Chat Away

On This Day: President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama look out from the Door of No Return while touring the House of Slaves, or Maison des Esclaves, at Goree Island, Senegal. The First Family toured the museum at the site where African slaves were held before going through the door and being shipped off the continent as slaves.

Nikki Haley is a phony. It wouldn’t surprise me if they doesn’t take that racists flag down. Course these people who sees nothing wrong in that flag, doesn’t see anything wrong in slavery, which they claim the civil war wasn’t about..

Yesterday in his eulogy President Obama talked about the journey to a more perfect union happens in fits and starts, two steps forward and one step backwards. The sister that took down the confederate flag represents taking two steps forward, but the officials that had it put back up represents taking one step backwards. I do believe that in the end the confederate flag will be removed, for good.

Morning everyone:) Happy Saturday! Good on that woman who decided to climb the flagpole and take that damn hateful relic down…she did a “twofer”. She took the flag down AND exposed the lying Gov. Little Nikki really doesn’t have a fire in her belly to get rid of that flag…if she did, it would have STAYED down! Lord knows, gotta keep the place sufficiently racist when the KKK come to visit. Good grief. Do they even HEAR themselves anymore. Someone needs to keep a journal and write this stuff down and while they’re at it…they should take lots of pictures. One day, the KKK and that racist flag will be gone from this Earth all together. It won’t be a moment too soon. Another day for a RWNJ to tell lies….act surprised.

Meanwhile….the Earth really DID shift on its axis this week….and I feel different, just like jackieg:)

Could this Open Letter be front paged on a future post? It is powerful. This is basically what our minister said to a very white congregation last Sunday.

Like others, I do feel a stirring, something I have never felt before in this country. We cannot and will not go back, no matter the hate spewed.

Excellent read. As a “whitey” myself, and a teacher, I am challenging my students everyday to understand we are all part of the human race and that the values of liberty and equality are for people regardless of race, color, gender, religion…

a few days ago, I expressed my wish here, that some enterprising person in SC should climb the flag pole and take that confederate rag down.

    it didn’t occur to me that a black woman would be thinking the same way and then better still, climb up the flagpole herself and “just do it”;

    I am ecstatic that she went ahead took it down for even a few minutes – she is a very brave person and I am very proud of her athleticism, her motivation, her determination, and how brave she is;

as we can see, she also exposed what some of us suspected when the date for “debating the taking down of the rag” was set too far into the future which is that some of this talk was for show.

I have no doubt that a number of officials in SC actual hope the cameras can go away and they can go on with their business while still upholding that rag.

I will wait for the actual rag-takedown to happen …… hope I don’t have to wait for an eternity

I’m confused. I thought Nikki Haley the Governor ordered the confederate flag to be taken down permanently.

    • 54 Judith Fardig
      June 27, 2015 at 10:39 am

Nikki Haley did not have the courage of a few other Southern Governors and just order the damn thing down. She said it “should” come down when the SC state legislature votes to take it down, thus dragging out the process. Just rip the hateful bandaid off, Gov. Haley!

    One of the comments there

I’m just hoping all fire departments across the country, and especially the south are on high alert.

They need to be ready at a moment’s notice — I’ve heard that one evangelical after another is going to be setting himself on fire after the Supreme Court ruling.

And border guards to the north are also going to be severly overworked — evangelicals who don’t set themselves on fire are going to be fleeing to Canada.
And when they find out same sex marriage is legal in Canada, they will be fleeing back.

And maybe setting themselves on fire when they return.

I know many folks don’t like the site – but this is a good roundup on the losing Gov of Kansas
    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/06/27/1396977/–KS-Sam-Brownback-s-Terrible-No-Good-Day#

What I didn’t know – the anti women team are trying to remove the safest sanest abortion method that is used world wide!!!

“A Kansas state judge on Thursday temporarily blocked a new law that would have banned the most common method of abortion in the second trimester.
The law, adopted in April and the first of its kind in the nation, would have barred a method known as dilation and evacuation, which doctors say is usually the safest and most convenient abortion technique after about the 12th to 14th week of pregnancy.”

Presumably someone else wrote the legislation (Alec?) and thought Kansas was a good state to start the ball rolling.

Can this really be happening in the US in 2015?

Yes. The same pundits busy praising Bernie’s honesty and plain-spoken (even when Wrong) approach, saying that “authentic” is what is needed now……..
Just you wait for when Joe jumps in.
All of a sudden the virtue of authentic becomes the stigma of “gaffe.”

On “jumping in” as the accepted descriptor for entering a race, I had to think about Christie jumping anyplace. NJ better nail down anything near him because that huge dead weight will send shock waves for miles.

      My thoughts exactly!

Love that @breenewsome #FreeBree is such a stellar representative for @FLOTUS health initiative and for feminists everywhere.

Let’s see if #WhitePrivilege #WhiteSororityFeminists notice — still seethe at @mcottle’s punditry a few years back, criticizing @FLOTUS get healthy campaign — which said that Michelle Obama wasn’t employing her education and position to her satisfaction.

Those of us old enough to remember JFK recall the President’s Youth Fitness program — if such a program is good enough for the 35th POTUS, it is good enough for the 44th FLOTUS.

      end of rant.

    Great story.

    http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20150626/PC16/150629405

Charles Miller Jr. may one day be remembered as the musician who punctuated President Barack Obama’s powerful speech on Friday in a way only a church organist could.

As Obama spoke the lyrics of “Amazing Grace,” and later sang them toward the end of his eulogy for the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, Miller pounded on his Hammond C-3, electrifying the packed TD Arena with chords of the well-known spiritual.

It was a ray of light, a moment to rejoice amid so many tears and broken hearts, including his own.

Hours after the funeral, Miller reflected on that moment, and said it truly felt like that was part of his purpose in life.

For some reason I felt the urge to go back and view this post and I had a stronger urge to being up close view of the picture at the top of this post. The intensity of both POB and FLOTUS faces is so heartfelt. Her concern for him is visible all over her face. It’s almost painful.
While on the other hand his pain is etched from a place that comes deep within his soul.
These two remarkable people are exactly where God has placed them. And there is nothing we or anyone else can do about it…….except receive the blessings and be grateful that they were sent for us.
