On This Day: President Barack Obama greets the family of departing staff member Archana Snyder, Council of Economic Advisers, in the Outer Oval Office, July 3, 2014 (Photo by Pete Souza)
Morning Chips. My hearing hasn’t deteriorated in the last year and I no longer have to sleep sitting up, so all is good so far. Hope all is well with you and Danny.
A senior member of the Islamic State (IS) group was killed in an American drone strike in Syria last month, according to the US military.
It says Tariq bin al-Tahar bin al-Falih al-Awni al-Harzi was responsible for co-ordinating suicide bombings in Iraq and moving weapons from Libya to Syria.
The US had offered a $3m (£1.9m) reward for the man it called the “emir of suicide bombers”.
IS has not commented on the reports of his death.
Harzi was allegedly killed in the northern-eastern Syrian town of Shaddadi on 16 June.
Good for Hollande. Who wants that looney in their country? Things must be getting a little uncomfortable in the Ecuador embassy. He’s like the man who came for dinner and NEVER left.
Come to think of it – you’re right. It is more of a distraction than a help and will throw people off, creeping them the hell out. This is like a driver’s version of one of your ‘sup posts.
Isn’t it brilliant? Would really love if they put out the full version of Amazing Grace, spine-tingling seeing it in close-up with the crowd rising in the background.
JoJo!! Ah, I missed that – I saw one clip that showed it from the crowd, it was gorgeous, but would really love to see it all. Must check YouTube in a bit.
I love west wing week! I hope they save each and every one for history’s sake. Amazing to see how much our president does and how many he touches each week!
I hope they archive the whole batch at his foundation so we can see them any time we wish.
Remember whitehouse.gov when W was president? Yeah, me either.
Just think, PBO and crew created a completely new website. There is SO much stuff on whitehouse.gov now that will be going away when he leaves office. I hope it can find a home somewhere…….
Am I the only person who wants to see Trump go away RIGHT NOW?
I get that people think his idiocy is somehow entertaining, but these jerk candidates demean the process and make our country look completely INSANE to the rest of the world. I can’t stand him being given a platform to spew his racism and belligerence. I also can’t imagine how much bigger his ego must be getting over all this. Intolerable.
I have very mixed emotions about it. On the one hand, the MSM angers me to no end the way the treat the whole Presidential race like a game. As we all know, there are very serious consequences riding on the election. On the other hand, I am enjoying the fact that Trump is showing the true colors of the Republican party. He is repulsive beyond belief but then so is that party in its current form. Time for Americans to wake up and see what it has become. And the fact that the other candidates are afraid to call him out just reinforces how disgusting the entire party is as currently constituted.
but they have been successful with this racist diatribe..lies…and distortions….they have won the Congress and many statehouses… who SHOULD really wake up are the folks who do not vote…
The team is working hard towards an Iran deal. Keeping my fingers crossed that this weekend allows them to cross the finish line. Somehow it is fitting that it happens over the 4th weekend.
Why Misty Copeland? How The Star Broke A Ballet Color Barrier
You have to watch the video.
“Misty, take a bow,” says Kevin McKenzie, ABT’s artistic director, and the camera pans over to Misty Copeland, who is smiling and crying simultaneously as people clap and cheer around her.
The whole thing is maybe 15 seconds long. Just a moment. But what a moment.
Misty Copeland, the ballerina you’ve heard of even if you know negative nothing about ballet, made history this week as the first African-American woman to be named a principal dancer at American Ballet Theater. ABT is 75. Copeland is 32.
But like other astounding ascents of individuals from persistently overlooked communities — say, Becky Hammon becoming the first female full-time coach in the NBA just last year, or Loretta Lynch’s confirmation as the first African-American woman to be Attorney General of the U.S. just over two months ago — the celebration still invites a question: what took so long? Yes, it is remarkable that Copeland is making history. But it is also disheartening that this history hadn’t already been made.
My youngest daughter started dancing at three years old. Her greatest love was ballet although she also did jazz, hip hop, and contemporary. She was in A place from the third grade through high school where they drew major ballet Masters. It was not until much later in her life that I heard about the consistent criticism she faced due to being the wrong body shape (she was short and powerful), the wrong muscle development since they were not elongated but more bulging as our family (excluding me) were downhill skiers. Her feet were the wrong shape, etc. etc. She went through a phase of latent body image problems and a near eating disorder due to these early criticisms. When I heard all of this I felt so guilty as I did not suspect anything. It was common for parents to not be allowed to watch the classes once the child was in the serious group. Ballet was more critical than the other forms of dance.
hi morning all

This is muy creepy and at the same time a good idea. I don’t know how to react…I’m conflicted! (Throws hands up and runs out of the room).
It’s a stupid idea. Driving is difficult as it is without these psychedelic shite.
Come to think of it – you’re right. It is more of a distraction than a help and will throw people off, creeping them the hell out. This is like a driver’s version of one of your ‘sup posts.
Heh!!! It hurt.

I got amk speechless for more than 5 minutes! BRAVA to me! 🙂 🙂
I think I missed the memo on your special relationship with hopefruit….

Lllooooonnngggggg story.
❤ Have some good work today, will be back this afternoon. Y'all just enjoy this day. {{{{{ TOD }}}}}
Love the close-up of PBO singing Amazing Grace, wish it was longer – and the clips from the camp-out are gorgeous!
WOW, this whole tape is spectacular. And we get to hear POTUS sing TWICE.
Isn’t it brilliant? Would really love if they put out the full version of Amazing Grace, spine-tingling seeing it in close-up with the crowd rising in the background.
Oh, yea, I vote YES. And I love seeing Joe and Jill, sweethearts.
When Rachel Maddow played the eulogy on her show it showed the audience standing when PBO started singing where PBS did not.
JoJo!! Ah, I missed that – I saw one clip that showed it from the crowd, it was gorgeous, but would really love to see it all. Must check YouTube in a bit.
Morning Ms Chips!
Proud to admit that I have watched many versions of this Eulogy by PBO.
Based on that I can recommend that the version that NBC recorded had a number of images of reactions from the people present.
I wrote this one NBC version I am talking about (to watch at my leisure) entitled “The Funeral of Reverend Clementa Pinckney”
Yes. The audience did stand when PBO started singing.
I agree!
I love west wing week! I hope they save each and every one for history’s sake. Amazing to see how much our president does and how many he touches each week!

Agree, it is a completely different feeling from the angle in this video. Love it. Thank you again Chips!
Thanks Chips! I get to see what my President has been doing while I’m out of the Country 🙂
G’morning Chips, TOD, lurkers, even amk, and congrats okey on #1! 🙂 Happy Friday everyone.
Mooooooooooooorning Horsefruit! 🙂
Um..Chips..are you becoming obsessed with horses today? First me, now Hf, are equines. Hmmmmm…
All you fault Jackie for telling us you almost sleep like a horse. Now I can’t get them out of my mind.
Good morning, Chips and TODville, and happy weekend!!
I do believe we have a very interesting week ahead.
HOPE.
Moooooooooorning Ms Majestic!
Mmmmoooorrrnnnininnnnggggggg, Charming Chipstar!!
😎
😆
lulz!
G’morning USA – seems someone told whoever controls the weather it really is supposed to be winter in my world – getting chilly again.
Love the pictures, love the President – and don’t those children know who is the good guy 🙂
Where is this going to be held?
I believe Japan! 🙂
Oh, cool. They can visit with Caroline.
it is in Canada
Oh, OK. Then they can visit vc and Gail.
🙂
Sorry – it’s in Canada – my mistake!
Isn’t in Canada?
Oh I’m sorry – yes you’re right Linda – it’s in VANCOUVER. I was thinking of the team…USA vs. Japan… LMAO! 🙂
I think it is in Vancouver
Vancouver, Canada, this Sunday
Japan is the team the USA is playing Sunday for the championship.
I wonder if that is one of their granddaughters with him?

True enough, Foxfire. True enough. I’m just sick of of the whole ugly stale mess they’ve created and they think they’re a winning party. Unbelievable.
but they have been successful with this racist diatribe..lies…and distortions….they have won the Congress and many statehouses… who SHOULD really wake up are the folks who do not vote…
i worry about 2016…..
I agree PF. I am worried too…
