A Tweet Or Two

Some of these prosecutors really are the worst

What a despicable human being

Her parents told the Washington Post she attended Howard on a full scholarship based on a portfolio of “exclusively African American portraiture,” and that the university “took her for a black woman.”

Eric Guster, a civil rights attorney based in Birmingham, Ala., told AlterNet that if Dolezal did, in fact, earn a scholarship to Howard that was reserved for a black person, she could face a civil lawsuit for fraud from the people who sponsored it. “If it was earmarked for minorities and she utilized those funds and she is not a minority, that would be a problem,” Guster said.

Dolezal has claimed she was a victim of racism in the past. On her staff biography at Eastern Washington University, where she serves as a part-time professor of Africana Studies, Dolezal claims to have been the victim of at least eight hate crimes because of her racial justice work. A recent report from Inlander has questioned some of those claims.

Some conservatives truly are stupid. This is not only in Texas. A lot of states that people wouldn’t think of, have some form of open and campus carry. Your state just might be one

What a HERO Ed Snowden is. Allow the U.S. enemies to see valuable information that he stole, but yet in some folks minds he is a hero. Not in mines.

  4. June 13, 2015 at 7:41 pm

This Rachel Dolezal thing is 10,000 ways of fucked up. And what gets me is that her stans – mostly if not all white – are saying she did nothing wrong. Like black folk should be glad someone tried to “pass” as one of them. Throughout US history, African Americans have been denied their very humanity, and now they should be glad that a white woman passed herself off as one of them, using their struggles for her own ends. Fucking amazing.

    • June 13, 2015 at 7:46 pm

“Like black folk should be glad someone tried to “pass” as one of them.”

I’ve seen tweets like that all day, LL, and the ‘progressives’ who wrote them actually didn’t even get what so repulsive about that sentiment. Translation: ‘Calm down black people, you should be honored that a white lady wanted to be one of you!’

I think I’m going to be sick.

  5. June 13, 2015 at 7:42 pm

Ah Nerdy, this is an even more outstanding collection than usual – I will never, ever, ever get my head around the Rachel Dolezal story, it’s head-wrecking.

But I will laugh forever at the Dr Seuss teacher tweet, it’s magnificent!!!! 😆

and you are right about gun laws…

because i lived in Philadelphia county…open carry was not an issue…

but in other counties…open carry activists have taken advantage of ambiguous gun laws to open carry….and before Corbett left office he and the GOP legislature passed a law that gave standing to the NRA to sue counties that attempted to pass laws regarding gun control…Philadelphia is in court now…

so there are different kinds of crazy…TX crazy and PA Crazy…

thank God that Wolf was elected…dare i say that he was elected because he embraced the President…yes i dare to say it

Lucky me—tuned in to TOD after a day out, just in time to read all the newsy tweets Nerdy has bestowed on us once again.
    Thank you, Nerdy.

Glenn Greenwald, Markos from Daily Kos, Elizabeth Warren, Ed Shultz and HRC started life out as GOP.

Burlington VT has a population of 42, 000 and Bernie Sander’s appearance there drew 5000 people they could count and who knows how many more.

Roosevelt Island where HRC appeared today, has a population of 10,000 and is in between Manhattan and Queens, in the middle of NYC which has a population of 9 Million or so.

5000 people counted and with tickets filled the space where HRC appeared. A spillover space had been prepared but was entirely empty.

NYC weather today was spectacular. warm, breezy, perfect day

I think they are getting a whole lot more push back on their disgusting treatment of the President and abandonment of workers by their no vote than they expected and are now using the ” rubbed us the wrong way ” excuse for cover.
Hope they know that if they continue to say no, the attack ads about abandoning workers will be produced and may matter in many of their congressional races.

    • June 13, 2015 at 9:43 pm

I want to let the House Dems know that their vote and disrespect of President Obama rub me the wrong way. And if they even have any thought of keeping the W.H. or gaining control of the Senate again they better be very careful with their disrespect of this President.

    • June 13, 2015 at 11:01 pm

Cry me a river. They are so self-centered.

The biggest problem of President Obama is he overestimates the maturity and integrity of his fellow democrats. All this talk about “oh he just comes to see us when he’s in trouble”. As if congress people needed the president to cajole them all year long. As if they are not RESPONSIBLE enough to debate legislation on the merits, by themselves. As if the desire to serve their fellow americans was, in itself, NOT ENOUGH TO MOTIVATE THEM. But no… they want the president to be friends with them, they want to have cocktails in the White House, they want the president to tell them how important they are, and on and on…

In short, the president makes the mistake of believing that his fellow democrats are like him, that they will put the people before their own egos, and their own interests.

Making a moral argument doesn’t work with people who don’t prioritize morality and integrity. It backfires. I’m not surprised that the president’s intervention “rubbed them the wrong way”. Sigh…

Michigan is also doing this: http://www.mlive.com/education/index.ssf/2012/09/new_michigan_policy_linking_we.html – cutting welfare benefits based on school attendance. The article says “educators” are in favor of this. I don’t see how they could be. This is instead of investing in schools. “What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?” declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.” -Isaiah 3:15

BTW, the 11 June tweet was sent in 2013 and the 18 Apr tweet was sent in 2014 ….

And, fact remains that because of their colossal egos Greenwald, Poitras and Gellman all incriminated themselves when they let slip that they had been interacting with Snowden months before Snowden took the Booz Allen job.

it is astounding the amount of damage these scumbags (snowden, greenwald, poitras (can’t be bothered to get the correct spelling of her name) did to those who put it all on the line doing things I would never be strong enough to do.

as for the media who hypes them, and the loud crowd that hides their O-hatred behind libertarian pronouncements, ….. I have no words that can capture what I think of them.

By the way, after many in the gop expressed an initial reflexive support of these scumbags, I seem to notice that most of them saw the magnitude of their error and they no longer put the document stealers (aka agents of putin and china) on a pedestal

    so now some dems want to hide the stupid and cowardly TAA vote behind : “PBO hurt our feelings”;

some of us read the reports of what POTUS said to the Dem caucus.

    Based on that these Dem cowards want us to believe that PBO hurt their feelings by challenging them to use their conscience and take the right vote;

do these people stop and ponder how it sounds to us voters when you an elected official says that a challenge for you to do what is right “hurts your feelings and causes you to vote against your constituents”?

    heavens let this stupidity stop!

Why would anyone ask people to help Snowden? He deserves nothing. He has caused more damage than others who have been convicted as spies.

    • June 13, 2015 at 11:17 pm

Help Edward Snowden, sure what can I do? Should I go visit him when he is in prison, or write him when he is in prison? Bake him a cake with a file in it when he is in prison. I’ll be glad to help Snowden, but first he must be put in prison.

On a previous thread I supported Rachel’s right to choose her racial identity. But after reading some of her comments in public spaces, it seems as though she retained her white privileged framework while donning some of the habiliments of a black body, e.g. kinky curly hair and colored skin. What gives her away as a white woman is this attribution “Rachel Dolezal says people who question her ethnicity do not “deserve a platform.” Also as a black woman, I would have assumed she was white, not by what she told me but by how she treated me. There is a difference. Also, I think was a problem with the vetting. If Rachel has been a AA #lightgirl, then during her job interview she should have reflected on what that journey was like through early, middle and late adolescence. Because it can be a very hard process for both light and dark AA girls. Unfortunately, I believe she must be fired from her NAACP position, part-time teaching positions and from any volunteer position in which her apppropriation of blackness was essential to her hiring or selection.

Hi Idon, after the little bits and pieces about Rachel that I read today I’m shocked but still somewhat confused. I’ve decided I’m simply going to wait for this unbalanced person’s moments of notoriety to fade from the public dialogue.

I think I’m with you, vc. I really won’t loose a lot of sleep worrying about this…that said, she seems to have defrauded deserving people a chance at scholarships SHE benefited from…as a fraud. This is what angers me the most about this whole bizarre story. She needs to repay those scholarships as far as I’m concerned.

Hi Desertf, your planting is all done? I bet you are enjoying each moment of your long-awaited vacay!

In truth, I’m so far not angry about Rachel’s story. I’m going to wait until all the details of her trickery trickle out and see where I’m at. I don’t do righteous anger well. I too find this such a bizarre story, especially the fact it was sustained over such a long period. I saw 20 years mentioned somewhere, and I don’t get why her parents would wait so long to say something. I also don’t get why her black ‘father’ added his weight to her story – was he paid? Now that the story has broken I’m sure time will reveal its nuances.
