“The Navy’s new Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) is a fully electric and railgun-like way of launching fighter jets and drones off an aircraft carrier and into the sky (distinct from the Navy’s literal railgun). A unit on the USS Gerald Ford started testing with a weighted sled earlier this month, but a recent video shows a new, impressive feat: Making a weighted sled that weighs as much as a car literally skip like a stone.

The sled in question here appears to be the same 7,900-pound sled launched in the system’s inaugural test, but the EMALS system has the capability to scale much higher. These dead-load tests will eventually see the electromag catapult flinging payloads of 80,000 pounds, more than the average fighter jet. The system isn’t perfect yet. The first shot of yesterday’s first public test didn’t work according to the Navy Times, though after media left there were some successful fires, including the one that sent four tons of steel skipping across the water. Once its perfected, the electric EMALS system will replace the steam-powered catapults that have traditionally launched fighters off aircraft carriers, catapults that require a ton of space as well as stores of fresh water because salty sea water is too caustic to be used straight from the ocean. Whats more, those catapults couldn’t handle drones whereas these can…continued”

Wanted: One woman, deeply representative of American democracy. Her image will appear on millions of U.S. currency notes beginning in 2020. U.S. law mandates that she must also rank among the dead. Late Wednesday, the Treasury Department announced that a long-planned redesign of the $10 bill will feature a number of security upgrades designed to complicate the work of counterfeiters. Oh, and it will also include another little change too: The image of a still-to-be named American woman, something that has not been featured on U.S. paper currency since the 19th century. (Right now, Sacagawea appears on the dollar coin.) When it comes to the new $10 bill, the Treasury Department envisions a shiny happy contest, online and off, in which millions of Americans will nominate the woman they believe belongs on the $10. But with only some of the criteria difficult to debate – she must be American and no longer alive – and the remainder about as subjective as they come – a figure representative of democracy and our nation’s values – get ready for all manner of ideological debates and rivalries to begin.

Officially, the woman who will be featured on the nation’s new $10 bill will be selected later this year after Americans get their chance to weigh in on which woman and images best represent the spirit of American democracy at town hall meetings, online via a special Treasury Department Web site and using the hashtag #thenew10 on social media. Yes, that does mean Twitter. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told reporters Wednesday night that he will likely discuss options suggested by the public with President Obama (who just may hear a few words on the new $10 from a certain woman named Michelle). But Lew will ultimately make the final decision. The content of most U.S. currency lies within the purview of the treasury secretary. The $1 bill is the only exception…continued”

LMAO – So Jeb Bush went on Jimmy Fallon to “slow jam the news.” It’s amazing how these GOPers claim to hate PBO so much, yet they try to imitate him at every opportunity. Sorry Jeb, but no amount of slow jamming on Jimmy Fallon will help your candidacy. #FAIL.

    • June 17, 2015 at 10:18 pm

      June 17, 2015 at 11:05 pm

I also saw him campaignng in someone’s yard. This also has PBO’s signature written on it.

      • 47 hopefruit2
        June 17, 2015 at 11:17 pm

David Axelrod has been all over the damn place blabbing out PBO’s campaign strategies and techniques…so of course, the Republicans have copied it all. They couldn’t wait to get their grubby & grimy little paws on PBO’s Campaign Manual!

        • 48 carolyn
          June 17, 2015 at 11:38 pm

They can copy the actions all they want, it won’t help. They don’t have the authentic candidate which is why the strategies worked. Thinking about lumpy Jeb trying to slow-jam the news is a joke. He can’t do anything that cool……he is uptight, boring and graceless. He can copy all he wants…….he and his group are too stupid to know it’s not the strategies, it’s the person.

Love the photos of the girls shopping, it’s fun to see them being teenagers. Hard to believe when I think back to 2007-2008. But they are growing up to be gorgeous young women. No surprise given their parentage:-) Again, thank you for this!
