            Oh, I dug myself out of *that* last night. šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ Haven’t watched a thing since the last bit of fireworks ended! It was a great opening ceremony, though long IMO.

            Today I’ve been dealing with your typical exasperating male!!! šŸ™„
            >> 1:15pm: offspring informs me that a friend from uni-vee is coming to visit in about 2 hours, for a few hours. Asked what he’s going to offer as a late lunch and got some very vague replies, so offered to take him grocery shopping.

            >>5:10pm – friend phones from bus terminal so we go meet him. Minutes after returning home offspring whispers that he’s staying the night. [Okay, I can handle that.]

            >> At the supper table, in conversation, friend mentions he’s here for three days! {I don’t really mind, but it would have helped if I’d mentally (and practically) prepared to entertain.}

            >> Anyhoo, friend actually **expressed interest** in playing scrabble (and unlike previous guest happily played two games, one of which I won), so all’s well! šŸ˜€

              kids: things we do for our moms. / smh

              scrabble? really? you want him outta there, dontcha?

                July 12, 2015 at 12:07 am

                My first thought was *min*!!!

                However, since the young man did not come to visit *me*, I’m okay with it. It’s the perfect way to get offspring to be host (i.e. do the worrying as to what activities constitute entertainment and then to set them in play.) šŸ˜€ šŸ˜€ That’s what got me into humiliating myself in the 2nd scrabble game – 1st was in English; 2nd in French. As you prolly know scrabble is a time consuming game!

            • July 12, 2015 at 12:06 am

              So you haven’t given up scrabble completely! That’s good because “we” I mean “ME” needs to prepare for 1/20/17. Weeping.

                Well, CarolM, the proper thrashing I got in the 2nd game gives proof enough that I need to get back into the (scrabble) swing of things.

                And no, I am not, and will not be, weeping re 1/20/17. On behalf of the Obamas, I have had enough of the GOP, the US MSM, and the haters to last the rest of my lifetime. In truth IMO the O’s cannot leave the WH soon enough AT THE END OF THEIR ELECTED TERM.

                *No tears here* – The O’s can, and will, do so much more without the encumbrance of the do-nothing haters!

    Thanks, LL – need some music in my head, too, after seeing this.

    Father Martin (he’s sometimes on MSNBC, as I’m sure some of you know) is a Jesuit priest, in the same religious order as the Pope. The subtlety with which he responded to this crassness coming from whatever Bush ambassador it is, was magnificent.

      There are some GOPers who really think the world begins and ends at the US border. Apart from it being about a very educated and intelligent Pope – the remarks about other parts of the world are truly ignorant and disgusting.

      I found the story where one of GW Bush’s former players – apparently saw himself as a “diplomat” back then – insulted Pope Francis and Argentina. Never seen anything like this, other than what the RWNJs say about President Obama, at every opportunity.

      What the Pope’s Left Hook in Bolivia Means (references to the Pope’s visit to the U.S. in the story)

      ” … Former ambassador Otto Reich, President George W. Bush’s Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, says Pope Francis’ economic and political agenda in his trip to Latin America has gone too far. ‘This pope grew up in a third world country that frankly is an example of what happens when you don’t have capitalism and democracy,’ Reich says. ‘I was very optimistic when he was named and I have been extremely disappointed in the political and economic aspects of his papacy. … He’s a victim of third world education, and Argentina is a particularly sad example.'”

    The local United Way office realized that it had never received a donation from the town’s most successful lawyer. The volunteer in charge of contributions called him to persuade him to contribute. “Our research shows that out of a yearly income of more than $600,000 you give not a penny to charity. Wouldn’t you like to give back to the community in some way?”

    The lawyer mulled this over for a moment and replied, “First, did your research also show that my mother is dying after a long illness, and has medical bills that are several times her annual income?” Embarrassed, the United Way rep mumbled, “Um … No.”

    “Second, that my brother, a disabled veteran, is blind and confined to a wheel chair?” The stricken United Way rep began to stammer out an apology, but was cut off.

    “Third, that my sister’s husband died in a traffic accident,” the lawyer’s voice rising in indignation, “leaving her penniless with three children?!” The humiliated United Way rep, completely beaten, said simply, “I had no idea …”

    On a roll, the lawyer cut him off once again, “… And I don’t give any money to them, so why should I give any to you?!?”

    aaand I am outta here.

    it is not unusual for events to overtake a nation and significantly change the previously excepted political course;

    i am wondering if Dems who are determined to distance themselves from PBO are going to be able to get away with it given the racist garbage the combover arrogant fool is shouting.

    many may wish that they are going to appeal to the specific voters while ignoring (not prioritizing) the needs of racial minorities.

    events like Charleston, police shootings and insults to immigrants will not permit this to happen

    It’s mid-morning in Iran. Quite a few positive tweets are coming out about talks resolving today and a deal being made.
    I remain very hopeful but we are now most certainly also going to be barraged with reports about terrible concessions and negative spin from all kinds of sources, so beware. Until I hear a presentation from Secretary Kerry and President Obama, I will resist the noise.
