What Did SCOTUS Do Today?

Truly shows the pettiness and privilege of Fisher. She was not qualified, but because she’s white, the heavens must always grant her everything. At the end of the day, more whites benefited but she’s butthurt because 5 Black and Latino students were granted admission. The privilege is disgusting

Emily Atkin: BREAKING: The Supreme Court Will Allow Coal Plants To Emit Unlimited Mercury

Power plants will continue to able to emit unlimited mercury, arsenic, and other pollutants thanks to the Supreme Court, which on Monday invalidated the first-ever U.S. regulations to limit toxic heavy metal pollution from coal and oil-fired plants. In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court struck down the Environmental Protection Agency’s Mercury and Air Toxic Standards, commonly referred to as MATS. The EPA had been trying to implement a rule that cut down on toxic mercury pollution for more than two decades. But the Supreme Court majority opinion, written by Justice Antonin Scalia, said the EPA acted unlawfully when it failed to consider how much the regulation would cost the power industry before deciding to craft the rule.

“EPA must consider cost — including cost of compliance — before deciding whether regulation is appropriate and necessary,” the opinion reads. “It will be up to the [EPA] to decide (as always, within the limits of reasonable interpretation) how to account for cost.” The decision doesn’t mean power plants will never be subject to regulations on toxic air pollutants. Instead, it means the EPA will have to go back to the drawing board, and find some mechanism to consider how much it will cost the power industry. Until another version of MATS is approved — a process that often takes years — power plants will have no limits on their emissions of mercury, arsenic, chromium, and other toxins. In other words, the rule is effectively delayed.

    Yeah, I’m seeing hand wringing over the coal plant ruling. TBH, I don’t see it as unreasonable for the EPA to consider costs. It was a very narrow decision, which the EPA can rectify.

    I just love-love-love the reaction of Gina McCarthy (a tweet that I can’t find back): “Oh, but most power plants are already moving to comply with this regulation.”

      Back in a minute with the Full Moon specs. Also, a link to NASA adding a second to our clock time, as the slowing of the Earth’s rotation requires a shift in our current time keeping. Mother Earth does not bother with time keeping, she just gets the job done. It might be easier for her without all 7.5 billion walking carbon units, each pushing 98.6 degrees, and blowing out CO2 with every breath. Uh Huh.

        Full Moon: the opposition takes place at 9.55 Capricorn, 1 July 2015, 10:20pm (EDT) 7:20pm (PDT). The Venus-Jupiter conjunction is exact at 3:51 am (EDT) 0:51 am (PDT) with Venus at 21.44 Leo, and Jupiter at 21.39 Leo (5 minutes of separation), on 1 July 2015. Now you know! All very exciting. In some thought circles, the Venus/Jupiter conjunction is called The Star of Bethlehem conjunction. For the record. Whatever it’s called, it ought to be some spectacular viewing if your skies are clear. It occurs again on 4 August 2015, at 28.45 Leo and 28.30 Leo, which is a wider aspect by 10 minutes.

    Greece:
    Once again, I repeat what I have said before – apart from the negative effects on the citizens of Greece, there are going to be some unforeseen consequences to the global economy;

    we all live in an inter-connected world and what happens in one nation can’t be totally confined to that one nation

      And I still do not understand (apart from the grief to the Greeks): According to Wikipedia’s “Eurozone” page, the Greek economy is 2.07 % of the total Eurozone.

      In a healthy economy that’s equivalent to a year’s growth.

      Certainly, if we simply go back to 1/1/2014 economically, not all is lost ?!?!

    Supreme Court blocks Texas abortion-clinic rules

    The Supreme Court is refusing to allow Texas to enforce restrictions that would force 10 abortion clinics to close. The justices voted 5-4 on Monday granting an emergency appeal from the clinics after a federal appeals court upheld new regulations and refused to keep them on hold while the clinics appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court order will remain in effect at least until the court decides whether to hear the clinics’ appeal of the lower court ruling, not before the fall.

      The tweets are very sobering. Tsipras has offered to step down if the referendum chooses to remain with the IMF.
      Propagandists will be predicting an EU win. As if.
      I don’t think there is any winning in the short run.

      Greece’s freedom from the usury level rates of debt repayment the IMF is demanding will be unbelievably difficult but in the long term perhaps it will work out for the Greek people.

    Florida Photographer Loses Client Over Marriage Equality; Responds Brilliantly

    Lee says a client later contacted him to say that they would no longer be “using [his] services” for their upcoming wedding.

    “My fiancé and I support traditional marriage between a man and a woman and don’t want to our money going to places that supports otherwise [sic],” the client allegedly wrote.

    Mr. Lee’s full response to his client follows:

    Wow, I’m not really sure what to say here. I would say this disappoints me, but I actually find this to be a good thing because our company now would now not like to work with you as well.

    It’s not that because you have a different view from us, but it’s because, since you don’t like an support gay marriage, no one else should be able to have it. That’s like me not liking broccoli, and demanding that everyone else in the world should not have broccoli either! If you’re not in favor of gay marriage that’s fine, don’t marry a woman.

    Personally, I was taught not to judge others and to love everyone else. So I will try not to judge you here and say anything more as to my opinion of you.

    At Brentwood Photography we see love in all forms. Now as far as your retainer goes, I hope you’ll read the first article in the contract you signed stating that this retainer is nonrefundable.

    But don’t you worry, I’m not going to keep it!

    Because of this conversation, I have decided to donate your $1500 to GLAAD [the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation], a group created to help and support gay rights.

    So let me be the first to say [redacted], thank you very much for your donation and support for this great cause!

    I couldn’t have done it without your money.

    Sincerely and with Love,

Our TOD family is such an important part of our lives, and your prayers for her sweet son, are so very much appreciated.     I never dreamt or wanted SoS to get hurt ;

    It appears that this is one of those times when you can’t understand WHY something happened when.

    In the end it may be that such an accident meant that a crucial time in the Iran Deal negotiations, may have resulted in preventing the media from chronicling his every movement and interaction. In the end this may have provided a chance for a reduction in media scrutiny and hyperventilating;

    I can not help but note that the seismic domestic events of the past days have taken the eyes of the media from the moment by moment reporting about the Iranian Deal – you know a majority can only focus on ONE subject at time ;

    tomorrow (or very soon) we may wake up with the huge announcement that the Iranian Deal is done and agreed to by the P5+1

    • 114 99ts
      June 29, 2015 at 8:39 pm

      The media has much difficulty in multi tasking linda – so they concentrate on issues they think PBO will lose. It seems there could well be a win coming up on the Iran deal, given there is so little being discussed. Last time there was a “deadline” the media was so full of what would happen if it wasn’t met – seem to be ignoring this one.
