Morning. It’s wonderful the way little kids can show the kind of open affection that we all suppress. Who wouldn’t want to hug PBO or hold on to his hand. Fog is lifting here this morning, so we can see a little sun. Have a great day everyone.

Morning Df. Just when you think they can’t make any dumber decisions down in TX, they prove you wrong. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad.

I live right outside of Austin and the stupid burns here. I work with three guys that oppose same sex marriage, and of course all three are divorced. Yes Texas is hoarding gold, because when the world economy collapses gold will be the new currency, we will be able to trade our gold for water and beef jerky.

When the Jade Helm 15 military exercises started the Army actually had to have a town hall meeting just to explain that the government wasn’t going to take everyone guns away and that the United Nations wasn’t going to send troops in to enforce martial law. I’m seriously thinking about transferring back to crazy Florida. I can deal with the crazy in Florida, because Florida has better food and better beaches. I know I shouldn’t base where I live on food, but one can only eat brisket and pulled-pork for so long.

I wonder who’s cooking up the plan to steal texas gold. I wonder how these folks plan to use gold as currency, print their own money? They don’t even have a secure place to house the gold and they want a private firm to build one in exchange for storage.

        July 5, 2015 at 10:18 am

Maybe they could secure the services of David Weekly Homes or Lennar to build them a storage facility, both those builders build nice homes. And in exchange for payment, Texas could let Weekly or Lennar put their name on the building.

    Hamilton achieves Silverstone hat-trick

That is Hamilton’s third British Grand Prix win, his fifth of this season and 38th overall.

He’s the first British winner from pole since Damon Hill in 1994, and the first back-to-back winner here since David Coulthard in 1999/2000.

And I bet you that behind close doors this guy is a stone cold freak of the highest order, and that would be okay. But people like this love dictating what should go on behind everyone’s bedroom doors but theirs.

    from beebs live blog

The German business daily Handelsblatt reports on the fears of the head of the Bundesbank (in German), Jens Weidmann.

The newspaper says he has warned Angela Merkel’s cabinet that a Grexit would hit the Bundesbank’s profits and have a knock-on effect on Germany’s budget.

The bank’s losses could top €14.4bn (£10.3bn, $16bn) in the event of a Grexit, he says.

    oopsee. law of unintended consequences.

I saw a bbc panelist say that only 20% of bail-out went into greece economy and rest of it went into EU bankers’ filthy deep pockets.

Lewis Hamilton has set new record for consecutive F1 races led by racking up number 18 today.

That beats Sir Jackie Stewart’s long-standing record, the Scot having managed 17 in succession while driving for Matra and Tyrrell in 1969-70.

wow, 45 year old record broken. Go Lewis.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/markets/2015/07/05/motley-fool-solar-energy/29583021/

When the SunShot Initiative was launched by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2011, even I thought it was a little crazy to think the goal of $1-per-watt solar energy was within reach. In this article from April 2011, I said that $1 per watt by 2017 had a “fighting chance” at best, but it was a long way off at the time.

Last weekend, First Solar’s (FSLR) CEO Jim Hughes said that $1 per watt is not only on the horizon, but is less than two years away. The government’s progress toward achieving $1 per watt by 2017 and having it be a widespread commercial reality by 2020 is well ahead of schedule, and that bodes well for the future of solar energy.

Past the point of no return

The progress in reducing the cost of solar energy shouldn’t be lost on anyone. Whether you invest in tech, retail, oil and gas, utilities, coal, or any other industry, this will affect the companies you own. And you’re going to want the solar boom to be a tailwind, not a headwind for your business (see: coal over the last five years).

According to GTM Research, the cost of utility-scale solar projects has fallen 67% in the past five years; $1 per watt would be another 44% in the next couple of years.

He also said the transfer of about 700 inmates that began Friday because of Thursday’s riot continued into Saturday. He would not disclose where they’d be transferred but said that state law allows the convicts to be placed temporarily in county facilities or even shipped out of state.

He added that correctional officers from public prisons have been called in to assist Management & Training Corp., the Utah-based company that manages the Kingman-area prison. He declined to specify which prisons the additional officers came from.

MTC did not return requests for comment Saturday night.

Saturday’s incident resulted in one or two inmates sustaining minor injuries, Wilder said. There were no reports of staff being injured.

Wilder declined comment regarding MTC’s operation of the private prison. He also said he had no information on who would be paying for the transfer of the inmates or the bill for local law enforcement having to respond to back-to-back incidents.

Speaking of peace, I was down at the Grateful Dead concert last night and I honestly have never ever been in a crowd of thousands that could be described as “not a crowd”. No one was pushing or complaining or being obnoxious. I know it goes without saying at a Grateful Dead concert but one could easily “Imagine” no possessions, no need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world…
