    Good Morning…..

Did anyone notice the side eye that Rep Clyburn gave to Gov Haley at her phoney announcement to remove the flag ? I did, and it appears others are not falling for it either.

Stop the fake praise of Gov. Haley…..she is a member of ALEC…… demand she resigns from that hate group. NOW.

I caught just the tail end of what appeared to be an argument on Morning Joke between Jonathon Capehart, John Heileman and Bill Kristol this morning.

I might be repeated at the 8 am hour like they normally do every morning.

Morning all. The storms have passed and it’s bright and sunny today–hope it’s a good omen for another doctor visit. If TPP passes this week and gets signed by the President, I will feel a devilish glee after all the endless crap I’ve heard about presidential “betrayal.” Is it mean of me to want the detractors to actually choke on their words?

    • June 24, 2015 at 7:51 am

“Is it mean of me to want the detractors to actually choke on their words?”

Jackie, that is actually very Christian compared to what I want to happen to them. 🙂

Morning, Chips. I am still angry about the way I kept getting shouted at in meetings as though I were some ignoramus who didn’t realized that PBO had ‘sold out.” I can barely stand to look at some people anymore. They truly disgust me.

        • June 24, 2015 at 8:06 am

Oh, I’d punch them. These are people who, generally, were just waiting for any issue to arise to attack PBO, and they think this one will do the trick.

The Faces of TAA: How This Program Can Help Change So Many Lives

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) is a program with an obscure name but an important purpose.

The 21st century economy is driven by an ever-changing global marketplace, with new industries redefining consumer demand and reshaping our workforce. That means that, to outcompete other countries, America’s workforce needs all the job training and support needed to tap into new opportunities that the 21st century can present.

That is what TAA was created to do. It provides job training. It provides income support for workers in training programs. It has provided much-needed support to 2.2 million workers since it was created, including more than 23,000 veterans since October 2009 alone.
    ……………………………

Here are just a few of the stories of workers who have benefited from TAA:

    Jessica Kinkade, Oregon

“I would not be where I am now if it weren’t for the incredible opportunity I had through TAA. I am a better woman, mother, wife, and employee because of this experience!”

Jessica, a Eugene, OR native, worked in the stockroom managing inventory, pulling work orders, and performing quality control. After four years of employment, she was laid off due to foreign competition. She called the TAA program, was among a group of workers certified as eligible to apply for assistance, and was soon determined eligible for TAA benefits and services.

She took her high school diploma to college and graduated with a GPA of 4.15 and a new job as Provider Network Support Specialist, earning considerably more than in her previous job. “I…am beyond happy,” she says. “I am making a wage that can better provide for my family.”

      Found this on Wiki:

      Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers[edit]

The Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration program, Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers, provides a variety of reemployment services including training and job-searching assistance and benefits to displaced workers who have lost their jobs or suffered a reduction of hours and wages as a result of increased imports or shifts in production outside the United States. The TAA program aims to help program participants obtain new jobs faster, ensuring they retain employment and earn wages comparable to their prior employment. Among the main benefits are: trade readjustment allowances (TRA) in addition to regular unemployment insurance (UI) up to 117 weeks of cash payments for all workers concurrently enrolled only in full-time training (workers must be enrolled in training 8 weeks after certification or 16 weeks after layoff, whichever is later, to receive TRA), and Reemployment Trade Adjustment Assistance (RTAA) or supplementary wages for workers age 50 and over, and earning less than $50,000 per year in reemployment. It provides a wage supplement equal to 50% of the difference between a worker’s reemployment wage and wage at the worker’s certified job with a maximum benefit of $10,000 over a period of up to two years (workers must be reemployed within 26 weeks). The TAA used to include a Health Coverage Tax Credit Program which will definitively expire at the end of 2013 and other tax credits related to health coverage will become available (e.g. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act). The program promotes retraining since workers receive the TRAs only if they participate in a full-time TAA training (or are under a waiver).[22] The program is administered by the Department of Labor (DOL) in cooperation with the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The Secretary of Labor was authorized to implement Trade Readjustment Assistance (TRA) and relocation allowances through cooperating state agencies. TRA are income support payments that were, at that time, paid in addition to an individual’s regular unemployment compensation. The original program had no training or reemployment component. The program was rarely used until 1974, when it was expanded as part of the Trade Act of 1974. The Trade Act of 1974 established the training component of the program. In 1981, the program was sharply curtailed by the Congress at the request of the Reagan Administration.[23] In 2002, the Trade Adjustment Assistance Reform Act (TAARA) expanded the program and it was combined with the trade adjustment program provided under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).[24]

The TAA has recently suffered several amendments. In 2009, the TAA program was expanded by the Trade and Globalization Adjustment Assistance Act (TGAAA) of 2009, which was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These benefits were extended through February 2011 by the Omnibus Trade Act of 2010. After that, the program reverted to the pre-expansion provisions under the TAARA of 2002. In October 2011, the Trade Adjustment Assistance Extension Act (TAAEA) of 2011 was signed into law, reinstating most of the benefits included in the TGAAA of 2009. The TAA is authorized through December 31, 2014 but with some modifications. The TAA will operate under its current provisions through December 31, 2013. For the additional year until its expiration on December 31, 2014, the TAA is set to operate under the eligibility and benefit levels established by the TAARA of 2002.[22]

What absolute trash! Who are these morons to ask something this outrageously idiotic! CNN needs to quit using up air space now.
There are no more sharks for them to jump. It’s time they just drowned and took their twisted commentators with them. But first I want an apology from them. I want them to tell the American people they’re sorry for insulting our intelligence and for consistently lying about their own credibility as a (cough) news entity. I want them to say publicly that they peddle trash and are voluntarily surrendering their license to broadcast so that Americans won’t have to suffer their incompetence a day longer. Nothing short of that will do.

      Fabulous!

And for those who fear that taking the Confederate Flag down is not much more than removing a symbol:
Let me remind you that there was similar doubt when smoking in restaurants was banned.
Every year the bans widened out and smoking rates in our country and world-wide keep dropping dramatically.

End positive references to white supremacy everywhere and I believe that the USA can stop a lot of hateful behavior. Dylann Roof got lots of positive reinforcement for his insane beliefs and actions. Isn’t it reasonable to act to eliminate any positive view of racism in every way we can?

Nowadays, people are ashamed to light up in public. The day that pumping up the Confederacy in any way at all is universally regarded as repulsive, will be a day that can’t come soon enough.

Good morning everyone. It is a good morning in my little world, as it is our 49th anniversary. Three months ago I did not think my husband would live to see this day, but he is improving, and here we are. We had a good doctor’s visit yesterday. The only bad part was that he had lost weight since his last appointment, but the doctor’s only prescription for the next two weeks is that he eat a lot and put that weight back on so he can gain strength. Also, the doctor took him off antibiotics….after 16 weeks! praise be….and also off the diuretics……because his edema is totally gone! So, progress is being made. I think his appetite will return now that he’s off antibiotics. The doctor said his prescription for the next two weeks is food, exercise and more vitamins. That, we can live with.

Thank you for your concern expressed in my dark days this spring. I’m hoping the summer brings better days. I am so thankful for this good place.

According to a study by Harvard and Northeastern University researchers, from 1982 to 2011, a mass shooting occurred an average of every 200 days; since 2011, mass shootings happened an average of every 64 days. Each time it happens, politicians and commentators immediately rush into to announce the social significance of the tragedy. And sometimes, these commentaries can be more harmful than the actual shootings because of their long-term effect, to the point of creating even more widespread damage to the community.

There’s a lot of debate about whether or not this was a terrorist act. Terrorism is a political tool that has a specific goal. Terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan want to drive Americans out of their countries. Terrorists in other countries do it for the same reason: to gain political power. After an hour at the prayer meeting, Dylann Roof stood up and proclaimed that he was there “to shoot black people.” His rambling manifesto during the shootings was: “You rape our women, and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.” In his mind he was a terrorist, but in reality this was nothing more than hate crime using terrorist tactics to enact his racist fantasy. Roof had no hope of driving African Americans out of the country, starting a race war or engendering any political or social change at all. We shouldn’t use it as an excuse to discuss terrorism because that diverts us from the actual problem.

The real threat here isn’t that this is an indicator of an surge in right-wing racist attacks, it’s that we allow this incident to be used as a political football by those who hope to leverage it to their gain, which is a more subtle form of terrorism: media terrorism.

    ……………………….

Those who refute the clear racial element in these attacks are like Holocaust deniers who say there were no gas chambers, no mass genocide, that the world is just conspiring against the poor misunderstood Nazis. Slavery was America’s Black Holocaust. There were over 10 million slaves in the U.S. between 1525 and 1866, and they were systematically stripped of their identities, dignity, human rights, and far too often, their lives. Yes, that’s ancient history and Americans today should in no way be blamed for the misdeeds of their ancestors. But the hard truth that deniers wish to avoid is that the residual effects of that slavery, abolished 150 years ago, still permeates society. Statistics prove that, despite enormous gains and sincere efforts by many in the white and black communities, African Americans are still struggling to gain economic, educational, and judicial parity. As long as we admit the problem, we have a chance of eventually fixing it.

    http://thinkprogress.org/immigration/2015/06/24/3673064/undocumented-surplus-medicare-trust-fund/

Undocumented immigrants provided a surplus of $35.1 billion to the Medicare Trust Fund between 2000 and 2011, according to a new Journal of General Internal Medicine study recently published. The findings challenge concerns that undocumented immigrants are financially burdening the health care system.

According to the study, undocumented immigrants contributed $2.2 and $3.8 billion more than they withdrew annually between 2000 and 2011 to a Medicare program known as the Hospital Insurance Trust fund. The total contribution of their surplus was $35.1 billion.
Medicare consists of two trust funds. The Hospital Insurance Trust Fund (HITF), mostly paid through payroll taxes (and interest on past surpluses), pays for inpatient care. The Supplemental Medical Insurance Trust Fund (SMITF), mostly funded through enrollee premiums and Congressional appropriations from general revenues, pays for outpatient care.

“If unauthorized immigrants had not contributed to nor drawn HITF funds from 2000 to 2011, the HITF would become insolvent in 2029 — 1 year earlier than is currently predicted by Medicare’s Trustees based on their intermediate cost assumptions,” the study concluded.
The study found that in 2011 alone, undocumented immigrants paid in $3.5 billion more than they needed in care. “Unauthorized immigrants generated an average surplus of $316 per capita to the Trust Fund, while other Americans generated a deficit of $106 per capita,” the study’s press release indicated.

    http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-06-24/conservative-groups-bracing-republicans-for-obamacare-ruling

Republican tensions over Obamacare rose Tuesday after Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint ramped up pressure on the party not to extend health insurance subsidies—even temporarily—that the Supreme Court could erase within days.

In an op-ed titled “Let the subsidies die,” the former senator and conservative kingmaker took aim at Republicans who are eyeing a backup plan that temporarily preserves the subsidies to avoid massive disruptions and loss of coverage for millions of Americans.

“It would be uncaring and unfair for Congress to force taxpayers to continue funding Obamacare’s subsidies,” DeMint wrote in the Washington Examiner. “Extending the subsidies would be political malpractice, not just a mere Band-Aid upon an infected wound.” He argued that it would be “far better” to simply repeal the entire law.

The subsidies would continue for those states that have their own website….only the people from the Red-State’s-with-Greedy-Hateful Governors would get their subsidies cut off….hahahahaha to you DeMentted bastard.

I’m intrigued as to what DeMint defines as “caring and fair” given that he sees the subsidies as the opposite. How can people vote for these blots on the landscape of humanity??

Why is the Republican Leadership pretending they give two licks about the Charleston Massacre ?

I do not recall any of them attending other Memorials of mass shootings. Boehner never even bother to contact Gabby Giffords . All he did was have a staffer send a card.

In 2014, all it took was a few weasely, mild comments from GOP candidates on such issues as birth control, etc. to put enough voters at ease to vote for them.

I think this is what is at play here with the confederate flag. They can wave those statements and votes, and hope that their disastrous policies and intentions are forgotten by the indies and others who were just starting to look at the GOP as the heartless monsters that they are.

I don’t believe for a second that this is some sea change, and I’m sick of every effing alleged progressive pundit saying so. This is calculated. It worked in 2014 and the GOP is counting on it working in 2016.
