On This Day – Pete Souza: “Call him the baby soother. At the Congressional picnic on the South Lawn, the First Lady held a young baby who began crying (top photo). The President then came over to hold the same baby and was able to quiet her down as the First Lady reacted in astonishment in the background of the bottom photo.” June 15, 2011

Morning all and thanks, Chips, for the morning tonic of our Baby Whisperer in Chief. This is going to be one heck of a week and I’m bracing for impact.
Goooooooood morning to ya, Jackie!
gm jackie – enjoy the rest of your weekend – try and leave the worry until you see the doc – and by then it will be too late to worry. Well – its a thought – but hard to action – take care of yourself
and – WTG on 1st
Thanks, 99ts. Summer brings with it a lot of Democratic Party related tasks that take oodles of time and energy. It also means dealing with anti-TPP local Dems who drive me crazy with their constant carping. This week all that summer work comes together in a lot of planning sessions. The TAA vote is scheduled in Congress on Tuesday, which will stir everyone up.
Hope it all goes well – I am so amazed at the time spent in the US on politics. We have elections that last 6 weeks – then spend out time celebrating or complaining for the next 3 years – a different world almost!
Good Morning, JackieG! A simple reminder here that you virtual family is with you in thought, with loads of good wishes – you are, virtually, not alone.
For some strange reason I seem to be losing the ‘r’ in ‘your’ fairly often these days. I wonder why?
Thanks, VC. That means a lot.
Blimey – I got mixed up with your days – the weekend is no doubt flown – I’m well out of kilter at this point in my life!
You’ve caught Chips-ism? Hi, TS, how’s the landscaping coming?
Hi vc – things have moved very fast on the home front. Some quite good news for a future sharing. As MightyP knows – a long road to the downsizing etc – but we might be close to the end of it all.
Congrats! Sharing of good news is always welcome. 🙂
So after I wrote that – we lost a power circuit in the house – I’m thinking it’s probably related to the dishwasher, but why would it take another 3 hours before taking out the power? So we have turned the power off on the dishwasher (took 5 minutes to find where the plug is) turned the power back on & waiting to see what happens next. This is not supposed to be happening at this time.
Hope it’s already come back on in the meantime! If it ain’t one thing, it is another! Sigh. I gather your circuit is not on a breaker system? Usually you’d just have to reset the breaker system and not have to wait to see what happens. Hang in there anyways, there is an end in sight.
Yea – its on a breaker system – have to be by law here since about 2000 when super fast special whatevers were introduced (and they were expensive to install) – we just had to turn it back on at the circuit box – but are wondering what caused it – and if it was the dishwasher why did it take 3 hours! Still on as I type! everything crossed
😀 crossing fingers along with you
Nice to see you in first, Jackie. Yep – quite a week for you personally and for our nation. Hoping for some good news on all fronts!
So – 1st world problem. The dishwasher died – 2 years and 2 months old – warranty is – you guessed it – 2 years.
GM TOD may your day be a good one
You know, 99ts, I used to laugh at people who claimed today’s gadgets are programmed to expire after a year or two (what’s the term again?), I reckoned they were fruitloop conspiracy theorists. But too-many-to-count of my housie machines and gadgets have done exactly what your dishwasher has done. Crikey, my parents’ first dishwasher lasted about 20 years!!
It’s planned obsolescence ……..
———————————————-
a policy of producing consumer goods that rapidly become obsolete and so require replacing, achieved by frequent changes in design, termination of the supply of spare parts, and the use of nondurable materials.
———————————————–
“planned obsolescence”
That’s it!
My last dishwasher lasted 15 years – I only replaced it because the water seals had gone & it was almost as cheap to get a new one as to get them replaced. Seems I chose the wrong option.
use & throw chinese crap is the norm of the day.
Good morning, TOD Family! You keep me going with this community of humor respect admiration connection compassion and energy for truth and goodness. Thank you for all of it, Mighty Chips; thankful for NerdyWonka and BT’s and all you dear ones. Could not get by without all this help from all you friends. Congrats on First, jackiegrumbacher, and good morning 99ts!
Goooooooooooood moooooooooorning {{Nancie}}!!
psycho awake.
psycho asleep.
When I saw “psycho awake” I thought you were talking about yerself.
Look at the little sweetie, cracks me up when they sleep on their back!
Speaking of psycho, they are re-releasing the movie “Psycho” on the big screen for a one-time showing on two days in this September. For those of us who weren’t born or were too young to see the 1960 release, this is a chance of a lifetime.
I’m sure you can’t wait to go see it Chips! 🙂 🙂
OMG, on a big screen??? As if it didn’t freak me out enough on the teeny screen!1!1!1!
Then you must prepare for an even BIGGER freak-out! That’s the whole point LOL. 🙂 🙂
In 1960 I lived in a very small town – the one and only movie theatre never showed any movies less than 5 years old – by the time Psycho would have arrived, TV had taken over and the movie theatre was closed down.
hoo u callin’ psycho?
Well…………..
AMK, I’m old enough to remember when Tony Perkins was a handsome young actor with a great future as a leading man. Loved him in “Friendly Persuasion” and in the Broadway production of “Look Homeward Angel.” Once he did Psycho, he was typecast as a misfit and never again played a romantic lead. At the time, I found that very sad.
I agree Jackie. I loved him in Friendly Persuasion. I had nightmares about Psycho for many years.
He’s getting big…….
the last appendage looks like the dick that he is.
Clampett?
ha!
Jeb! No Bush 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does he think no one will notice that he’s a Bush?
What a jackass.
apparently the corrupt media including bbc doesn’t.
Oh, an old favourite! Thanks, Ceecee. I actually watched it three times this morning, grinning, of course. 🙂 [You know *one* of the things that struck me at the time was the relationship between Potus and Flotus – and not just the humour they obviously share. At the time I was quietly struck by the fact that when PBO said ‘You’d better give her back’, MRO responded right away, yet immediately after she handed the baby to him. I liked the dynamics of that entire ‘play’!
Wouldn’t it be sweet to get a follow-up picture of that baby with the president at this year’s picnic!
Greetings again, TODobots! I’m here for a bit while I wait for the business day to start and my phone to start ringing with lots of questions that have no answers.
G’morning Chips, TOD, even amk, lurkers, and congrats Jackie on #1! Happy Monday everyone. 🙂
Thank you! That bit were POTUS got the little baby to stop crying and FLOTUS reaction brought a smile to my face. And that one of them standing there looking at the beautiful Chicago skyline is lovely.
I love that babe video too anniebella – the young girl who thinks it is such fun is quite adorable as well.
Good morning, Chipstar and TODville.
The last photo looks so wistful……I wonder, is it even possible for POTUS and FLOTUS to move back to Chicago? Is there an area where they can have the appropriate security and privacy they surely will need?
Morning Ms Majestic!!
amazing that vile name is even in the contention.
The sad thing about the GOP presidential candidates is that each one is worse than the other, no matter which end of the line you start with. Some of them truly sound like psychopaths with their lust for endless war and for ending all social supports so that the poor can suffer and the rich can enjoy unlimited wealth. And no matter how sick they are, one of these seriously damaged individuals is going to be nominated for President by the Republican Party and will get at least 47 percent of the vote. We’re supposed to take Scott Walker seriously–a Howdy Doody look alike with little education and a bullying personality who ruined the state of Wisconsin and is a certified sock puppet of the Koch brothers. How did the US sink so low?
at least with the other kkklowns, there is a freshness factor. hasn’t the shrub family done enough damages to murka? how could people be so dumb?
JackieG, that’s the question I silently ask myself from time to time – How has the US sunk so low that it cannot see the danger in showcasing so many idiots as presidential hopefuls? That candidates – GOP or Dem – who are woefully inappropriate because of their ignorance haven’t been laughed off the stage? I know freedom of speech is extolled in the US, but it’s my belief that there should have been a medium (read as ‘MSM’) that systematically presented the background of each candidate so average voters could clearly see the embarrassment most of these people are.
Some details about that “secret” WH party on the weekend featuring Prince & Stevie Wonder!! 🙂
// Prince played two shows in Washington, DC, on Sunday, but he also gave a private VIP performance at the White House on Saturday night to celebrate African-American Music Appreciation Month. Spies exclusively told Page Six that the “Raspberry Beret” singer brought Stevie Wonder up onstage for a surprise duet at the show for President Barack and Michelle Obama and 500 lucky guests.
Spotted at the exclusive two-hour concert — during which Prince played hits including “Kiss” and “Purple Rain” — were Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his date, singer Ciara, artists Jon Bon Jovi and James Taylor, TV & film stars Tyler Perry, Connie Britton, Angela Bassett, Gayle King, Tracee Ellis Ross, fashion designer Naeem Khan and J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons. //

Best Prince Song just happens to be attached to this.!!!!!!
Thanks, Linda! This made my afternoon.
I’m so jealous!
good news of the day.
Connecticut-based gun maker Colt Defense has filed for bankruptcy protection, as it grapples with a heavy debt load.
The company says it plans to continue its normal business operations during its restructuring.
The company is struggling with more than $350m (£225m) in debt, as well as waning sales.
Colt’s fortunes were hurt by a loss of a contact in 2013 to supply the US army with its M4 assault rifle.

Thanks, AMK. It cheers me up to see any gun manufacturer go out of business.
they’ll prolly ‘restructure’ and come back like zombies.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has said his government will wait patiently for international creditors to become “realistic”, after talks on a debt deal in Brussels failed.
Mr Tsipras rejected demands for pension cuts, citing his country’s dignity.
Time is running out for Greece to unlock bailout funds from the EU and IMF and a European Commission spokesman said “significant gaps” remained.
///
Speaking to Greek newspaper Ton Syntakton, Mr Tsipras warned that “further cuts to pensions after five years of looting under the bailouts can only be viewed as serving political expediency”.
“We will patiently wait until creditors turn to realism. We have no right to bury the European democracy in the land where it was born.”

krakenpost.Chips, I know you won’t be too excited, but Prince Harry will be hosting Sasha & Malia when they visit London tomorrow – they’re leaving DC today for Europe!
// The family flies to the UK on June 15 for a week-long tour of Britain and Italy to promote Mrs Obama’s Let Girls Learn initiative.
Their first stop will be at Mulberry School for Girls, where Mrs Obama will host a roundtable discussion with the Director of Research for Equitable Access and Learning Centre at Cambridge University and a Peace Corps volunteer. Julia Gillard, former prime minister of Australia and a strong advocate for girls education, will join after for a Q&A session.
On June 16, they will meet with Prince Harry as well as Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha. No doubt the fifth in line to the throne will have plenty to talk to Malia and Sasha about, having experienced life as a teen in the limelight. //

India is preparing for the first ever International Yoga Day which will be celebrated on Sunday. India has taken the lead among the 192 countries that are participating. 😎
Wow! What amazing flexibility! I wonder how many bones I would break, or how many joints I would dislodge if I tried this?
🙂 🙂 LOL – Well, I wonder the same thing Jackie, but I’m not going to try it to find out! Ha!
I iz that flexible…. many
moonsbirths ago. You’ve shattered my belief so now I’m not as sorry I hadn’t taken up yoga or any other activity seriously. Previously I’d thought once ‘that flexible’ in youth, one would always be flexible! Thanks for alleviating my exercise (or lack thereof) guilt. 😀
GM HF, you’re full of good news this morning 😊
Your sharing this reminded me of this quote, Hopefruit.
Good for you, James Taylor! On the mark!
Isn’t it great? It’s what all sensible people know – just wish more of them would speak up like this.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
The Vatican is to put its former envoy to the Dominican Republic, Jozef Wesolowski, on trial on child sex abuse and child pornography charges.
Pope Francis has also accepted the resignations of a US archbishop and his deputy, accused in Minnesota of having ignored a priest’s child abuse.
Jozef Wesolowski is accused of sexually abusing children in the Dominican Republic from 2008 to 2013. He is under house arrest in the Vatican.
The trial is to begin on 11 July.
Wesolowski, 66, is also charged with possession of child pornography, dating from his return to Rome in 2013.

well, at least the big dood is seen doing something about this criminality.
Good Monday Morning TOD family and Chipsticks. Another Monday that will be left in the dust before we know it……it will be Friday again.
🙂 🙂 🙂
P.S. Are you feeling better GGail?
Hey Jojo, no rushing the week by! I’m hoping to savour this week …at least if it brings sunshine. Good MONDAY Morning, to you!
Good morning jojo 🙂
Yes, I’m on the mend. I finally broke my fever on Saturday and I’m at work today with less congestion. I should be all well by the time I see my doctor this Friday. 😀 😀
How are you and your kitties doing?
Hiya VC and GGail….it is a sunny morning in SoCal heading into the low 90’s this week with less marine layer. I’ve already started using my air conditioner this weekend. The kitties are doing well and my older kitty had some health issues but she is fine now. Thanks for asking.
Then those that drink should be fired too……
Morning all. Safe travels for FLOTUS and the girls.
If hillary loses to this klowns bunch, she is unfit for politics.
ANOTHER NASTY MAGAZINE COVERING THE SHELVES AND QUICKLY BEING PURCHASED…MICHELLE OBAMA AND HER SECRET SERVICE AGENT AND THE HUMILIATION OF THE PRESIDENT!…NOT FUNNY!..THE WH NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO FILE LAWSUITS!
I LOVE MY PRESIDENT…AND THIS MAKES ME EXTREMELY ANGRY!
When I spy crap that like in the checkout line, I turn it upside down and backwards, Sue.
Me too Judith….
I DID WORSE…IT HAS A PERMANENT CREASE IN IT!
love our FLOTUS!!
rikyrah, with you 100% love our FLOTUS too. I wish POTUS were able to travel with FLOTUS and the girls to England and Italy.
POTUS owe FLOTUS a trip back to India to see the Taj Mahal. That is the place they were going to visit the last time they were in India, but because the Saudi king had died they cancel that tour and went to pay there respect.
Good Morning, Everyone 🙂
❤
Good morning TOD families. I am going on a rant this morning about the msm. Most of our local papers here in Montana are owned by the Lee Corporation. After our last legislative session The Lee Corporation decided to close down their political reporters our of Helena. This means none of our local papers have a reporter reporting on the state government. Can you believe this. Our local paper The Missoulian is becoming a trash rag. I have very personal experience in their tatics. Both my son and my daughter in law work in the school system. My DIL is a vice principal of one of the HS. She became involved in an affair. This story broke last September on the front page of the newspaper. She and the principal were suspended. He quit, she was transfered to another school. The stories the paper put our were all half truths, never verified because the files weren’t open. They have continued this story on and off for the whole school year. A day after school was out another front page story. Needless to say my son and DIL are separated. But the stories never tell the whole truth. They have never told about the years of wonderful service she has given to the students, never a mark on her at all. We all make mistakes but living it in the public and seeing your children go thru it has broken my heart. My hatred for the media is so strong. I will say that the community has had enough. The calls, the online comments, etc have all been in support. This is why I love coming here. Knowing there is support for this President for all his is put thru is just breaking my heart. Thank you all for your support of this wonderful President. And for everyone in this great community.
SCOTUS decisions coming…….
Nope, nothing.
Some good news from SCOTUS:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/06/15/1393378/-Supreme-Court-Rejects-North-Carolina-Appeal
oops – should have scrolled down one more. Thanks, Linda!
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from North Carolina to revive a requirement that abortion providers show and describe an ultrasound to the pregnant woman before she has an abortion.
The justices on Monday left in place an appeals court decision that said the 2011 North Carolina law was “ideological in intent” and violated doctors’ free-speech rights.
The North Carolina law would have required abortion providers to display and describe the ultrasound even if the woman refused to look and listen — a mandate that the court found particularly troublesome.
The Guttmacher Institute says North Carolina is among 23 states, mostly in the South and the Midwest, that passed laws dealing with the administration of ultrasounds by abortion providers.
Justice Antonin Scalia voted to hear the appeal.
excellent result despite a dubious free-speech reasoning. fuck the nc scumbags.
