Young Mo’ne is so cool, she defines the word. I’m so glad she’s emerged at a time when there’s a worldwide movement to empower girls and young women. She embodies everything–talent, determination, fearlessness.

      • June 28, 2015 at 3:50 pm

The pathetic thing is an “amateur” she can’t take any money from this or when she played in the NBA All-star game or the NCAA would rule her ineligible to receive a scholarship and play any sport in college….if you are a high school baseball player and get drafter you can sign a million dollar contract with Major League Baseball and still play in college….it is all ridiculous. This is part of the Federal lawsuit O’bannon vs. NCAA is trying to address, but that is more geared toward video game companies using player likeness and jersey #s but not compensating the collegiate athletes at all. NorthWestern University’s football team voted to unionize this past year but the official tally hasn’t been released….plus the coach Pat Fitzgerald was pressuring players to vote no with the implicit threat of not getting any playing time….so much hypocrisy on so many levels!

This crap needs to be fixed. Those organizations make big $$$ off these athletes, but they’re not allowed to reap the financial rewards from their own talents. It’s wrong!

Reince wishes this was the end of the story:

Problem is Lebron opting out is just him creating leveraging power b/c the 2017 NBA salary cap goes up 30 million…what he will do is sign a 1-year contract with a player option for year 2 (the same contract he just opted out of) then he will sign a long term deal at the end of next season after opting out again b/c he will be able to get a higher max contract in the area of 5 year $150 million…..back to Priebus, if the Cavs are in the NBA finals again next year (they are Vegas favorites 2.5/1) then the RNC is screwed b/c Quicken Loans arena is where the convention is supposed to be….what idiots to schedule in June during the playoffs……. ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

Yes. This is what I’ve been thinking too. There were many others involved, which raises the question of why these correctional employees would risk eveything to help these two thugs. I suspect the two guys were white supremacists and they were planning something much more sinister.

CHARLESTON, S.C. โ€” Vice President Joe Biden worshipped and spoke at the Sunday service of the historic African-American church where nine people were gunned down during Bible study earlier this month.

The vice president’s surprise appearance came on the second Sunday the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church held regular services following the June 17 shooting. Police contend the attack was racially motived and have charged a 21-year-old white man with the killings.

Biden said he’d visited Emanuel before and knew the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, the pastor of the church who was among those killed. more> > > >

Episcopal Bishops march in Salt Lake City for common ground against the “unholy trinity of racism, poverty, and gun violence.” Leading them is newly elected Bishop Michael Curry of North Carolina and Bishop Sutton of Baltimore (with whom I was on contemplative retreat in July 1996). http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865631588/Episcopalian-bishops-seek-end-to-unholy-trinity-of-racism-poverty-and-gun-violence.html?pg=all

Thanks, Bobfr. It feels like we could be at a tipping point with gun safety as we recently were with marriage equality. Most Americans support universal background checks, but every single one of us needs to write/call/email/tweet our Congress critters to support legislation NOW! De-fang the NRA. They are not as powerful as they like to think. Washington did it; Oregon just did it; many other states have. We need federal legislation to protect public health and keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. Those who own them should be required to have liability insurance.

” Diplomats in Vienna are close to clinching a historic deal to curb Iranโ€™s nuclear program, according to European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.

โ€œWe are near to close the deal, it is a good deal,โ€ Mogherini told reporters late Sunday after meetings with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who was heading to Tehran for consultations with his leadership before returning to Vienna.

Mogherini said both sides have shown the โ€œpolitical willโ€ to finish drafting a long-term accord to limit Iranโ€™s nuclear activities. Foreign ministers from all seven nations involved in the talks will gather again in the Austrian capital once a deal has been drafted, said Mogherini. The negotiations are in their 21st month.

Underscoring progress, two diplomats from among the six countries negotiating with Iran said the country has agreed to wait for sanctions relief until after United Nations inspectors have verified that curbs are implemented. Final details are to be worked out on the International Atomic Energy Agencyโ€™s assessment of the possible military dimensions of Iranโ€™s past nuclear work.”

“The move comes amid efforts to secure a warrant for Livni’s arrest by London lawyers Hickman and Rose, acting on behalf of a relative of a Palestinian killed in the bombing of a police compound on the first day of Israel’s military assault on Gaza, which began in December 2008.

Working with the Gaza-based Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), the law firm requested the CPS to advise police to arrest Livni for suspected war crimes, and to liaise with the attorney general to approve criminal charges.

Raji Sourani, PCHR director, said he was very disappointed at the government’s decision given that a British judge decided in December 2009 that there was sufficient evidence to justify Livni’s arrest over the three-week Israeli military assault on Gaza.

“As the lawyers for the victims of widespread suspected Israeli war crimes, PCHR is very concerned that these kind of political acts endorse the ‘rule of the jungle’ rather than the ‘rule of law’,” he said.”

So glad they finally got that second killer that escape from prison. So thankful for those people who put those long hours in to catch them both. Now put him back in prison and throw away the key and keep him away from desperate old women who will accept attention from anything.

This has indeed been a banner week for this country. Although I would not want them deciding elections again, I am happy to see that Justice Roberts will not easily follow the radicals on the Court off the proverbial cliff. That is a good sign for this nation, for it is vital the populace have some semblance of confidence in its institutions to follow the rule of law. On a political note, all of these victories by PBO have definitely strengthened his presidency in the view of the world (and much of this country), which will make successful trade deals and an Iran nuclear deal more likely. The treasonous behavior of the GOP and disloyalty of the Dems really hurts our nation in the eyes of the world. A house divided cannot stand. Having the President’s positions so strongly validated will no doubt alleviate this situation. Through all the noise and drama, PBO just keeps on moving toward his North Star, striving to make this country a more perfect union. I am confident that I am on the right side of history in supporting the Presidency of Barack Obama. The remake of the science fiction movie ‘Total Recall’ had PBO’s portrait on the currency of the day. I think that is a real possibility. History will be kind to our president.
