Will President Obama issue a statement either prior to or immediately after the TPA vote that he will withhold signature of the TPA until the TAA receives cloture and then passes.
At this point, I have no doubt TPA will pass tomorrow.
I doubt he will issue anything tomorrow…I believe the main agenda item is an on-camera briefing on administration hostage policy. I think the picture they put out pretty much says it all.
The house bill that they will vote on tomorrow is Paul Ryan Africa trade bill that passed with 400 votes. senate amending TAA to that and then sending back to house. Final house vote will be Friday. Regardless, PBO could sign TPA tomorrow if he wanted and dare pelosi & co. To not vote for TAA.
Problem was to get it out of the GOP house rules com. they set it up as must pass for both TPA & TAA to become law…..at the time GOP didn’t have votes and needed D’s. Then Nancy went batshit and pulled that vote against TAA crap.
I thought it really curious – and perhaps a bit too obvious – that when PBO suffered his zillionth ‘katrina moment’ last week on the failed House trade legislation vote, one of the first ‘undisclosed source’ messages was that Speaker Pelosi was going to use House Dem votes to leverage a ‘comprehensive highway infrastructure bill.’ Not even 7 days later, Vitter, Boxer, Carper, Inhofe introduce the DRIVE act in the Senate.
That’s why, btw, why I was reticent on chastising Speaker Pelosi. She has been a stalwart supporter of PBO and what appeared to be a betrayal was just too divergent to be believable. (Won’t have long to wait to know.)
Everyone is aware that without Dem votes the trade legislation that President Obama would be willing to sign will not get to his desk.
Reality is that GOP are now caught in the worst possible conundrum – their corporate overlords want this trade deal to pass, they need legislation that PBO is willing to sign because no way do they have sufficient votes to override a veto, States and corporations are demanding we fix our infrastructure, and States and corporations know that comprehensive infrastructure appropriations will create 1M plus jobs which will mean more tax revenue and more sales.
Once again, President Obama has designed the conundrum algorithm, perfectly. And, if the outcome is as designed he will also have resolved yet another of President Clinton’s FAILS, i.e., NAFTA.
You may be right on Pelosi & PBO (it was also rather convenient that they were both at the Conf of Mayors & then in the private confines of Tom Steyer’s home for a fundraiser later that evening) last Friday, but the reason I have been harsher on Min. Leader Pelosi is the WH leaked that last Tues before the vote they were under the impression she was on board only to change her mind the day of and then asked for the Highway bill to be amended to a future TPA vote which is why I think she simply got outplayed by the chess master after the initial go round failed…. I think I just have a bad taste in my mouth on how this all played out publicly regardless of the end result.
I’ll wait to see who attends the signing ceremonies – for Trade and for ‘Highway Infrastructure’ – and how big their smiles and hugs with PBO are 🙂
Like I said, the apparent change in position and then the ‘comprehensive highway legislation’ caveat to get D votes seemed just a bit too obvious to me that PBO and Madame Speaker were playing the GOP for the fools they long ago proved they are.
What I know for certain is that PBO BBQ’d the ‘lame duck’ months ago and GOP better hope he’s not developing a taste for BBQ’d elephant 😀
“BBQ’d elephant” …..awesome zinger! You’re right the true tell will be at the signing ceremony…
Don’t know if you saw my screenshots of Dep. spokesman Shultz’s RT on the last thread, but his TL is full of a bunch of awesomeness after today’s cloture vote 😀
This. ^5 Nancy Smash is a force for good. While it made no sense at all for her to stand against PBO, she can take the heat of doing something the MSM will distort and wreak havoc with. I agree, bobfr, intuitively it seemed a bit too ‘out there’, and I felt it best to wait, watch, and #TrustBarack, as we have always done.
LOL! I love my POTUS and VPOTUS. You can tell they love each other and love working together. I have never this before and I’m headed toward 65. If you are as old as me or older you know what I’m talking about.
This photo and tweet are sublime! Have been trying to give some props to the Democratic Senators who voted to proceed with TPA: Bennett, Cantwell, Carper, Coons, Feinstein, Heitkamp, Kaine, McCaskill, Murray, Nelson, Shaheen, Warner, and Wyden:
I’ve read some comments about the trade deal on curious threads on FB.. 99% are what you would expect: disappointed in
PO, dory voted for, a sellout, blah, blah, blah! They are going to look like fools!
TN, I’m so sick of this kind of reaction to TPP. It’s based on ignorance and fear and a mistrust of our President that I deeply resent. There is no talking to people who have their minds closed. I’ve tried and failed and no longer care enough to keep at it. They are not only going to look like fools, they are fools.
Ha!! Yes, indeed!! 99ts, all day I have been trying to imagine temps in your area making a duvet a desirable commodity!! But I have one memory of having lived up in Cairns for a short while, then traveling to the Proserpine region with my tent and backpack, and having to go around the campsite in the middle of the night, begging for an extra blanket!! I had left my down sleeping bag in Sydney, was so sure I wouldn’t need it in NQ!! Some memories make us smile into our old age!! And yes, I did find a compassionate couple with a campervan, they smiled and said, “oh, you must be from Up North”! I returned their wonderful wool blanket in the morning, with gratitude!!
Gets down to about 8C at night – and to me that is cold. When I first moved here from “down south” I thought it was hot! One gets used to a climate.
On the downsizing – house contract is now unconditional & we have signed a lease to rent until the unit is ready. This has some minor disadvantages to the downsizing – we seem to already be accumulating more stuff – given we have space to put it for the next few months.
Sounds good tho, and the exercise of downsizing has been great practice for letting go and doing with less. It will be much easier once you are in the new place, and I just know you will both enjoy the simplicity of having less ‘stuff’. Goodness knows why we think we need so much!! Very pleased for the positive outcome, 99ts, I have watched the progress with interest and compassion! At least you have had some reasonable time, that was a blessing! I must try to rest, it has been a weird day around here! Goodnight! {{{{{ 99ts }}}}}

How does NY justify the actions of some of their police/prosecutors?? – not only are they paid a salary but the people pay for their crimes
“New York authorities have agreed to pay $US6.25 million in compensation to an innocent man who spent nearly 25 years languishing in prison for a murder he did not commit.”
The man was 1600km away from where the murder was committed – and a jury found him guilty. I hazard a guess as to the color of his skin (not mention in the article I read). Racism in action.
An Opportunity to Fight Poverty and Stand Up for Workers Through Trade
For decades, we’ve fought to secure a series of trade programs that have delivered results at home and around the globe. This week, Congress will consider whether or not to continue these programs that help bring people out of poverty, create new opportunities for developing countries to grow, and help retrain American workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.
The Trade Preferences Extension Act, which the Administration has worked on closely with Congress, will not only expand and improve Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), which helps laid-off U.S. workers get back on their feet, but will also extend programs that help support jobs and economic growth in developing countries. These programs include the African Growth & Opportunity Act (AGOA), Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), and Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity through Partnership Encouragement (HOPE) Act.
Combined, these improved trade programs present a unique opportunity to both support American workers and help create jobs in the developing world.
Here is a look at key provisions of the Trade Preferences Extension Act that Congress is considering this week:
Wow….did not know about all these programs. Helping to give opportunity in foreign lands can stop extremism from taking root. Important. Our media should be touting this.
Morning, Pf58, you optimist, you!
In truth I’ve only read the top two, before deciding to pass it on. Hoping those here with wider U. S. audiences will pass it along though.
as I am listening to the BBC, I can hear that there is a breathless coverage that WikiLeaks has a “shocking” release claiming that US spied on the French president;
I sense that the majority of people in this country have moved on – shrugging off all such reports.
I doubt that there is any country in the world that does not try to spy on other countries – that is if they have the means to do so;
What that news reminds me is that a traitor is still at large. But we should brace for all the fake outrage from France and other people over this “latest” news. But no one gets upset when it is revealed that those same countries have attempted to spy on the US.
Hopefully, President Francois Hollande will rise to the occasion and brush up what should be no news at all.
The German outrage lasted until the next meeting between PBO and Angela Merkel – the attempt by Snowden and those he calls his friends to do this during the Presidency of Barack Obama was a massive fail and continues to be so.
This picture reminds me of PBO and @VP “BFD” Biden at the ACA announcement — which seems appropriate since PBO’s WTF podcast was released online yesterday, LOL.
For those wondering what happened to former WH Chef (from 1994-2005) whose body was discovered this weekend — sadly he drowned. Apparently there were thunderstorms a few days after he set off on his hike — not sure what happened between Jun 13-16. Walter Schieb apparently moved to Taos three months ago. RIP 😦
Great song 🙂 ….I like him as a new judge on “So you think you can dance” but he almost gets nullified by having to hear Paula Abdul yapping during tryouts 😆
I was watching Rachel Maddow tonight and she had Myrlie Evers on her show and they were talking about what happen in Charleston. Myrlie Evers were talking about how she was mad with the Wall St. Journal, she said that paper call Dylann Roof Mister nine or ten times. I can see were she was coming from, that racists piece of crap doesn’t deserve to be call Mister, he doesn’t deserve the respect. The Wall St. Journal like alot of media doesn’t even give President Obama the respect owe him as President, alot of time all you hear is Obama, Obama. Not President Obama. But they are only to happy to call a killer Mister Dylann Roof.
‘car park spot’
😯 You *did* get her a car! O, you are such a ……daddy! Am quite pleased with you. Of course, since the apt is so close to college, she’ll only need the car on trips home. BTW, does this mean she didn’t leave the country to study abroad? You haven’t updated us in a while.
An air traffic control tower suddenly lost communication with a small twin engine aircraft. A moment later the tower land line rang and was answered by one of the employees.
The passenger riding with the pilot who lost communications was on a cellular phone and yelled “Mayday, mayday!! The pilot had an instant and fatal heart attack. I grabbed his cell phone out of his pocket and he had told me before we took off he had the tower on his speed dial memory. I am flying upside down at 18,000 feet and traveling at 180 mph. Mayday, mayday!!”
The employee in the tower had put him on speaker phone immediately. “Calm down, we acknowledge you and we’ll guide you down after a few questions. The first thing is not to panic, remain calm!!”.
He began his series of questions:
Tower: “How do you know you are traveling at 18,000 feet??”
Aircraft: “I can see that it reads 18,000 feet on the Altimeter dial in front of me.”
Tower: “Okay, that’s good, remain calm. How do you know you’re traveling at 180 mph?”
Aircraft: “I can see that it reads 180 mph on the Airspeed dial in front of me.”
Tower: Okay, this is great so far, but it’s heavily overcast, so how do you know you’re flying upside down?”
Aircraft” “The shit in my pants is running out of my shirt collar
I left this on an earlier thread when the discussion about jebush was underway, and feel perhaps a little more scrutiny could be offered, to really make the bugger squirm. He has no business pretending he can be president. #wevehadenoughbushes #eversotiredofhillary #ridin’withbiden
I’ve read similar articles. Not only did the Bush machine help build the NAZI empire but after wwII they also imported Nazis right here to the goood ole USA.
Why do I feel that all this hatred should be placed at the feet of John McCain because although he did not initiate racism, bringing Sarah Palin to the forefront seemed to unleash beast?
Truth nospin – she told people it was OK to hate the black man because – witch doctor, muslim, different, not one of us. McCain realised it was all she had – an ability to generate hate and keep the poor white vote republican – otherwise dumb as a post, as well displayed before the campaign banned all interviews.
Gabby Giffords and her friends/voters are the first that come to my mind when anyone mentions Palin. She is still grifting off those who share her views – 7 years later.
I really love those two men in the top picture….and I love it that they love each other……..I also love Denis McDonough on the right, because he is the absolute loyalist to PBO and a totally trusted adviser.
Just back from lovely day out w/Mom and two Aunts; while away huge storm — seems power has been out since around 5:00 pm. HEAR IT MIGHT NOT BE BACK UNTIL THURSDAY! No open hotel rooms in a 50 mile radius!
Meanwhile, in car charging phone and O2 condenser. Thank God for WAWA! Was able to plug in there to do a nebulizer treatment.
blatant idiocy. first all the congressional republicans meet on the day after pbo’s election and design a manifesto to block and disrupt his every move. then they work with their publicity people to make sure their derision and racist rejection of him as the country’s leader is constantly in the public’s consciousness. and finally, just to top it off, they condemn him for not inviting them to his parties and golf matches. everything to underscore their ‘superiority’.
All that and more. But what could be just another disgusting episode in our history … turns out to have been the “time of Obama” in our history books. As long as those schoolbooks aren’t written in Texas, of course.
enjoying a little smile at the headlines on ‘the hill’ right now: ‘obama poised for huge win on trade’, ‘ senate advances fast-track trade bill for obama’ , with a truly good photo of pbo at the top.
someone commented on pierce today that her giving cover to the rethug presidential candidates, by turning the nation’s attention to the flag and away from the actual racism and guns, is in exchange for her selection as the rethug vice-presidential candidate. sarcastic, but not still sounds pretty likely.
but but but…. what about the latino candidate himself? jeb!? or the latino-ish guy, cruz? or the semi-latino rubio? aren’t they all courting the latino voter? oh oh, wait… not till they’ve got the racist white voter in the bag.
If the decent and sensible whites (quite a majority of them are there despite the media pretensions and asskissing to racists and their enablers) along with latinos, blacks, asians and other non-privileged turn out, the thugs will be out of power everywhere for decades.
Whoever that is can take that rebel flag and stick it where the sun don’t shine as far as I am concern. They might as well tattoo the cymbal of hate on their skin, it is already in their heart.
FURST. 😎
ha, lp.
Yep. Congrats

The cops killed him. Period.
GE TODville.
RIP 😦
OMI = NM Office of the Medical Investigator
That’s so sad.
Evening folks.
But they are only to happy to call a killer Mister Dylann Roof.
off to apartment hunting for daughter unit. and I have only 8 hours to do it. wish me luck.
Well definitely–GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!
Good luck! I’m caught up for a minute, OMG! 🙀
_/I\_ You might need a few of these!! Miracles DO happen! They do! ❤
IT DID. FOUND IT. 😎
5 min walking from her college. Nice and quiet area. Fully furnished 2 bedroom. Car park spot. Airy and lighty.
Rent is a bit steep, but heh, when you gotta pay, you gotta pay.
Melikey. Waiting for daughter unit’s approval in another 5 hours. #fingerscrossed.
that was fast! hope she likes it 🙂
teh google is useful. occasionally.
I hope too.
Driving home ??? #NotHappening
She and her mom can take the friggin’ train. Just like I do.
smh, and hoping at this very moment you are having nightmares
OT
Ohh, yardarm 🙂 🙂

A bit of history: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2004/sep/25/usa.secondworldwar
I left this on an earlier thread when the discussion about jebush was underway, and feel perhaps a little more scrutiny could be offered, to really make the bugger squirm. He has no business pretending he can be president. #wevehadenoughbushes #eversotiredofhillary #ridin’withbiden
The only part that popped out at me was #ridin’withbiden !!! ❤
I’ve read similar articles. Not only did the Bush machine help build the NAZI empire but after wwII they also imported Nazis right here to the goood ole USA.
Dear god!!!! Ted Turner has to be wondering what would have been if he didn’t do that stupid merger with Time Warner..
Like I said last night….when Don Lemon enters my TL it may be time to call it a twitter night. Will see how long my sabbatical lasts!
CNN is based in Atlanta….more transitive proof the end times are near:
The only logical explanation?
what tha wut????? stfu!
I haven’t had time to watch this, but it popped up when I posted the above link to FB. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1Qt6a-vaNM
Damn MP this thing is 3 hours long.
I know, that is why I haven’t watched it!! I may have to take it in segments..
Me too. 🙂
And not starting tonight, too close to bedtime, don’t want all that in my head when it’s time for rest. ❤
Aye, aye. See ya on the flip GN.
i am laughing so hard at this! full disclosure– giants fan. 🙂
She is still grifting off those who share her views – 7 years later.
yes I watched Game Change the next night after the Charleston massacre and I thought John MCain did this to us.
I really love those two men in the top picture….and I love it that they love each other……..I also love Denis McDonough on the right, because he is the absolute loyalist to PBO and a totally trusted adviser.
Truly, they are a team for the ages.
Caorlyn i agree with you and yes Denis is a quiet loyal advisor. Thank God.
1st world problems…
Oh my goodness gracious, Alycee. Hope the power comes on much quicker!
Nite TOD, everyone try to rest. Big hugs all around.
The stupid. It makes the mind bleed.
blatant idiocy. first all the congressional republicans meet on the day after pbo’s election and design a manifesto to block and disrupt his every move. then they work with their publicity people to make sure their derision and racist rejection of him as the country’s leader is constantly in the public’s consciousness. and finally, just to top it off, they condemn him for not inviting them to his parties and golf matches. everything to underscore their ‘superiority’.
All that and more. But what could be just another disgusting episode in our history … turns out to have been the “time of Obama” in our history books. As long as those schoolbooks aren’t written in Texas, of course.
Who is this josh barro?
enjoying a little smile at the headlines on ‘the hill’ right now: ‘obama poised for huge win on trade’, ‘ senate advances fast-track trade bill for obama’ , with a truly good photo of pbo at the top.
Not hard to pick which face to spit into, when the choice was between these two Republican women.
Hope I don’t regret this.
It was exactly the correct response, Jacqueline. And, I know President Obama would be very proud of you for doing it.
good night TOD ……..
Thank you very much, Bob. I can sleep well now! And good night to you and TODville!
someone commented on pierce today that her giving cover to the rethug presidential candidates, by turning the nation’s attention to the flag and away from the actual racism and guns, is in exchange for her selection as the rethug vice-presidential candidate. sarcastic, but not still sounds pretty likely.
booby effing jindal. you have been warned. wingnutz will nevah accept your phony whiteyness.
The RWers of color are OK as long as they play their part and don’t upset the white wingnuts. After that, buh-bye.
yup, they are curry leaves. good for aroma and taste, but not eaten, just dumped into garbage.
will the latinos ever learn?
but but but…. what about the latino candidate himself? jeb!? or the latino-ish guy, cruz? or the semi-latino rubio? aren’t they all courting the latino voter? oh oh, wait… not till they’ve got the racist white voter in the bag.
If the decent and sensible whites (quite a majority of them are there despite the media pretensions and asskissing to racists and their enablers) along with latinos, blacks, asians and other non-privileged turn out, the thugs will be out of power everywhere for decades.
Tattoos! Who would have thought of that? They can all go around with tattoos so we’ll recognize ’em.
just when we thought they couldn’t get dumber…
Hopefully on her forehead. I’ll try to hold back my anger.
🙂
Whoever that is can take that rebel flag and stick it where the sun don’t shine as far as I am concern. They might as well tattoo the cymbal of hate on their skin, it is already in their heart.
whatever
Morning!
