    Has a sitting President ever spent the night in Oklahoma before???? Seems like it would be another first:)

      PBO has spent a night in OKC, a couple of years back. I believe it was when he did a visit to the pipeline there. It went well despite the fact it was OK:-)

        The news stations here are very excited. Will do beginning to end coverage. Tone is very different from pipeline visit. The local channels will do much better than the nationals, I know. They are making a lot of the “first sitting president ever to visit a federal prison” and visiting the Choctaw nation, is in Oklahoma, very important.

        In personal news, my husband was taken from the hospital last Monday to a skilled nursing facility, supposedly for rehab and therapy. He goes through his therapy, but there is no improvement. He has a multiplicity of conditions, but, interestingly, no pain. I visit him at least three times a day. His speech is deteriorating, and also his short term memory is also. However, he noted his long term memory is fine. We watched Lawrence Welk last night, and they were playing old songs. He would call the names of them without waiting for them to be announced…..music is in his very genetic makeup and won’t be forgotten. He tells me over and over “he loves me” and I tell him “I love him” He says he is content and at peace and happy. He also told me this morning that he knew three weeks ago that the end was near. I think he held on for out 49th anniversary out of sheer will power. Ever since then he has been obviously and rapidly failing.

        On my way back to see him; he’s only a mile away.

          Carolyn, you are his angel. Sending you sincerely hope that this time with your husband will be more sweet than sorrowful.

          Our first two years of marriage, we lived in Tishomingo near Durant, my husband’s first post with the US Public Health Service.

          Oh Carolyn. I echo the same feelings of love & support for you and your hubby as so many of our fellow TODers. Nothing is more precious than the moments we share with loved ones, especially at times like this. As your husband does, my paternal grandmother also loved The Lawrence Welk Show. Some of my fondest memories from my youth were of watching her sway to Big Band music on the radio while she prepared many a feast and later settling in beside her on the couch to watch Mr. Welk and his “musical family.” What I wouldn’t give to have been there in her final days to remind her how much she meant to me.

          Cherish the days. Love and be loved.
          Hugs to you both!

    Looks like the Nuclear Agreement announcement will step all over Walker’s pres announcement tomorrow. Breaks my heart. I was born and raised in WI before moving to MN after high school. What Walker has done to that state is heartbreaking.

    And then there is the visit to a federal prison. The GOP heads have got to be exploding. Despite everything they have tried the last seven years to stop him, PBO just keeps chalking up the wins and the firsts. Conversely, I don’t recall even seeing Bush around anywhere his last two years in office. After the debacle in NOLA, he basically vanished from sight.

      I am sorry FoxfireTx that Walker ruined WI but I put it ALL on the shoulders of the WI electorate and those that failed to vote many times to get rid of him. WI voters voted for PBO but during the mid-terms could not do what was best for their own state and vote Walker out.

    Hello TOD. Sunday Afternoon is Torturous here in MN……Sunny, yes….but Hot, blistering and Humid……bad for Humans and Pets.
    I am usually not a fan of Novak or Fedrer. I finally went all in for Fedex for Amk’s sake…..look what it gets me 😦 , a broken heartache. Thanks Amk.
    Congrats to all the Gold ⭐ winners, starting with this post and a few posts back.
    Off to find food to eat. Have had only large Cup of Coffee today and it is almost 11:37 am CT.
    See you all later.
    That sticker on Michelle Obama…….I am not on board with that. Mrs Obama knows her mind. She has told Us and so did her husband, POTUS, that Michelle Obama isn’t interested in running for an elected office. I believe her.

        Excellent question. Unfortunately Dems seem to believe stoking/catering to white working class racial resentments will win elections (it won’t). Keeping us divided makes it easier to do the 1%ers bidding, which seems to be the goal of both political parties. With the GOP shitting on Latinos, Dems have a great opportunity to build on and increase the size of the Obama coalition, filling the ranks with folks who have no standing in the GOP (women, AA, Latinos, working poor/middle class, homosexuals). The impulse to dismantle this coalition striving for the votes of racist whites makes no rational sense. Simply repeating the fact that (regardless of race) unless one is a 1%er or extremely fortunate, he/she will at some point in life need access to the social safety net (be it Social Security, ACA, Medicare, unemployment or welfare) could break the mental “fog” a lot of voters live in. Put another way, the chances of someone needing help at some point in life far outstrip his/her chances of winning the lottery (I think that hypothetical lottery winnings keeps a lot of folks from voting their interests). Dems seem reluctant to stress how much the poor and middle class have in common regardless of race. Adherence to the doctrine of White supremacy is causing self destructive actions by both Dems and the GOP. It causes the GOP to alienate and insult Latinos/immigrants despite demographic changes to the country (they do this to feed its base the steady diet of hate and racism it has grown accustomed to/dependent on). It causes the Dems to run away from the most successful Dem president since FDR, and disassemble the Obama coalition by courting racially intolerant people (who will never vote for Dems anyway). Dems seem to have an inferiority complex when it comes to the GOP. Dems always fall into the trap of running a “Republican-lite” campaign. Emulating the racism on the right will not win Dems the White House. Instead, it will return us to the days when elections were close enough for the GOP to steal, days when elections turned on one state’s results and were not decided until the wee hours of the morning. PBO has shown them twice how to win comfortably. If only they would throw away their old and tired playbook and adopt PBO’s winning strategy.

    I sometimes wonder how some people’s minds work and they succeed in making connections between seemingly unrelated events;

    case in point I was wondering why El Chapo was trending so I checked and so that he had once again escaped;

    then I saw the tweets linking the escape to the hatemonger and combover arrogant anti-immigrant candidate and his possible reaction to the report of this escape …….

    When you think of the countries involved in this deal, Israel’s isolation is pronounced. The sad thing is that if Bibi had shown any reason whatsoever, he could have played a positive role in the negotiations. PBO certainly remains finely attuned to Israel. But instead, Bibi plays the role of hysteric and it got him nothing. Wrong person to think he could humiliate and bully into submission.

    Unlike Cuba, I think it is highly unlikely we will see a restoration of normalizing relations with Iran during the remainder of PBO’s presidency. Simply too much bad history although I expect we will begin to work together on specific things like countering Daesh. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Rouhani and PBO have a first actual meeting at the UN next spring. So grateful for this agreement.
