A Tweet Or Two

This is sometimes what it means to be black in America

Jesus Christ

As a young U.S. Army soldier during World War II, Rollins Edwards knew better than to refuse an assignment. When officers led him and a dozen others into a wooden gas chamber and locked the door, he didn’t complain. None of them did. Then, a mixture of mustard gas and a similar agent called lewisite was piped inside. “It felt like you were on fire,” recalls Edwards, now 93 years old. “Guys started screaming and hollering and trying to break out. And then some of the guys fainted. And finally they opened the door and let us out, and the guys were just, they were in bad shape.”

Edwards was one of 60,000 enlisted men enrolled in a once-secret government program — formally declassified in 1993 — to test mustard gas and other chemical agents on American troops. But there was a specific reason he was chosen: Edwards is African-American. White enlisted men were used as scientific control groups. Their reactions were used to establish what was “normal,” and then compared to the minority troops.

Perfect example why Nikki Haley shouldn’t be applauded. If there wasn’t worldwide attention, she’d proudly and happily let that racist flag fly high

GOP? Your BS stinks

Screw you, Chuck Todd. The crap he tweeted is not an honest apology

The GOP truly has to ask itself why racists are so enamored of them. Donald Trump? Let the clown show officially begin

Yup. It’s hilarious the WHPC and others refuse to allow this nugget of truth to sink in

All of the tears. Bravo, Ms. J’OB! 😂

No clutching of pearls when white presidents used the n-word and did so much worse

All of the tea 🐸 ☕️

Can you imagine a black person who just murdered 9 white people being offered Burger King? *SMH*

NOTE: Not the first first. There are very helpful local hotlines that have been doing important work also

Funny how most racists vote GOP

Government at work

These are the same morons who whine about paying their fair share of taxes

Check and mate

Good point

The real question is why the heck Walmart sells that racist flag

Well, NW, you’ve taken it to a new level. TOD can readily claim to have a more compelling front page and news section than any printed paper in the US.

    Thank you!!!

Good evening Nerdy, Chips & TOD! Thanks Nerdy for the heads up on PBO’s Dinner event, and thanks for all of these wonderful informative tweets.

I think PBO has given the most eulogies of any recent sitting President.

Thanks Don. PBO dropping that word was a nuclear explosion. It’s just a fucking shame that it took 9 *more* dead for this country to look at itself in the mirror.

Yes it was, I sleep with my headphones on because I like listening to radio talk shows, so it was kinda strange waking up to President Obama drops the N-word in an interview. I was like did I really hear that.

U.S. is up 2-0 on Columbia with ~10 minutes left. This ref has been nuts. 3 yellow cards & 1 red card on Columbian goalie (Wambach missed the PK) but U.S. is going to be out Megan Rapinoe due to 2nd yellow in 3 games and another starting forward against China.

President Obama is going to have the most spectacular ‘4th Quarter’ in the history of the Presidency, to wit ….

“Fine-Tuning NSC Staff Processes and Procedures
Posted by Suzy George on June 22, 2015 at 07:00 PM EDT

The National Security Council (NSC) staff works (literally) around the clock to keep the American people safe, defend our interests and values, and advance U.S. and international security and prosperity. Together with our partners in departments and agencies across government, we’ve focused on responsibly ending wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and bringing the global economy back from the brink; decimating al-Qa’ida’s leadership and rebalancing to the Asia-Pacific; strengthening our alliances and forging critical new partnerships; bringing Iran to the table and transforming relations with Cuba; fighting climate change, and saving and improving countless lives. But this Administration’s 4th quarter has only just begun, and as President Obama likes to say, he’s a “4th quarter player.”

Driving the President’s ambitious national security agenda through January 20, 2017 requires an NSC staff that’s firing on all cylinders. And so, late last year, National Security Advisor Susan Rice initiated a review of NSC staff processes, structures, and staffing to determine if we could improve how we are organized to pursue the President’s priorities more effectively.

Extensive consultations with NSC staff and interagency colleagues generated great ideas for how to fine-tune the ways we operate. Based on this feedback, we are implementing an array of reforms to streamline many internal processes and procedures, reduce the number of interagency meetings, and enhance NSC staff connectivity with NSC leadership, among other things. These are changes that won’t be readily apparent from the outside, but, taken together, they are designed to result in fewer, more focused meetings, less paper to produce and consume, and more communication that yields better policymaking for the benefit of the American people.

Our review also grappled squarely with the fact that the NSC staff has consistently grown over the past few decades under Administrations of both parties. This one is no exception, as we have had to confront new and evolving national security challenges, integrate the previous Administration’s homeland security staff, and help the White House Situation Room adapt to a world of 24/7 news and social media.

To ensure the NSC staff is a lean, nimble, and policy-oriented organization, we are reversing the trend of growth across successive Administrations to align our staffing with our strategic priorities. This is not about downsizing for its own sake; it’s about gradually right-sizing the NSC staff. As Ambassador Rice told us recently, the heart and soul of the NSC staff is its people. There is no more talented, professional, and selfless group of public servants, and these measures are intended to allow them to focus on the important work they’re here to do.

It’s not often that we talk about inside baseball processes, but we’re proud of this initiative. Indeed, with these steps, our goal is to ensure the NSC staff, in conjunction with the interagency, is as effective and efficient as possible to make the most of the President’s 4th quarter.”

  23. June 22, 2015 at 10:21 pm

So yesterday Chuckie’s big take on MTP off their new poll was only 4% would mind having a Bush/Clinton in the WH and how all of sudden Jeb now has 75% of GOP primary voters seeing themselves able to possibly vote for him (previously 45%)…..nothing on this:

    Click to access 6_22_PollPDF.pdf

President Obama has a 48% approval rating and even with all the Bernie coverage today (5000 at CO rally) Hillary is dominating everyone:

“Seventy-five percent of national Democratic primary voters favor Clinton in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination – compared with 15 percent who pick Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., four percent who choose former Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., and two percent who select former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley. What’s more, 92 percent of Democratic voters say they could see themselves supporting Clinton for the Democratic nomination, which is up six points since March…..Looking ahead to the general election, Clinton also leads Bush by eight points (48 percent to 40 percent), Rubio by 10 points (50 percent to 40 percent) and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker by 14 (51 percent to 37 percent).

Believe I heard earlier that Mrs. Obama will be at the funeral on Friday, when the President delivers the eulogy. What I’m also worried about is that Vice President Biden was slated to attend, probably with Dr. Biden. He was able to keep it together (in public) for Beau’s funeral, but I’m afraid his grief is going to well up and perhaps overflow at this week’s service, since the two services are so close together. I realize he’s a very strong person, so I’m hoping I’m wrong. I’ll never forget how my own uncle “lost it” at my 16-year-old cousin’s funeral and in the days and weeks and months that followed, and that was in 1958. Nobody in my family will ever forget it!

God bless all of them, most especially the victims’ families in Charleston.

The US says an air strike in Iraq has killed an Islamic State (IS) militant linked to an attack on a US diplomatic compound in Libya three years ago.

The Pentagon says Ali Awni al-Harzi died on 15 June in the city of Mosul, which is controlled by IS.

He was designated as a terrorist by the US Treasury and state department.
