I watched the whole 2 hrs of MHP today on MSNBC today. It was Real, Honest, Profound, Respectful and Informative. She truly did a great job. I cried all through. I came here at TOD to calm down and collect myself. Thank you TOD for being here. This Oasis of a place is becoming a Sanctuary for my state of mind. You built that, you made it possible, with love and care……Lady Chips. I think you from the bottom of my whole Heart. Thank you very much.

So true, I come here all day long to find out what’s going on and to online newspapers. I get more truth here than on television I simply do not watch any local news unless I want to know what’s happening in my area but NO national news, cable news, etc., because it is all tainted. I watch very little MSNBC and I don’t listen to Stephanie Miller and Thom Hartman anymore. I truly miss Randi Rhoades I am glad she stuck around until PBO was re-elected, but happy she left radio because it’s just a vicious frustrating circle when it comes to politics and getting lazy people to get off their asses to vote in this country.

Should have added that through much of the MHP show, I was texting with my dear, dear, AA friend across town. She is hurting so very badly, like all of us here, but especially our AA family. As I told her, being white, I cannot possibly know exactly how she feels. Told her that I have decided that until the WHITE people in our country begin speaking out and speaking up and taking ACTION, no matter how small, we’re not going to see change. I have already begun to do the little thing I feel I can do, at least currently. That is the following:

On ANY thread I can (FB) or anything I can share, I am giving this message: That until millions stop watching/listening to Fox and right-wing radio, the hate and fear isn’t going to stop. I point out that 99% of what one hears those places is hate, fear and lies and when anyone listens to that 24/7, it becomes an integral part of his/her life. I’ve already done that at least a half dozen times in the past 2-3 days and will continue to do so. Also, on Monday, I am going to return to making frequent phone calls to my local, state and federal
politicians. As Joe Madison always asks: “What are you going to do about it?” These are small things, but it’s doing something. I just have to keep at it…….not do it for a week or so, then stop.

The problem per se is not pox news, whose audience is not that great. It’s the other news outlets – print media, msm and other cable noise, whose combined audience is many times more, trying emulate pox news.

I sometimes feel like I am a lone battler where I live. I am Irish American/Native American. I am on the rolls of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in Oregon. I only became aware of my Native heritage after my tribe was restored to tribal status. They were dissolved from my age of seven to age thirty-eight. Upon CTGR being restored I was living and teaching elementary school in Juneau, AK much to distant to participate in tribal activities. My students enjoyed my classroom poster proclaiming my tribal identity and my AK Native students beamed and opened up to me upon knowing this. It was not until I retired that I moved to the reservation. At that point I used my twenty-two years of teaching in public schools to give back to my tribe by serving on the tribal education committee for six years.

      June 20, 2015 at 12:44 pm

Now to the battle. I am in a rural setting with lots of conservative tea party like thinkers outside of the tribe. I meet weekly in an art group and have spoken out numerous times in defense of our President and my tribe. I have even walked out with explanation of why on one occasion when some would not stop disparaging PBO. That made an impact as when the person guilty of driving me out told the next person arriving of the incident expecting support got a reply of “regardless of your political leaning the President should be respected” she called me up to apologize and has toned down her criticisms. I have even heard others speak up to correct bigoted remarks since then. I knew we were about evenly split politically, but felt I was the only one defending PBO. Since my walkout that day others are now speaking up. One person can make a ripple effect. I deal with lots of tribal issue misrepresentations in this White group too. I look as White as they do so they forget my heritage when they speak. I admit that before I embraced my tribal identity I never experienced this bigotry firsthand. Not just White’s, but everyone needs to speak up.

Thank you 99ts for bringing Obama Grandmama’s comments to this post. It is so true that sometimes you won’t know what a person thinks of another unless they think they are talking amongst their own. I have had some white people say some incredible things about AA’s right to my face and I tell them they are only repeating lies they heard from someone else or on some racist show or made up in their minds based not on reality. My mom’s friend who looked white – blue eyes, curly blond hair, and white skin that would not tan. People would talk openly about their hate of AA’s to him until he told them he was AA which of course they did not believe him until they saw him with me and my mom. When they thought he was “white” he was treated much better then after finding out his true ethnicity he was treated with suspicion. What is really weird I started dating someone who looked a lot like my moms friend however he is white but when he is with me people stare at us wondering what race he is. That’s why it truly does not matter what race we are we are ALL the same…human beings and we need to start treating each other that way or this country, this world, will parish.

This video is a must see. It is the first time I have felt she might be a good President. She was caring, honest, authentic, and spoke from her heart. I saw a different side of her and I liked it. I hope she speaks in this manner more often. HRC starts at -1:59 and ends at -1:30 – well worth the 30 minutes.

  10. June 20, 2015 at 12:54 pm

Anyone listening to HRC? Well darn. MSNBC just cut away. What I heard was truly FANTASTIC. I am not a big HRC supporter, but have to say she is doing a fantastic job right now speaking to the Conference of Mayors.

A Dutch far-right leader says cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad will be broadcast on Dutch TV despite them not being aired as he intended on Saturday.

Geert Wilders said a “misunderstanding” with the network meant they were not broadcast on a slot on national TV allocated to political parties.

The controversial cartoons were shown at an event in the US last month that was attacked by two gunmen who were shot dead by security guards.

Mr Wilders was a speaker at that event.

The airing of the cartoons was supposed to be a key moment for Mr Wilders in what some Muslims have described as his crusade against Islam, according to the BBC’s Anna Holligan in The Hague.

But instead of cartoons, the slot allocated to Mr Wilder’s Freedom Party featured an old recording about migrants.

Very astute observation, PF. I hadn’t thought of it that way before. But you’re right. Enough Americans decided that killing children was an acceptable price to pay for owning guns and that shut down all chance of a rational discussion. Ironically, this was not the majority, but the power of the gun industry and NRA lobbyists, combined with the cowardice of legislators at all levels, doomed this country to continual, senseless loss of life.

      • June 20, 2015 at 3:06 pm

When Newtown occurred I thought for sure that there would be Ann irresistible call for gun control. When it started to fade away I thought that if this didn’t motivate people, 20 small children in a school where their parents trusted them to be safe, nothing would. And yet, apparently national polls indicated something like 97% were in favor of stricter controls. It’s been fading ever since. People address more fearful but seem to prefer that to doing the work of making change happen. My school had to install expensive buzzer entry systems in the schools. They are utterly useless but they seem to pacify the parents. Then they vote in legislators who fight against gun control.

    another great bj comment

The unemployed high school dropout with the vacant stare of a mole rat and an Ish Kabibble haircut thought blacks had low IQs, and so he shot a group of successful, college-educated black people.

He should be locked up and forced to endure what Kalief Browder (an innocent man) suffered.

The epitome of everything he is not. He either has to believe that the people he thinks are little better than savages outclassed him on their own merits making him the loser of all losers or they got there by sneaky, illegitimate means (they’re trading over our country!!) making him an innocent victim.

Good afternoon mates…This scripture sums up my feelings from the past few days. It was taken from Lamentations 3.

    “You have covered yourself with anger and pursued us;
    you have slain without pity.
You have covered yourself with a cloud
so that no prayer can get through.
You have made us scum and refuse
    among the nations.

“All our enemies have opened their mouths
    wide against us.
We have suffered terror and pitfalls,
    ruin and destruction.”
Streams of tears flow from my eyes
    because my people are destroyed.

    My eyes will flow unceasingly,
    without relief,
    until the Lord looks down
    from heaven and sees.
What I see brings grief to my soul
because of all the women of my city.

Those who were my enemies without cause
    hunted me like a bird.
They tried to end my life in a pit
    and threw stones at me;
the waters closed over my head,
and I thought I was about to perish.

I called on your name, Lord,
from the depths of the pit.
You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears
    to my cry for relief.”
You came near when I called you,
and you said, “Do not fear.”

    You, Lord, took up my case;
    you redeemed my life.
Lord, you have seen the wrong done to me.
    Uphold my cause!
You have seen the depth of their vengeance,
    all their plots against me.

Lord, you have heard their insults,
    all their plots against me—
what my enemies whisper and mutter
    against me all day long.
Look at them! Sitting or standing,
they mock me in their songs.

Pay them back what they deserve, Lord,
for what their hands have done.
Put a veil over their hearts,
and may your curse be on them!
Pursue them in anger and destroy them
from under the heavens of the Lord.

I see Mitt Romney getting high praise on Twitter for his comments about the confederate flag. But I recall the SAME Mitt Romney and his son stooping to the lowest common denominator of racist dogwhistles when it suited them – during the 2012 campaign, when they both made references to our President’s birth certificate on separate occasions.

So Romney can miss me with his newfangled preachment of racial tolerance, after 9 people have lost their lives – in part due to the complicity of influential politicians like him and those in the media who supported him.
