops walk free with the full support of a corrupt system.

And so-called “Democratic” politicians want to turn a blind eye with their “it’s all about jobs and Wall Street” or “all lives matter” shtick. They can fuck the hell off with that….

      • 43 arapaho415
        July 22, 2015 at 9:11 am

I’ve been in a constant state of appallment (not a word, but can’t think of the correct one now) since Eric Garner.

Choke hold for selling a single cigarette? WTF – how can such a petty “crime” warrant physical assault and arrest? For the poor, it’s not a crime, it’s a service (I know, it’s bad to smoke, but still, from their POV, it’s a service.)

And now this? #SandraBland should never have been arrested, let alone physically assaulted.

50 years later, the sins exposed in “In the Heat of the Night” are being exposed (saw 50 years ago, but can’t remember the details [have a terrible memory for films] but the scenario painted in that film HAVE NOT changed in half a century, perhaps are worse now because of trigger-happy cops and conspiratorial jail staff).

Don’t think they have a chance – the evidence is gone, the reports written, the stories correlated before the feds get anywhere near the investigation.

              July 22, 2015 at 10:02 am

Cause there still seems to be the idea somewhere that they are better than the local police.

IF the Fed investigation of bridgegate ends with a charge against the governor, I might believe there is a point to fed investigations – otherwise – waste of time and money.

        • July 22, 2015 at 9:45 am

The chain of custody of these tapes is never preserved. The feds can only step in when they can prove they are warranted. By then, all the stories have been fabricated in unison. It’s a RACKET.

HF, the standards have to change! Police officers have to begin receiving stiff sentences for lives lost. Unless someone deliberately aims a gun at a police officer and threatens his/her life, there is no excuse for violent behavior toward civilians. NONE!

Yep, she sure wasn’t or shed be alive today. Anyway folks, I try to keep up but I cant, I am three days behind you. Went to DC to visit my President he came to NY, just my luck. DC was hot but I enjoyed the museums, saw the Jason Wu dress at the museum, gorgeous! Then I took a picture beside a portrait of the President and his wife. Went to Lincoln Memorial, laid under a tree, it was too hot and crowded.

Oh my God! And is that Texas DA going to tell us who on this earth is a model person and why that
is even relative to the murder of a young woman in a jail cell. So anytime a policeman decides that someone is not a model person he/she has the right to execute them without trial? Is that what this country has become? We have to have an exemplary background and demonstrate model behavior not to be summarily murdered??? Or does that standard only apply to black people? I hope someone calls for the dismissal of that DA and pushes for disbarment.

        http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-eric-holder-20150227-story.html

Noting that the Justice Department said this week it would not prosecute George Zimmerman for shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black youth in Sanford, Fla., Holder said the law needed to be changed to make such prosecutions easier.

Before he steps down, Holder is expected to announce that the Justice Department will not seek to prosecute Darren Wilson, the police officer in Ferguson, Mo., who shot and killed Michael Brown last year in a confrontation over a jaywalking offense. The case sparked widespread public protests and clashes with police.

“I’m going to say that I think we do need to change the law, that the standard [of proof] is too high,” he told NBC News. “We need to allow the federal government to be a better backstop in examining these cases.”

Obama reminds Iran deal critics: credibility counts

    By Steve Benen

    ——————————————-

Here’s a challenge for everyone involved in the debate: find one prominent voice who wants to kill the Iran deal who was right about the war in Iraq. Just one. It’s a strikingly difficult task – I’ve been looking for a while and I’ve come up empty – which reinforces a broader point.

It’s a quaint, almost inconvenient, approach to Beltway arguments, but credibility and accountability should probably count for something in debates like these. When a group of discredited conservatives fail miserably on matters of national security and foreign policy over the course of several years, and literally those same people tell the nation, “Trust us as we try to push the United States closer to yet another war in the Middle East,” it’s not unreasonable to think Americans should consider their track record.

The NY Times had a front page article about Gitmo. Yes, you guessed it. The slant was “PBO falters…”
Of course, the HuffPoop picked up the story and went with a kind of

To that end we will highlight anything we can dig up that he has not been able to complete. If we can’t find anything negative to say we will invent something” from the editors of HuffyPoopy, Your Kind Of News.

    http://bigstory.ap.org/article/e331c7110bcc45898e30e37971136e2e/us-home-sales-surge-june-fastest-pace-8-plus-years

Americans bought homes in June at the fastest rate in over eight years, pushing prices to record highs as buyer demand has eclipsed the availability of houses on the market.

The National Association of Realtors said Wednesday that sales of existing homes climbed 3.2 percent last month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.49 million, the highest rate since February 2007. Sales have jumped 9.6 percent over the past 12 months, while the number of listings has risen just 0.4 percent.

Median home prices climbed 6.5 percent over the past 12 months to $236,400, the highest level reported by the Realtors not adjusted for inflation.

Home-buying has recently surged as more buyers are flooding into the real estate market. Robust hiring over the past 21 months and an economic recovery now in its sixth year have enabled more Americans to set aside money for a down payment. But the rising demand has failed to draw more sellers into the market, causing tight inventories and escalating prices that could cap sales growth.

      Good Morning Meta and TOD

Just a word of caution about these polls. PBO’s favorables were underwater through the entire 2012 campaign. At the time that he won re-election he was 8 points under water. These type of polls can be a false indicator. As I stated all last year the media was focused like a laser on this women crowning her the Democratic nominee before the campaign even began. I promised you all that they were building her up so that they could once she officially got into the election spend all their time tearing her down. Although, she and her campaign give them plenty of ammo. I just wish I could predict the lottery numbers with the same efficiency.

        July 22, 2015 at 10:33 am

Donna, your words to the wise are noted.
Nevertheless, I am not unhappy to see these polls. This race has a long way to go and I am not yet clear about who VP Biden’s GOP opponent will be.

      • July 22, 2015 at 10:34 am

        Good morning, Donna.

I hear you. I just think it’s interesting that her commanding lead seems to be giving way to some who are beginning to question her invincibility. The numbers for trustworthiness in key states are of note.

I have no doubt that once the GOP debates get underway, the MSM will be giving their candidates lots and lots of oxygen. They are desperate for a GOP WH win so they can proceed with their “PBO is a failure” meme.
