Thanks for these tweets, NW. You do such a great job of capturing events in powerful ways. I feel so sad for this country and the families impacted by this latest act of racism. This cannot be 2015.

  15. 34 sabreen60
    June 18, 2015 at 11:54 am

    Thank you Nerdy.

    I. just. can’t.

What is the answer? There are 100’s of millions of guns in the public domain. The genie is out the bottle. Background checks may help in the future, but what in the world do we do NOW? The conservatives on the SCOTUS who wrongly interrupted the Constitution to mean every single citizen can have as many guns as they want and almost any kind of gun they want BUILT THIS.

Hate radio, TV and hateful politicians BUILT THIS. The Constitution has been interpreted to mean people can say all the hate they want on public airwaves. FOX is front and center in creating and maintaining hate 24/7. What other civilized country allows this? Shit, what uncivilized country allows this?

I was a kid in the 50’s and 60’s. I know what overt racism is – not being allowed in certain department stores, theaters, amusement parks, etc. Yes, in Washington DC. People forget DC is the south. But the big difference is everybody didn’t have guns and there was no hate TV. There were forms of racism on TV and radio, but not like today.

I am heartbroken and angry. I’m done with marching and singing. I want action. I want good WHITE PEOPLE to stand up and say ENOUGH! This is there problem. They don’t want us here – in the country we built with our manual labor. TOO DAMN BAD. Because we’re not leaving. So GOOD WHITE FOLKS you need to initiate, in public, a conversation about the racism in this country. And with silence you are COMPLICIT.

    Rant over.

    • June 18, 2015 at 12:12 pm

      Beautiful, powerful rant.

    • 36 edp4bho
      June 18, 2015 at 12:38 pm

Amen ! But we need to know the percentage of good white folks to know if any difference would be made- by this I mean those who would dare to speak up without fear of reprisal. God is watching us all !

    • 37 Judith Fardig
      June 18, 2015 at 12:39 pm

Sabreen, as a white person myself, I am trying my best to do just that. It’s a big part of why I work with OFA, lobby for gun sense legislation, fight for fairness for working people and poor folks who most often ARE working people. White people must not continue to tolerate racism in any form.

It saddens me that people are shocked that something like this can happen in 2015. The shooter said what a lot of people are thinking…”You people are taking over our County” “You have to be stopped”.

The overwhelming re-election of a black man as President has shaken a lot of people to the core.

The people are talking like this is an isolated incident.

      Wake up America!

      That’s right.
It is not about gun violence, only.
4 little girls were killed in a church without any guns present.

Our fight needs to be about the state allowing visible signs of hate in public places. Confederate flags were banned from license plates in Texas. Upheld by The Supreme Court this morning. That is a good start.

    • 93 57andfemale
      June 18, 2015 at 1:27 pm

It was a POLITICAL act of violent terrorism. It’s ALL about our politics and our politicians who support this madness in the name of “freedom”.

Do worshippers have the “freedom” to feel safe in their churches? Do citizens have the “freedom” to feel safe at shopping malls and movie theaters? Do people have the “freedom” to not fear for their lives if they honk the horn at someone?

This is madness. This is the breakdown of civil society and the basic common sense and decency that a society should be able to expect in order to function. It is POLITICAL that the GOP supports this, that the leaders NEVER come out and condemn it for what it is, that they refuse to pass laws to make gun owners responsible for their “freedom” so that we all have “freedom”.

      I am sick of it.

    GM/GA TODville.

I’ve made the comment a couple of times here that this unspeakable massacre occurred at a time that MSM has a bloated 2016 news-staff covering too few stories.

Tucson happened before 2012 campaigns were really underway, Sandy Hook a month after 2012 election.

Charleston is front and center. @POTUS and @VP have opened the door to encourage MSM to defy their NRA overlords this time.

Americans are phoney liars when it comes to guns. They want to be able to get a gun immediately when THEY need it but not for anyone else.
