I would never click on that Slate article because I take strong umbrage at the use of the word ‘dissipated’ to describe Pres O! I don’t like ‘dejected’ BUT I strongly object to ‘dissipated’ and its connotations! 😦 😦 God, I wish these ‘writers’ would make meaningful and truthful word choices instead of throwing words around! Ugh!

Skip the first paragraph…it is a pretty thoughtful piece…..if you so wish πŸ™‚

Apologies, LPlains, not thoughtful enough to get me past the first sentence. In fact, I don’t even like the inference of a ‘transformed’ PBO in his headline, but at *that* point I was willing to give the writer the benefit of the doubt. [Did I tell you that I hate when media act like PBO has majorly changed when he’s been saying what he stands for from the very beginning?]

VC – try to remember the ‘English’ language many American writers use, is simply NOT ENGLISH, not in the way you and others speak and write in English. Oh, yes, they may ‘think’ it is, but it isn’t. As amk would say, it’s Amurikan. And can be a nasty experience at times trying to figure out what they are saying!! {{{ VC }}} ❀

    Rachel is framing—showcasing POTUS’s eulogy.
Urging everyone to watch and saying there will be no commercials. Rachel said this is the most remarkable speech ever heard from a US President.
If you are near a TV I hope you have it tuned in.

I’m watching – and sure don’t need anyone from the media to say it is the most remarkable speech from a US President – but it is nice to hear it. Mostly the remembered President/PM speeches relate to war – It is truly remarkable that a speech on Grace – trumps them all.

      • June 26, 2015 at 10:03 pm

Morning 99ts! Just to confirm your radar is razor sharp: that troll you spotted the other day? Came back today nearly choking with rage about the SCOTUS gay marriage decision.

As my Granny used to say, ‘no flies on you’. πŸ™‚

Like I said above – they HAVE to add some words to appease the haters. There can never be a simple positive response from the US media

        • June 26, 2015 at 10:34 pm

It is kinda of sad that I the best newscasts in the U.S. are actually foreign ones…BBC, NHK, AJA…PBS is about the only bastion of sanity domesticaly, 99.

Every GOP pretender has lost every vote except those from the privileged white in the past few hours. They have all attacked SCOTUS and SSM.

And then the President made that speech and some of those pretenders were there to see and hear and note the reactions of those who twice voted for this President.

    Not surprising.

I watched C-SPAN this afternoon which kept its camera and sound tuned in to PBO the entire time.
Just now, on Rachel we see that
MSNBC pulled away from The President singing right in the middle, showing the congregation instead, and the organ music drowned out part of his voice. The impact was still big, but somewhat diminished, as was MSNBC’s intention.
This is what propaganda looks like and why it is not easy to spot, unless you’ve seen another version.

The clips Chips showed us had the better version.

A-hem. Tricksy, tricksy, eh?? I felt very blessed to have time and signal to watch the entire program live, on WH.gov link posted here. With only one or two short blips, and they came back in exactly the right spot. It felt like bliss, to me. Standing, cheering, weeping, singing, hugging myself, sometimes simply stunned that we could be here, now, with such a man to lead the way. And to have each other, here on TOD, thanks to Chipsticks and NerdyWonka. It can only get better, right! πŸ˜‰

PBO is already the one of the best Presidents the country has ever known, that much is reality. Reflecting on how close to the edge of oblivion this country was when PBO took office and seeing how far we as a nation have come, makes his presidency all the more remarkable. All the propagandistic headlines calling him “the worst president ever” or declaring his presidency “over” or lamenting his latest “Katrina” look more and more foolish and petty as time passes. We are truly living in historic times. All but the most delusional and biased must admit that PBO has delivered on an exceptionally high percentage of his campaign promises. He has indeed brought change to this country (and did not allow the hate, foolishness and pettiness to change him). All in the face of unprecedented obstruction and lukewarm support from his own party. PBO’s “fourth quarter” is redefining the American presidency (lame duck my ass).

Chips, thanks for bringing this beautiful family known as TOD together to support and love the best president ever. We will continue to keep his back and love him with our work for these 18 months. May blessing continue to stand at his door. Love you, Mr. President. HZ
